Can't say I'm a fan. This thing is much too dangerous. How does it even survive in space? Not to mention breath fire? And the way it withstands those lasers? Come on! That's just... Yeah, I'm out.
Not trying to start an argument, just trying to understand the basis for the previously expressed concerns. Why is making different creature figures so problematic? Is the benefit of being able to turn a horse figure into a dragon that people want to have the option of creating hybrid creatures? Because poses wouldn't really transfer well from one to the other and I wouldn't envision accessories for one being all that useful for the other. I get it with regard to humanoid figures, but unique creatures not so much.
HH, I have almost everything in your store. Haven't had a chance to explore all of it yet, but love your work and am happy to support it. If you ever run out of ideas, maybe you could create a range of prehistoric sea reptiles...
No, the benefit is being able to turn a dragon into other kinds of dragon. The horse to dragon was a hypothetical. I’ve got a fairly extensive library of morphs, textures and so on for Daz Dragon 3, and none of them will work on this new product, because it’s a standalone figure.
Someone should not stop to take pictures!
Used a combonation of poses from the Wyvern Master Pose Control, texture from the HH Wyvern.
I don't have a problem with it being a separate figure....
The main reason for the different iterations of the Tyrannosaurs was to rework the topology. Once you rework the topology you have to start from scratch with everything. One Rex product library isn't very much different than another iteration of rex outside of the saddle.
You cannot alter limitations of using a pre-built mesh and shaping it into something else. I am also still fairly new to the game here (6 years since my first 3D anything), so maybe there's something I'm missing that hasn't been discussed but I do understand the process of creating morphs and adjusting figures. Once you start rebuilding the rigging it breaks all previous poses and wearables. Stretching of the topology will indeed cause ugly and stretched textures along with the lack of geometry identity of detail (due to the lack of polygons in certain areas). You could use a new uv set but then that makes any previous textures unusable. Reconstructing the geometry, by adding/taking away poly's or creating new topology, breaks everything. What type of products were you hoping to use with the Wyvern?
I think the big difference is quality over utility. I have Dragon 3 and I've never been fully satisfied with it. It always struck me more as a cartoon dragon, aside from the relatively recent crystal iteration that brought with it heavier HD detailing. But even with that shape added into the mix, I could dial spin til my fingers bleed and never get anything I am completely happy with. This Wyvern, however...the one word in my mind when I first saw it was this - GIGGITY. There is so much extreme detail work...the textures are so well done that you could do the largest closeup, and still not lose texture fidelity. And I think the price for that level of detail and quality is utility, and I can easily live with that tradeoff. And while folks have used a certain horse as an example of extreme utility, I think it's a rather good example of the tradeoff flipping the other way.
The only gripe I have, and I don't think I'd really even call it a gripe, is that I'd love to see some movement morphs for the flame attachment.
I have quite a few of Hershel's beasties and was quite happy to buy them ;). In a perfect world, we could use one mesh for everything, but it just ain't practical, and even Genesis has its limitations. Sometimes you just have to start from scratch to get what you want I guess :).
Great looking wyvern btw :).

Can the two upward tusks at the mouth be hidden or shrunk? Those are the only things that are playing with my sense of balance about the wyvern. I think some of the time I might want those hidden.
Laurie
There are three morphs supplied which will shrink the tusks to the point where they are almost unnoticable. I will be posting an image within the next hour or so which will show these in action.
Cheers,
Alex.
My two favourite DAZ Studio releases so far this year: Hershel’s Wyvern and Howie Farkes’s Ultrascenery.
I’ve also included a screen capture showing how to shrink the tusks down to size for @allenart and others.
There's a 6K version here: https://www.deviantart.com/efredrules/art/The-First-Law-Of-Thermodynamics-Part-1-837411710
Cheers,
Alex.
Awesome render and I'm glad you're enjoying the Wyvern. The support is much appreciated.
Yes the tusk can be shrunk by quite a bit with the included morphs as Alexhcowley mentioned above. You can also take the limit restrictions off of the included morphs for more drastic changes.
Forgot to post this one here!
"Love Goes On And On"
That is a beautiful one!
Fantastic. Thanks! :)

Thanks from me as well. I didn't think Herschel would have ignored the option, but nice to get confirmation.
Thanks!
I had this picture in mind for years. I was just waiting for the perfect beast.
Thanks to all the PAs involved in this product. You, guys, rock!
Did this last night. I was really suprised it didn't tank my computer when I tried to render at the size I did with 5 in the scene, plus Terradome 3 and Ultrascenery! I did run Scene Optimizer all the beasties have different textures but when I decided to put them flying in the background it made them to dark to see. The one by the water is actually scaled down to be a younger one but to me you can't really tell because "mom" is lying down taking a nap. The DOF was done in postwork. (click for larger)
Ha! Utterly fabulous. You may have achieved Peak Noir Elegant Decadence. (Oxymorons are something of a specialty.)
Yeah, a new interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, I guess.
I love this beasty, and frankly EVERY one you've ever made (I have all 3 TRex). The one thing that bothers me is his eyes don't close. Tongue is difficult to control also. That's nitpicking but I'm very happy with this. I'll be getting some of the add-ons as well.
I missed the Wyvern release sale, but bought most of everything from that particular sale this morning. Herschel (and really everyone involved in this release), that beast is freaking amazing. I've only just played with it a little bit, but wow, this thing is so amazing. Your skills are to be commended.
I love the Wyvern and the accompanying products. Thank you for this wonderful addition to my collection of assets. I just wish I had enough time to create all the scenes with it I have in my mind.
I did manage to create one render already:
This his one said she would get you, lizard!
Here is a gallery link with the products used listed: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/977341
Here's a couple of close up renders of Hershel's latest offspring. Even in 3K, the detail on the textures is astonishing. Check out the 6K versions for something even more awe inspiring.

I used the beastie to composite in to a photo. That was fun!

Veeeery nicely done!
