    It's raining today, finally... It has been very dry here this summer and foliage is starting to get dangerously dry. Yet each day the moron local weather forecasters are all excited that it didn't rain, yet again. They are gonna love global warming... " Another beautiful day in the upper 100s... Though it may drop down to 150 by tonite... But it's a great day for the beach, as there isn't a cloud in the sky!"...

    We get brush fires here that can be very dangerous because of the amount of flammable Pitch Pine that grows here, a number of years ago I got stuck on a road that got closed down by an active brush fire... I was the third or fourth car from the point where they stopped traffic, and within less than five minutes the fire crossed the road. The woods which were all pitch pine burned like they were soaked in lighter fluid and the flame looked like they were leaping at least two hundred feet in the air. The fire occurred in a small state park which is surrounded by hundreds of homes and some factories... It's a miracle that none of them burned. This occurred about eight miles from my house, but when I got home, cornflake size chunks of "ash" (more like, small wafers of burned wood) were falling from the sky... It was surreal because they would tinkle like chimes as they fell.

    But yeah... Glad for the rain.

    Wow, sounds like a dangerous place to live with those temperatures!

    Kyoto,

    Try this, connect your laptop to a monitor and check all your settings.

    My bet is that after extended periods of open/close, the ribbon that connects your motherboard to the monitor is starting to break down. Not an impossible task to replace, but as was said, it's like working on a watch.

    ...however it would be more random and the display would flicker then.  It stays nice and steady for between ten to fifteen minutes or so after successfully booting up then goes blank.  I also do not even touch it save for the start button as I have a separate mouse and wireless keyboard (original keyboard began flaking out).   Ran a Malwarebytes check and everything is good, nothing to quarantine.  Tried running CCleaner to check the registry and once I started it the display went blank. The second time this happened a warning about parameters popped up but didn't get to see the details before everything disappeared. As this is an older system not sure if it works with the newer "Plug & Play" displays.

    ...and yet more woes.

    Updated to the latest version of FF on the workstation and it will not let me log onto one of the tech sites I frequent (the button to log in is for some unknown reason being blocked even though my AV shows it as a "safe" site so it isn't the AV that's causing it).  So this morning I start up the workstation to see if I can fond more trouble shooting tips for the notebook only to discover all my saved passwords were deleted.   Being dyslexic this is more than a pain in the bum to remember which is why I had FF save passwords in the first place (I will not use a universal one as that is an invite for trouble).  The only place I now have have stored passwords is on the notebook (which is still running and older version of FF as the newer ones bloat in memory until they freeze due to exceeding the 32 bit 2 GB limit).

    Really unhappy with this latest version and their home page seems to offer no help.

    @KK: Definitely complaint-worthy. no

    ...well following another suggestion and running the notebook on main power with the battery removed (the battery pretty much is useless anyway as it won't hold a charge for more than about 10 min). So far so good. Been going for about forty minutes now.  Will be leaving the lid open as well after shutting down just in case it is the contact that's flaking (I don't take it off my desk anymore anyway).  Still wondering why CCleaner (which I uninstalled) immediately triggered the blank out twice when I started it, never had it do so before. Hate to lose such a useful utility.

    Not more than anywhere that gets dry in hot weather, especially not The southwestern states.

    I'm on Long Island... the south shore, more or less western Suffolk... Long Island sort of has two different climates going on... The north shore is more like Connecticut/New England and the south shore more like coastal areas of Southern New Jersey/Delaware/Maryland... As the island tapers off on the East end, its more like Martha's Vineyard. The pitch pines are more prevalent on the south shore, and east end.

    A little east of me is where the Pine Barrens begin... In 1995 there was a pretty big fire that burned for several weeks and scorched 7000 acres of forest, you could actually smell the smoke in NYC.

    EDITED TO ADD... Doh!... I just re-read your comment... Your were joking... Referring to my exaggeration of the weather people discussing global warming temperatures in the future... No it's not that hot here... 80s - 90s... Just very dry lately.

    Home now.  the ice coffee I got from Dunkin donuts was too hot so I brewed some more coffee and put the ice coffee into the slightly cooled off caraf of fresh coffee.  I poured the coffee into two different cups.  Now that coffee is too hot to be iced coffee so it is in the freezer.

    One more hour until leaving time.. will need to decide.. go straight home, or stop and get ribs?  It's all you can eat rib night.. and some other good specials.. but I almost feel more like Mexican food.. it's just too weird. indecision

    *edit* Shoulders sore, feel a bit hissy.. going to cab it to the Mexican place, load up on nachos, and wander home to play games and watch TV.  Solved 3 major issues today that get us past super-critical issues, at least based on lab testing - once it goes out into the field test area, if it works there, I'll feel danged happy and it'll be party time this Friday.  Super Nachoooooooooosa! surprise
