You could use a shader with an alpha channel. If the whole domain area is covered by the clothes, say the thigh domain is under pants and poking through, you may be able to apply it just to the thigh domain. If that is not practical, like a breast is poking through a V-neck shirt, you may be able to use the 3D paint tool to paint the offending areas to define where the alpha is applied. If you have to do that, it will probably just be quicker to adjust the mesh. I prefer to adjust the mesh of the clothing, rather than the figure.

Also, 3D paint is a Carrara Pro feature, so if you have Standard that option is closed, unless you upgrade to Pro.

Oh ok, I forgot about 3D paint I had an idea it might work yet not how it would. Thank you

Yes, the high end games have a level of realism that is seriously unbelievable. I've been playing Grand Theft Auto 5 and simply shaking my head at the detail. In real time. Under my control. This is what Arthur C. Clark was talking about: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Of course, the production budget for GTA5 was over $250 million, a little more than I spend. But maybe I should (har), they sold a $billion in three days.

Here is an example of GTA5's realism (yes, some glitches, its a WIP):

I finally got a round tuit, cleaned up most of the glitches:

    EVERYONE!!!!
First of all thank you very much for the insight.
I never asked a question on how I wanted to animated, the only realy issue was if I can use Carrara for my project (this was my only real question)
I was also looking for video's, shorts etc that anyone made in Carrara, just confirm my earlier question.

Zaintc - If you have not already had the pleasure I invite you to take a look at CarraraTors - a community website for Carrarra Animators. It is not only about software but movies and movie making so features several animations made with Carrara and other software.

The site is intended to showcase, exchange ideas, learn about Carrara, inspire and collaborate . It's new, its young and growing.

OK, thanks for the reaction. I’m a little confused by “like the realism” and “no so real”.

I also thought people would find it long (4 minutes), but I felt that shortening it would lose the feel of the “ride”. But now I see I could probably delete a cut or two. (Believe it or not, I did cut out quite a bit from the actual game version of the ride.)

I am sorry, what I meant was the trolly car scene to me was way too long and I never saw one go that far. It didnt seem real to me.

OK, thanks. I gather you felt the *visual* realism was good, but the length made the overall ride unreal.

As I said, I can make a some more cuts, and probably will if I do a video with more scenes from the game.

I do think the game creators were trying to create a "dreamy" kind of ride up a very tall mountain, and in the process show off their "game world" (including the Pacific Ocean coast) from an increasingly lofty perspective - higher than the birds in many of the camera angles. While I was playing the sequence for the first time, it seemed about right to me. But I admit to being a sucker for this kind of realism and unusual camera angles in games. More so than plaing the "missions" ...

None of the four minute video was created in Carrara. It started with someone mentioning as an animation goal the kind of realism in high end games, and was just my example of one game I like. I do think captured game footage can have a place in Carrara animations. One example I mentioned is for use as a console game being played by Carrara characters. Just as background, or possibly as an enhancement to the overall plot, e.g. a (Carrara) kid angry at his father beating up somebody in the console game (GTA5 footage).

And yes, we have discussed the limitations on use of commercial game footage, basically "fan videos" only, nothing commercial or money-making.

I used "Grand Theft Auto 5" running on an Xbox360, with the Elgato "Game Capture HD" device:

    http://www.elgato.com/gaming/game-capture-hd

This device captures the video out from the Xbox to your PC's hard drive (it still also goes to the display connected to the Xbox). You can then use the captured clips in your video editor, along with Carrara animated clips, or whatever.

You of course have control over the game video via the game controls (walking the character around, driving, etc.)

But it is even better with GTA IV, which is available for Windows (GTA5 is not ... yet). It has a built in video capture feature (no external device required), and even better, it captures the animation information, not just the video out. So after the fact, you can change things like camera location and angle, etc., even though you did not use those settings while playing the game. More here:

    http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200144836-Information-about-GTA-IV-s-Video-Editor

Here is a Carrara animation I did using captured game footage from a number of games. The car jump starting ~0:50 is from GTA IV:

Yes, very nice. A good match with the music, and no dialogue!

Reminds me a little of "2001".

My character Adrea animated in Carrara. I have certainly gone back and forth as to how to do this, what program, etc. But I do love working in Carrara and have don't so for years, so I really am working hard to create my animated short episodes of Keepers of Wrath in Carrara.

In efforts for this, here is a little test I did with Adrea working out with a body bag.

Certainly looking for better ways to control her rig. Using target nulls as IK controls on the feet I use (turn on and off as needed), but certainly am looking to make the DAZ character animation (not mocap ) less painful. Still, I like this and hope you do to.

Looks good. This is the first I've heard of "Hitfilm", looks like a competitor of Adobe's "After Effects".

Yes. I used FX Home Visionlab before but picked up Hitfilm since I liked what I saw, the price, and it was much less expensive an after effects. Have not use it a lot yet, but I look forward to using the particle effects.

Very good, pretty convincing for a "toon" type video. I've been planning for a railroad video for a long time, but so far just accumulating 3D elements. A rail trip is an adventure to those of us in auto crazy Houston.

Just going by the product description and images, it almost looks like geometry that has morphs and/or rigging applied to alter the shape. The effects are probably trans-maps applied to this geometry. I'm not sure what would limit it to Studio or Poser, unless there are specialized shader functions, which more than likely are handled differently (although probably just as well) in Carrara.

If I had Studio and an unlimited amount of money, it would be interesting to get some of these products and try and get them to work in Carrara. Better yet, maybe save some dough and make my own based on how I think they work. ;-)

I know I sound like a broken record, I post some special effect animation I did in iclone (I know I am spoiled) I found what I needed and it did what I wanted, I know I really need to give Carrara chance. I have specific work flow and trying to find what I need isn't or shouldn't be a all day week or month thing. I'm not new at this just to Carrara. In time I will be able to create my own stuff either by trial and error or reverse engineering (how I normally figure it out. Hey its only Sunday, right, lol!
