@Novica, those pictures take me back to California. Different vegitation, but the fear that type of smoke cloud creates is awful. I hope the winds stay down, rain comes in, and the fire crews are able to get it contained safely.

Getting back to the project. This morning was weird. My clinic called me last night to come in for a pneumonia shot for this morning.

@Fishtales, that is a great job on the bike. I got it as a freebie I think and never used it yet. Need to pull it out one day, especially now that I have seen how great you made it look.

@memcneil70  Thanks for all the work you're doing. Hopefully I'll be back online tomorrow. The fire is now 250 acres and still only 40% contained, but it isn't moving south, just expanding a bit north and to both east and west (which is forested, no subdivisions.)  It did come within half a mile of a subdivision, but forest rangers were on site all night and will be there again tonight. It is creeping up right next to the county landfill, I made one trip this morning but decided I was done. (Six loads yesterday.)

I wonder how the Millennium Baby 3.0 would do with Mesh Grabber to make it more pudgy. I really don't have $60 of DOs that are worth a toot, very slim pickings. A lot of starter bundles, which are repeats when I own the pro bundles. There's also the Cuties for Millenium Baby 3 (yes, one n) by Adam Thwaites over at Rendo which plumps the baby up.

Hi, I was looking for some thecnical help and I just saw, your comment..

In my defence that was one of the first HDRI´s product that I made and didnt make the last post processing steps that I do now, because some people like the photo with the Raw look with the grain to make it more realistic. So at that stage I decided to keep it. Only after the use of them I realised that it would be more convinient not to have that grain. So my lastest HDRI´s dont have that Sky grain. (wich can be removed by bluring it in PS).

But, yes it is a bit too much grain, also in my first´s HDRI´s the Horizon line is not tottaly straight. To be honest I didn´t worry too much because those are things one can fix when doing the post work in Photoshop. Now I am more worried.

When you guys see, serious error´s or anoying stuff you can message me (you can use the contact page at www.whitemagus3dmodels.com), so I know because I dont go to forums that often.

You can also check the quality of the HDRI´s here http://www.whitemagus3dmodels.com/?category=Free  before you buy.

Taoz-Thanks for the feedback.  I've tried a couple of your free ones but they still have a lot of noise or compression (camera?) artifacts.  Are there some better ones?

    -------

This a response to Taoz questions (had to copy paste it was on diferent tread):

The ones from the HDRI beach super pack on foward are a little bit better, that includes the HDRI Tokyo Cityscapes the Green fields, and  on foward.

However in terms of sharpeness and level of detail the ones form DimensionTheory are better I imagine the ones from Bob Callawah Cake One also, that is why they call it UltraHD, mines do not have that much quality in terms of photo definition per say.

What I can say is that in terms of light specially sunlight with hard shadows my HDRI´s mimics reality more closely I put a lot of efort on that, so still I prefer the light producced by my HDRI´s  versus the DimensionTheory also I cannot say that for all DimensionTheory HDRI´s I only tried a few of the base ones. So if you really need a sharp image you sould go for DimensionTheory

In relation to file size more colors and deeper range higher size in the HDRI image, I wish it could go lower (it takes a lot of disk space and we have to store them in a diferent disk and bring them back when necessary) , but there is a considerable diference from a render from an 8K to a render from an 16K HDRI, sometimes it does not matter but other times it makes an huge diference, I made a lot of test with the Twisted Tower promo images, and specially if you have clouds and going for a realist image deep range with loots of colours matters a lot. That is why the ones that you guys say that have noise (which I agree) specialy the first ones some of them are my favorites because the noise brings a lot of colors that is why they are heavier images in size. And I didn´t make that on purpose I just noticed while testing it with the Twisted Towers. So I wont change those ones, still  I might add 8K to those first packs if you all find it necessary.

That is it, hope you find this helpfull.

ps.Also if you need quick responses you have to PM me.

OK, haven't really considered the light effect of the HDRIs in this context, it's also more difficult to evaluate immediately than the look of the environment.  Will take a look at it again and focus on this aspect instead.  Thanks!

Noticed an update for 4.12 in DIM.  Has anyone seen a message about what is in the update?

https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/353851/daz-studio-4-12-pro-general-release-updated#latest (See posts on April 3 and later)

After installing the update DS would just sit indefinitely with the message "preparing scene". I had to update my nVida drive and that solved the problem.

Thank you! I have learned to not just automatically install updates.

Have you noticed the lag when changing your viewport style or switching cameras, as is mentioned in the thread? Experienced any problems with DS not actually shutting down?

@barbult and @L'Adair, Thank you.  I've been using it up intal a few days ago when a news daz version installed and noticed it than as I wanted to try it on the woodsman bathroom. and the option is now gone.

I recommend turning off the Quality setting, (whatever it's called now,) to anyone who asks about render settings. Set Max Time to 0, as well. Then you control the length of the render by setting Max Samples. If you set that too low, it's easy enough to increase the number and hit the Resume button. That's always rendered much the same way as the Architectural Sampler. The new Iray in the later releases of DS does more per sample, too. Each iteration may take longer, (don't know if that's still true with the latest release,) but it takes fewer samples to get a good, clean image.

Thanks for the tips! As a "casual" DS user, I tend to find and configure settings in one way and never look back until there is an indication of a benefit to change them.

This is it for me. Many of these hairs are G8F/G3F, or G3/G8, or G8F/G8M. I am sure that many people use the Content Library, but I have not. But this project, along with recent experience with Shaders are proving to me how valuable knowing the Content Library is and making sure you can get around it.

Thank you Novica for this project. But now, I am going to play with Valentino 8 and his buddies!

@Novica I hope you and your family are safe. I just got a weather update that they are evacuating the area due to a wildfire.

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,895

All horses from the barn evacuated, fire went from 150 to 250 to 400 to 2,000 acres. Homes are burning about eight minutes driving time from the barn. I went to barn 2pm to 6pm and loaded up saddles, bridles, blankets, totes full of brushes, bits, and have easily $25,000 of other people's items in my truck. Just got home, may do a return trip to see if Elaine needs household items loaded up. Roads are blockaided by state troopers, I had to go all the way around, through Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, then over Garcon Point Bridge. North of there is where I normally come through. I've got to eat but while it's cooking I'll get images off my phone to show you. Back in a few. Bottom line- Stetson is safe FOR NOW. There are three fires now, and one is over in Pensacola but not too close yet to where the Equestrian Center is.

Heck Novica! Will you all be okay where you are? What about your mother? I wish I was closer so I could drive my Sienna Van over to help move things for you guys.

Take care and be sure you keep a lane clear out of the area at all times.

Went Garcon Point Road, state troopers turned me around. So picture this, I drove 12 minutes through Bagdad on (North) Garcon Point Road, got turned around by state troopers (and the Interstate 10 exits were closed. I knew that much.) So then 20 minutes back to 90 and through Pace, to Scenic. So now my house/Garcon Point Road is on our left as we look out the window. This first TWO SHOTS are at the Interstate 10 interchange, but no one can go left of course. So that's the first shot, below, looking at Interstate 10 and the fire which is going to be south of it. The barn, as you look at this, is going to be to the right of the picture. We're going to drive all the way around and approach from the other direction

Shot from Scenic, looking back to our left toward Garcon Point area (which is on the right in the photo.)

Now we go through Gulf Breeze and hang a left turn, so we are headed straight toward the fire. This is shot going over the Garcon Point Bridge. (Trust me, I wasn't looking. I clicked off about 60 shots, hoping one of them would be in focus!)    Yeah, this is what I'm driving into.

So we're on Avalon and have now turned on to Garcon Point Road (yeah, went all the way around but we made it!) and this is what we're seeing. Barn is going to be four miles down the road into this.

At the barn, the arena with the smoke from the fire behind it.

Sorry, to interrupt, I tought those were render cloudsI I ddint mean to be insesible bringing another topic breakings your conversation....

Be careful, about 2 years ago there was a fire in Portugal people tryed to ascape and got cought by the fire in the roads (it was roads surrounded by trees, and under havy wind conditions), if they stayed at home they would heve survided.

Plan your strategy well consider all elemnts, hope this help Novica.

Scary! I remember when I worked in the DFW metro in the summer of1996 and the daily temperature there was over 100 degrees for weeks and at that same time forest fires so massive in Central America were burning that the skies in the DFW area were smoke filled too. Hot, Hot Hot! That was also the year Beanie Babies from McDonald's were a big thing! Our lifegard instructor asked us to help her to collect them all. I think we got them all for her but one by the time we graduated from the class.laugh

Fire is 2000 acres, 40% contained, but spreading north toward subdivisions and the county landfill (yep, the one I made 15 trips to last week! Little did I know when I shot the photo of the cloud plume that four days later it would be moving toward the barn.)  Today the winds are 9mph instead of 18mph, NNW and N which is still bad, but gusts are 23mph instead of upper 30's. Fire area appears to be moving north, not south toward the barn. I can't drive the truck as it's absolutely full of stuff (as you saw) and the car had low tire pressure and coolant alert, wouldn't you know it. So I love living in a smaller town (Milton/Pace) as I told Goodyear Tire here in Milton the situation and that I needed to get to the place where we evacuated the horses, and they said "Come on in, we'll get you taken care of right now."  In and out in five minutes!   So gotta finish up some stuff here (boxes for troops with the ClickNShip already dated for today, have to mail!)  then headed out. Will keep you posted.

Thanks so much!    (Elaine texted 1am this morning, power back on, so we knew things were probably improving. They shut off power to protect firefighters, lines for her were NOT down like in other places.)

PS- This is called the Five Mile Swamp Fire if you want to see what the latest updates are. Facebook is here for best info. Barn is SOUTH of Mary Kitchens Road, off of Garcon Point Road. You can see the latest map doesn't take the fire toward Mary Kitchens, and yesterday is was going south of there.

    Thank you @kharma

Found a really cool tool- noaa has a hotspot map. It's not perfect, but it at least shows where the embers / fire is still burning. If you zoom in so you can see Pensacola, go to your right (east) where that big peninsula is. You'll see Avalon Blvd. That road runs parallel to Garcon Point Road, which is where the barn is located.  Mary Kitchens Road which is middle/farther down the peninsula would be really worrisome, as that's only a minute from the barn. So you can see the one hotspot, which is way north of Mary Kitchens Road. By Interstate 10, it's really still burning there, and moving north. It jumped the interstate yesterday morning.

Look at the Mexico fires / hotspots, and Cuba!  Then go up to Canada by North Dakota and Minnesota. Wow.
