Granted, the list is always changing as new releases hit the market, my interest with this thread is how all these new Iconic Characters (Gia, Gianni, Olympia, Lilith, Lee, Giselle) are doing overall. I'll agree that for characters like Lilith and Lee, it's still a bit early, but even DAZ announced on the main page that Lilith was a "HUGE success".

So, with that said it seems that the only new character standing-out on that list so far is Olympia.

Needless to say, there was a promotion on Aug 7 where people spending $50 or more got a free Gen 6 character and Olympia was the newest female figure offered. I imagine that may have tilted things just a little. That said, Olympia and Teen Josie are the only alternative Gen 6 figures to get official add-on bundles so far, so I don't doubt she's done well. As for Lilith... well, I bought her, but she had three nice hair items and after all the various promotions her Pro Bundle ended up being just $39.

I think I know which promotion you're talking about. If it's the one I recall, wasn't Giselle and Gianni among the Gen 6 choices as well? In fact, that's when I got Giselle's Pro Bundle.

Either way, I'll give you that sales promotions do help a character sell better (looking at you, Gia), however, it doesn't necessarily guarantee that people will want that shape. There have been plenty of characters I've earned discounts on, only to not buy them for simple lack of interest. People really do seem to like Olympia, though, as she's even used in many promos, and not just in the fashion of displaying supported morph's, either.

Nope, this promo was for a free figure, just the figure, nothing to do with bundles. Put it in the cart, spend $50 and it was yours. Had either Gianni or Giselle been in the selection I would have picked them up, because,,, hey, free! But they weren't so I didn't.
    Ahh, okay.

Still though, Gia is among them. So, why isn't she up there with Olympia then?

Well, first and foremost, because Olympia’s a LOT newer than Gia, so more people were less likely to already have her. Remember, Olympia was introduced in December of 2013, whereas Gia was introduced in July 2013, so Gia’s double Olympia's age. Likewise Girl 6 was introduced in August of 2013, and Teen Josie followed in October (her birthday’s next week). The only newer figure in the assortment was Teen Jayden, who came out in January of this year. He’s a guy, however, and they never sell as well as the girls. On the other hand, Michael and Vickie are still perceived to be the nominal base figures, so they're the ones most newbies will pick up.
Correct, but that's not the point I was insinuating. What I'm pointing out is that, if the free character promotion is what helped Olympia reach the Top Sellers list, then Gia had just as much of a chance of being up there as well. It actually makes it twice as much interesting to see Olympia up there instead of Gia where Gia has in-fact been around longer. But in the end, results just shows that people favored Olympia over Gia.

Er, no. You seem to have missed the fact that the Tops Sellers list isn't an "all time" list, but only a gauge of what's been selling well in the last month or so,. Two basic facts of PLC (Product Life Cycle Management) for non-consumables: 1. the basic sales pattern of most products is heavily front weighted, with a steep sloped growth stage, followed by period of product maturity and then a sloped decline stage. 2. the longer a product has been on the market, the greater the prospective pool of people who want the product has been reduced by the number of people who have already bought the product. So, even if Gia sold twice as well as Olympia, overall, she's also twice as far along in her sales decline slope as Olympia and would be selling less units currently.

I have no idea what the formula is or how exactly the list of top sellers is generated, but I've noticed that freebies and PC items rarely if ever appear, and more expensive things like Pro Bundles and Carrara often do.

Exactly. And regarding the birthday... Is DAZ going to indulge the few ones who do not have Josie with a free copy like they brilliantly did with V6? NOD, NOD, WINK.

...Because new folks want to see a pattern, Top Thirty sounds alluring, they go there and need to be shown the most expensive things if possible, because once they know DAZ, they won't be able to stop.

Nope, you are talking about "[Something] of Fantasy" sale. You could have got their bundles (and Horse 2), but the amount you had to spend was outrageous. Then they figured out smaller requirements giving you a free base DO major shape (one that has been around for a while) work better. Why? Because then, many customers think like that: "I can spend $50 on anything I want and get a shape for free, which would normally cost me $40, so it is like paying $10! And if I make multiple purchases with their own invoices, I will get all these shapes!". So they do and the amount of what they pay grows. But it doesn't mean they won't buy other stuff for the shape, because only the base shape is covered and they will still want those shiny hairdos and so on.

Ehh, I suppose if you put it that way it makes more sense. That, and I don't want to fill up an entire page of nested quotes. So, fine, you win. :P

That's right, I remember now. "Magic of Fantasy" it was. :)
