The problem seems to be that the "SampleRes" is not part of the path?!?! why did that disappear..
    it is looking for /Runtime/Textures/PropsChick/AldoraHair/SampleRes/PCAldoraHairtex07_DC.jpg
but the texture is at: /Runtime/Textures/PropsChick/AldoraHair/PCAldoraHairtex07_DC.jpg

I try to use locate but it keeps popping up with a message it cannot find it.

Are you loading a scene file created with the esrlier version of Daz? Then the scene file has stored the old directory (the one you deleted) as root for the runtime.

If the error appears when you start a new scene with these items, i am not sure what te cause is.

yes.. all my files are in the old daz format.

whats even worse is the "data" directory... apparently daz creates a data directory and creates files like .dso
this does not exist anymore after I deleted it... and I can not find it in the recycle bin :(

I save all my created scenes in my own directory so I can always recreated them... but that is usually when daz studio does something so stupid and create dependent files in its own "data" directory which means I can not load my scenes.

I have used 1000 of hours creating my scenes and now they are all useless... i'm really pissed off at daz studio right now.

Well, you deleted these files, instead of the advice to just re-adress the content directory...
Anyway, there's a rather simple way to resolve this, by re-creating your old directory.
Just create the directories C:\Users\Marino\Documents\DAZ 3D
Then, copy (not move!) all the content that is in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library to that directory.
You could also de-install everything using DIM, then re-install to that recreated directory. Actually, that would be the easier way, i.e. regarding further updates.
When that is completed, add this recreated "old" directory to the content directory management, as described in earlier posts.

After that, DAZ will be able to find the files in both directories, and - voila - your files are usable again.

You will have "double entries" in your content directory, though, as you basically will have two content directories.
My suggestion is to completely change the installation of new content to the "old" directory, and empty the "new" directory of content, in any case.

The "data" directory will still be gone?!?! how would it resolve that?

Check your Product Library in your account to see if you have DAZ Studio 3 available, if you do download and install. Once it is installed you can re-build the data folder by loading in all the old content (don't need to pose or texture, do need to inject any morphs) then save as scene. Do this in small steps so you don't overload and crash Studio. There may be one problem with this that will have to be fixed, I think Studio 3 adds a "3" prefix to the "data" folder, but we will deals with that when we come to it.

The data directory is part of that subdirectory.

Here's how the directory looks on my PC. If you check out your own structure , you will find it similar.

Please don't despair, and check my earlier post.

I would really like to thank everybody for helping,.. a special thanks to lee_lhs who went beyond what most people would do.

I am starting to get my stuff back (not all of it yet.. but most of it is coming back now).... it has been hell and daz studio programmers should really to refactor the way they handle files... the "data" directory" is a kind of secret directory storing internal data about your scene make up.
It's isn't enough just to save your scene and run it on another computer... you actually need the "data" directory.

I have also tried to load and save like people suggested to recreate it.. but this just doesn't work.. the scene is empty and you will never see your scene visually.

Windows did a terrible thing to me by not allowing me to get my "My Document" directory restored... it just wasn't in the recycle bin.. I think it has something to do with some of the names in the daz folder are larger then what the system can handle and it permanently deleted it. I found out that I can do a "Previous Version" on the root folder and actually copy the deleted folder from certain timestamps... this worked and works better than a recycle bin because I can actually copy instead of just restoring. So now I have my "data" directory minus 5 files that had file names that were to large. I copied content of my data folder and put it under the new structure for daz 4.6 .... and now my scenes are starting to load... have a little over a 1000 scenes I need to check.

but again thanks to all... I might have been a little bitchy ..... but when you have 1000 of hours of work disappear on you.. I think it's expected :)

    thank you

I'm glad to hear that you were able to recover most of your data in a working fashion!
I can fully understand that feeling of loosing your hard worked for results, I'd be on the fence, too.
I'm sorry that the suggestions you received weren't precise enough to prevent the deletion of the original folder.
Perhaps, you can do a back-up of the folder on an external drive, or USB stick, so tht even if your hard drive gets frired, you will not loose all that precious data! :-)

I use CrashPlan to backup my scenes (and it works great)... I just need to add the Daz directory to that and all should be good.

    thank you
