Gunner
Made this for the It's Raining Men contest, so it's out of my comfort zone both for being a straightforward portrait and for being an attempt to make a man look good.
Good Grief
My initial idea for the current freebie thread hit a snag, and this is the first idea that popped into my head for what to do next. I decided to do a solid color background rather than a proper skydome/backdrop to give it a more comic-strip feel, but I'm not completely convinced that was the right choice.
Playtime's Over
A bit late posting this here, but it was my second entry for It's Raining Men, and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I started a new job a while back that's been eating up a lot of my time, but the flipside is that I could afford to buy a lot of new content, so whenever I end up having the time, energy and inclination to do some rendering, I'll have a lot more to choose from.
Awww, that's so cute!
Oh my goodness. So adorable! Gotta mention it on my thread.
@Gordig You created such a warm, loving image. My thanks for reminding me of wonderful nights putting my son to bed after a busy day.
Mary
Glad you all like it so much. Apparently I've been in a cute mood, because the first chance I got to render something after a couple weeks away from actual Dazzing, this is the first thing that popped out:
Reunited
Different Worlds
Santacles
Filly Talk
Mother-Daughter Time
Love your Toon Dad-and-Son and your Cthulu Santa!
I love your fantasy girls! Especially the gorgon, that tail is on point!
Hey! Look!
Don't forget the air-holes, son!
Opposites Attract
I consider this a draft, up to and very much including the title. I'd like to find a good set to use instead, because I don't particularly like using HDRIs generally, and the ones that I've found definitely aren't meant to be used with the camera so low to the ground, which is why the ground underneath them looks so horrible. I'd also welcome any advice on how to improve the tortoise's appearance, whether someone can point me to a higher resolution texture or just suggest shader settings to make the existing texture look better.
This is my go-to set for tropical island scenes: https://www.sharecg.com/v/75857/related/5/3D-Model/Dream-Small-Tropical-Island
A few very basic things to do, apologies if you know this already:
- Apply Iray Uber shader if you haven't already
- If Glossy Color is without a map, apply the bump map if there is one. Otherwise apply the Base Color map.
- Make sure Base Bump isn't lower than 1.0; if there is no Bump Map, just apply the Base Color map.
- Put Glossy Roughness somewhere around 0.7 - 1.0
Awww, I love it! Note to self: Give the Galapagos Tortoise some screen time. What's the relation ship between a mermaid and a tortoise like? Kind of like a human and a dog?
Thanks for the suggestion, but it's a little low-res/toony for my purposes. In setting up another scene, though, I realized that the Aguja environment has a "low-tide" version with a beach, so I'll give that a shot as well.
Surfacing and shaders are still one of my weaker points, so I welcome any suggestions. A couple weird things I noticed about the tortoise: it doesn't have bump or normal maps, but it DOES have displacement maps. I have a vague understanding of how bump, normal and displacement differ, but not necessarily how best to approach one or the other. Also, the glossy color is pink, which struck me as a pretty strange choice. Anyway, your suggestions did make the tortoise's skin look better, although I think the shell will take some more fiddling. Thank you.
Don't try to put a label on it, maaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

"I'm starting to think this was a terrible idea."
I was thrilled to finally get Collective3D'sneighborhood 1 pack at a good price a few months ago...and then never got around to putting it in a scene. I finally had a chance with this scene, and my computer has been weeping ever since. Even going through and hiding things one by one to see what I could get away with deleting, the set still takes a heavy processor toll. It took a lot of fussing to get the knee pads and skates to get even as right as they look on her now, and there was probably a way I could have done it that was not only easier, but got better results.

Part 2 of a series examining just how heroic this so-called Hero of Time really is.
Mod edit:- to correct language
I've always thought of Link as a brat, actually
Senpai!
This is a pretty experimental render for me. It's a composite of two renders: the first, with senpai as the focus, is strongly backlit with some bloom, along with some aggressive DOF, to really make him pop and appear dream-like; the second focused on Sakura, and when I composited the two, I only used Sakura herself from this second render, and I just realized as I was typing this that I could have just hid everything else in the scene and rendered her all by herself. This is also my first render with Sakura, and the idea for the scene pretty much immediately popped into my head when I loaded her into an empty scene, although senpai's look was not what I would have though it would be. I was originally planning to put her with a group of friends to further emphasize that she was the only anime character in the scene, maybe do a before and after where she was a realistic person before she saw senpai and then went full moe. This was also the first time I used Loretta and Lorenzo, and I probably could have used them for the characters immediately behind senpai, thus sparing my computer the need to render two fully-clothed G8Fs that were DOFed nearly into unrecognizability anyway.
Dog Walking
I fell back into making porn, this time Legend of Zelda themed, so this is the first render I've made in a bit that I could share on the forums. In my first post, I said that I hadn't developed a particular style yet, and I still feel like that's kind of true, although there are certain themes I've noticed in my work. One of them is people being oblivious to something crazy, and that's on full display here. I bought a whole mess of dog related things in today's/yesterday's sale, including the collars and leashes (from Utility Vests) and the Dachshund shape. I also picked up Maxx recently, despite not having the Brute, because the skin is just too damn good not to use. Don't remember what the man's shape is, and I can't check while I'm rendering out a bigger version of this.
Threw this together as a joke for a thread in the product suggestions forum. As it is, it's not worth putting it in my gallery, but I may turn it into something more in the future.
Tyrannosaurus Flaps
Okay, flying T-Rexes are a scary thought. Ooh, and you've gotten Haven Park.
My (first?) entry for this month's freebie challenge.

Look At This Stuff
Believe it or not, I still feel like her expression isn't as manic as I was shooting for. Maybe if I tightened the framing a little bit, dialed in a little bit of some toon or another...anyway, I still have a bit of fiddling with the lighting to get the grain out, because this is damn near unbearable at full resolution.
She's got all the dinglehoppers, now she only needs a snarfblatt.
