Hi Paolo, welcome back to DAZ land, LOL. Man I almost died when i logged in and saw Reality on the sale page, then i realized it's not the new DS version, whew!, Been following the development blogs, can't wait for release.

For anyone new to Luxrender, Reality is the way to go. Granted the render times with Luxrender are usually longer than using biased render engines, but the results, if you set your materials up right can be outstanding. I render mainly in Lux, so there are some decent examples of what to expect in my DA gallery.

That's an amazing picture. It looks so real.

Thanks. I used Skies of Reality for the lighting. :-)

Hi. I bought Reality for DS and installed it this morning and I read the manual right up to where it says "Call up Reality" For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do that. Help?

    Greetings,
I...don't mean to be a sour patch, but I bought Reality here back in the day, and I only use it on DAZ Studio, but it's not showing up as purchased for me.

I'm curious if this is going to matter...?

While the before/after's above are really awesome, for a less trained hand (e.g. most folks), it's not always as clear. To wit, Evenings at the Office DS and Evenings at the Office w/Reality.

I've actually had some interesting luck using photoshop (Pixelmator, actually) to blend 3Delight renders with LuxRender renders.

I use Reality and Luxus about as often as each other, depending on how much I want to mess with the materials. If I want to spend a lot of time on the materials, Reality is the way to go, as it gives you amazing amounts of power over them in a dedicated interface. Luxus does a better job 'ab nihilo', but it's possible to go deeper with Reality. (The same LuxRender material capabilities are available in Luxus, but you have to manage the surfaces using DAZ's surface manager, where Reality's materials editor is much more streamlined.)

It's good to see Reality back in the DAZ store, though...

Lots of useful advice in this thread. After perusing some examples, however, am I to understand Reality is all you need? Or that 'Lux' is also needed? They seem to be separate products in the store, but many examples seem to reference them both.

They are both different plug-ins by different developers. They just send your scene to LuxRender. Reality uses a separate screen where you work on the LuxRender materials and Luxus allows you to do that directly in DAZ Studio in the Surfaces pane.

Ah, I get it... So long as one's not necessary in order to use the other. Still not sure whether to get 2.5 or wait for 3, but shall definitely be getting one of them.

Thanks for all the help, so far, everyone. :)

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why you were thanking me when I was commenting on the picture. It took awhile, then it hit me. I'm so SLOW this morning. Going to get more caffeine.

    Hi Morgan.
I would suggest to contact DAZ, I have no access to the customer's orders. I'm sure that they will sort it out.
If you need to re-download Reality or download the latest 2.5 build you can do it via my website:

If the plugin is installed correctly it should be visible from the Render menu. There could be a bug in Studio that prevents that.
To solve it switch your Studio layout to another one and then switch back to the layout that you normally use.

Otherwise you can use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-L for Windows, Cmd-Shift-L for Mac

    Hope this helps.

To be absolutely clear, Reality and Luxus are bridges between DS and LuxRender. They are competing products.

LuxRender is an open-source, physically-based render engine and lighting solution that is required for either plugin to work. It's what both plugins send your scenes to after you've edited your materials.

Depending on which plugin you prefer, your workflow will either be:

    DS > Reality > LuxRender

    or

    DS > Luxus - LuxRender

I'm guessing that both products include LuxRender by default? That you wouldn't have to go to a third-party site and download it in order to use either of them?

    *cough* Well...no.

You can get it here: http://www.luxrender.net/en_GB/download

    It's free, of course.

To minimize the download time, some people upgrade from previous versions, and have LuxRender already installed, Reality does not include LuxRender. Lux can be downloaded from http://luxrender.net and it's free.

The Reality User's Guide includes detailed instructions on how to download and install LuxRender.

    Cheers.

Nice to see you back at DAZ towers, Paolo. When I saw the banner in the store I had to do a double-take to make sure I was looking at the right tab in my browser ...;)

DAZ and I worked for quite some time to make this happen and I'm glad that it could be done. From both sides there is the commitment to do the best to serve the Studio and Poser community and this is a demonstration of the type of synergy possible.

    Cheers

Stupid question; how do I install reality? I know there is no dim files. Also does reality only work for the current Windows user or everyone on the computer? I have two user accounts on my computer at the moment but that is another topic.
Also which luxrender works with reality? Is there a 64 version of Luxrenderer?

I will be a first time reality user soon. Thanks for bringing it back. Will there be upgraded options for the third version when it comes out?

Yes, there will be a special upgrade price. DAZ will handle it directly for all customers who buy Reality from their store.

    Cheers.

The current version is 1.3.1 and there is a 64-bit version. Check the downloads at the LuxRender site. There's another little gotcha, though, you should check your graphics card for OpenCL (NOT!!! OpenGL, this is something else) support, most modern graphics cards should be OK. Using the OpenCL/64-bit version lets you take best advantage of both hardware and software rendering.

    Hello,

For information I installed Reality for DAZ Studio not Poser,
but I think it's almost the same thing for Poser.

Download file from your Product Library (Reality for DAZ Studio 32 or 64bits),
extract archive and launch the installer, set DAZ Studio Path and finish installation.

Copy your Reality Serial (See "My Serial Numbers") and launch DAZ Studio.

You'll have a window to register Reality with Name, Serial, Order & Email.

Be sure to install LuxRender before launching Reality, as it asks for LuxRender path.

LuxRender install files (Windows 32&64bits;) :

When you expand the zipfiles there is an installer program. Launch it and follow the instructions. There should be also a Readme file that describes the installation.

For Lux you need to download the version that matches your system. There is a 64-bit version. Reality will work with LuxRender 1.2 and 1.3.

    Hope this helps.

Has anybody here used both Reality and Luxus? I have Luxus, and am curious if Reality offers any kind of dramatic difference.

I believe you have more control over materials with Luxus. This is one of the changes coming to Reality 3 for DAZ Studio. More options. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me.

Thanks a bunch! That's good to know. :)

Is it possible to download Reality from the Reality site when it is purchased from DAZ?

I just purchased Reality for DAZ Studio from DAZ and downloaded the version for DAZ Studio 4 (Windows 64 bit). However, I also have DAZ Studio 3 installed on my computer and would like to use Reality with it; but that version wasn't in the DAZ downloads. When I tried to download it from the Reality site I get an error that order number and serial number don't match. (I used the DAZ order number 101997353 and the serial number in my DAZ account)

Reality for DS3 is getting phased out, we don't provide anymore except for customers who have purchased it before. There is no more development for it.
If you have that version then you must use the serial number for that version to download it from our site. If you had Reality 1 then you will not be able to download Reality 2 with the serial number for version 1.

    Hope this helps.
