Ask Me Anything...

Ok I have seen a number of "ask me anything" videos on YouTube, people take questions from twitter and facebook and then do a video responding to those questions. I really do not have a following on twitter or FB so I figured I would open it up to you all. Basically my plan is to focus on my artwork, my inspirations etc. and have my art work in the background as I answer your questions. If I get enough good questions I will post a link here to the finished video. So here it is, your chance to ask me anything.

I always said I'd love the chance to walk around in your brain, and now that I can, I can't think of a damn thing. :shut:
I just love your imagination and knack for turning things into something other than what they are originally. I loved watching your "how I did it" posts in FirstBastion's contests. Hell, a vid or two on your process with doing that would be nice.
Do you post your stuff online somewhere these days? Your DA account that I knew about hasn't had anything since that Incidious contest last summer.
I haven't been posting much online anymore. I really would like to get all my stuff in one central location where people can find it. trouble is a good portion of my work violates the TOS of most sites. Unfortunately the only sites that i can post on are usually adult/ porn sites, and while my work some times contains nudity, i really don't think of it as porn. My work is more towards the icky gore and violence side of things.
DA is probably one of the few places where I can post my work... but I just never really cared for their site. Not sure what it is but going there kinda gives me the same feeling i get when I see trypophobia images. When I get some new images done they will probably go up at DA. I have been in a bit of a funk since last October, not really done anything since then and that is really not like me.
Not sure if I will be doing any video tutorials. I don't have a program that does the screen videos like you see in most, and truth be told I am really crap at doing tutorials. Its so much easier to just do this stuff than it is to try to explain how to do it.
I think I am coming out of my funk now and have a few projects in the works. I think a lot of my stuff is probably going to end up on my YouTube channel. I also have a comic book I have had on the back burner since last September. Not sure if or when or where that will be posted.
anything on camera framing other than rule of thirds?
Not really looking to do a tutorial video, and there is so much out there on composition already, a quick web search will bring up a lot. The rule of thirds is not the only method of composing an image certainly, there are many others. But it is the simplest to learn and its very effective. One thing I will say that many 3D artists seem to lack is use of Line. Doing an image is like telling a story graphically. The subject of the image ( figure or object ) is your main character. You want everything else in the image to draw the eye toward your subject. You can use the other figures and objects in the scene like arrows to point toward the subject. In stead of placing objects randomly, place them so they draw the eye to the subject, use line and perspective to create arrows. Say you have an elf in a forest and you place a fallen log on the ground, instead of laying the log cross ways, lay the log so that the line and perspective point toward the elf. Everything in your scene should have a purpose, things are not just there to be there they are there to enhance the subject. If it doesn't enhance the subject then get rid of it. Subconsciously we all know this. When you sit back and look at a piece and it just isn't working somehow but you can't quite see why, usually its because a line is distracting from the subject. Once you know why something doesn't work you find you can quickly fix the problem, or better yet you start to plan your work so that you don't make those mistakes from the start. Another thing is don't be afraid of the dark, so many images in my opinion are just too bright and evenly lit. You can use light and shadow to enhance your subject just like you use line. If the subject is well lit then the further you get from the subject should be darker. The contrast will naturally draw the eye to the light.
hmm. thoughtfuls.
would you be into offering critiques on composition if we post renders here? like, where the lines are screwy and where it would be better?
would be nice for advice from a professional.
not exactly what i had in mind for this thread. If there is some interest in that I might start another thread for that
I was looking at this as more along the lines of "get to know the artist" rather than tutorials and techniques. I'm really terrible at tutorials. But I can do critiques fairly quickly and I try to make them encouraging. I hate critiques that get too negative and discouraging.
I know, right?
Thanks for doing this, LycanthropeX. If I think of any good questions I'll post them...

who said they had to be good? evil questions are welcome, i'm not picky

Sorry, I have to

my own or someone elses?
I can't speak for Misty Whisky, but I'd be interested in hearing both...start with your own, and if you'd like to share any favorite images by other artists, that would be interesting to see too.
How long do you typically spend on a project? And how much of that is postproduction? (Maybe there's no such thing as a "typical" project--in that case, what's the range of time?)
This I got to see... I have one of LX's mini Tut's folks. For learning how to kitbash images into new images HE is the Man to talk too.
not looking to do a tutorial, this is a more "get to know the artist" sort of thing. More like an interview style format
Okay, I'll play ball...
1) What is your stance on realistic renders?
2) Realistically, what is the average time of a render (including all render preparations and postwork?)
3) What is your take on toon\anime renders?

awesome! one of life's greatest mysteries answered, only 12 more to go.
Ok...
... I'm from Brazil ... Everything you say apart from the forum, I need to translate into Portuguese of Brazil, to know what they are saying, thank you google translator by oline ...
the question is:
these two acronyms that appear in the subject of some topics:
ISO, and OT
What did it mean?
thank you
ISO: In Search Of. Used when someone is looking for something.
OT: Off Topic. Generally used when the thread posted has absolutely nothing to do with 3d/art/etc.
what what what? ISO doesn't mean Incredibly Super Orgasm????
Hmmm, so that's it!
as this is not translatable, I always tried to decipher this puzzle, by own account ...
A weary time, I decided to ask
Thanks for the help
what what what? ISO doesn't mean Incredibly Super Orgasm????
LOL
LOL
Here we go again ...
"LOL" is the same as wow?
'lol' is laugh out loud. You do it when something makes you laugh.
'lmao' is laugh my ass off- when something makes you pretty much spit stuff out at your monitor
The internet is full of acronyms and abbreviations.
Oh, this imao! Had also forgotten about him. Good point, I've seen this "imao" in various posts, but never did
Well along with your previous post, I saved it here on my notepad:
ISO, OT, imao and lol (and their meanings)
thank you
And now I know the meaning of these, I'll get to use them too!
One other thing:
In the image below, is a postwork script for poser render.
There somewhere another plugin / script (not the reality), but that gives options postwork, as the post-render vue?
Poser just has basic postwork options. You'll need to take your render into something like PSP, Photoshop, Gimp, etc for anything major.
@Lycan, I know I'm not you, lol.. just figured that since these aren't Lycan specific I'd go ahead and tackle 'em. :P
