Near completion of this I decided to add some rags to the skeleton. I searched but nothing came up that I felt suitable. I looked through my library and found some Spanish Moss. I added a dForce modifier to it and moved it into position over the skeleton. After a few Simulations and moving the Moss about, scaling it and changing the colour a few times I finally rendered it.

Want to point out One Bedroom Downtown Condo Apartment as the features are really nice (based on the description/promo) Did you know it includes the outside hallway? And yes, the blinds move, but did you know you can change the time on the clock? There's a balcony with a lounge chair included, the kitchen has pots and pans in use, etc. Read the description, the closet doors and other doors work, the faucet handles work, the toilet seat works, etc. Quite a steal (and with four qualifiers from the flash sale, only 8.75! (69% off.)
Can agree that it's a great set - FirstBastion's work usually is.
Has anyone played with Iray Stand Kit? It's in Fast Grab. I know Paper Tiger has the XRay lighting thingie which may do the same thing, also creating those planes to hide the scene. This just looks kinda fun and the price is right.
I have the Iray stand kit and like it a lot. It is a bit more versatile than the Paper Tiger X-ray camera since it has planes that make an enclosed box so you can choose what geometry you want to exclude as opposed to the wedge shaped x-ray camera which does nothing for geometry above or below.
Thanks, good to know! I won't have time to play with it for a bit, but I had bought it anyway :) Wasn't sure how long it had been on sale so snatched it up.
@Novica, I tried your link for the Iray Stand Kit, but kept getting a 'site can't be reached' message. So I went to Fast Grab and didn't find it. Had it show all items, including what I owned, still nothing. But I have it in my Product Library.
Could it have been removed from Fast Grab since you posted and your link won't work now?
I need to make sure I have it reinstalled in all my computers again. So thanks for this.
Oh, that apartment by First Bastion is prime stuff. That is one PA who I made sure to reinstall all products I own during my recovery of my DAZ products. No matter how old, all of it is so useful.
@memcneil70 Nope, it was a bad link on my part, thanks for pointing that out. (Fixed it.) Yep, it's gone from Fast Grab. I got it for $5.09 I pointed it out as soon as I saw it, I didn't get online to the store till about 10pm Central. I've mostly been checking late evening Flash sales but even then, now it's a "Is this something different?" is always asked , along with "Does it do something to make my life easier?" LOL. The Stand Kit qualified for both.
The only downside is that the overall structure is one piece. There are internal rigged walls, the doors work, there are a ton of props and moving parts, but the shell is one piece.

I have a question for anyone who reads this thread: In environment sets, a house for example, would you prefer any props that are used in multiple places to be instances or full duplicates of an object?
Depends on the object. If it is a drinking glass that a character could possibly interact with then object is needed. If it is a picture on the wall that the character looks at then thats ok.
The thought being, if there is a possibility of a character interacting with the object then real object needed other than that instancing is ok.
Hmmm. That's a good point that I had not actually considered. I don't think end tables and table lamps would have too much character interaction. But i will give this more thought. Thanks.

Interaction isn't the only issue, though. For example, instanced end tables seem like they would be fine, but instanced table lamps might be problematic. what if you want one lit, but not the others? With instances, it'll be all or nothing at all.
Also a good point. I'm glad I asked, I've been futzing with this thing for months, and after catching the plague last month, my brain has not been so good on the details anymore. :|
Partly because, I hate taking away autonomy from artists and PA's, i should mention that one can easily find the original a prop is instanced, duplicate it, remove the instances, and have that solo prop in seconds so instances aren't so bad.

My first thought is there are times I might want to use shaders on props, to change the room from 3DL to Iray, or Iray to ??? (whatever is in our future), or just the colors for the seasons or a holiday.
Also sometimes I have removed a prop, as it is in the way or not needed, but another one is okay.
Now, maybe a bookcase of books, where you can change out the books? Different subjects, or mixed with decorations, or messy, ... I have found trying to 'fill' bookcases tedious and a challenge for my poor eyesight now.

I just came from a previous edition of this thread where Novica reviewed various Gen 3 HD characters; I was wondering if someone might point me to anything of that kind for Gen 8 and 8.1? Thanks~

But your best chance to see a specific character review is to use the DAZ Deals Browser Extension and look at links to characters/products in the forums. @Novica and those who post here are very good at linking to products they use and comment on.
Hey there! Yes, it would be tedious going through all my threads, no doubt about it. Several times, we've done a render the characters and I believe I did some sets of ten at a time. Looking at my files, some of the characters I've rendered are: (just have time to attach them, mouse over and you'll see what the character name is.) and not sure what generation these are but I think they're Genesis 8. Here's the A and B's. Anyone else who would like to fill in with other G8/8.1 characters, feel free! (Doesn't have to be new renders, use what you've got)
