@Dartanbeck and all other subscribers to this list, this thread is one of my favorites, especially when there are new posts listing cool free graphics software available.

I am wondering if it being located under Software | Carrara Discussion is limiting the amount of traffic this great resource of a thread is getting.  At first glance I would probably look for this thread to be located in the General | Freebies or General | Commons sections of the DAZ 3D Forums.

Just wondering what others think about asking to have this thread relocated?  The purpose of the thread relocation would be to get more participation and hopefully being made aware of even more cool Free apps.  Thanks!

I think that, back when HeadWax started this thread, we were all (Carrara members) in need of such a thread in here. It's kinda nice having our Carrara community topics, added to and read by us, the Carrara community.

I do agree that it is a valuable thread to be viewed elsewhere, however. So what about maybe a thread in another forum with a link to this one, rather than moving it? Just trying to add further thought to the thing ;)

Can I jump through the screen and hug you?   This is brilliant. Hope to have my machine back in a week.  I work with height maps all the time...some I have to make from UK OS Survey maps, etc.  But I need to make my own, too... this is brilliant.  I have World Creator which is $149 but I got on sale a while back, but it's like herding cats and you are in make-believe land all the time as it's for games.

    Cheers!!!  heartkiss  Silene

Hi, I'd rather keep the thread here please.

It's all about community, as Dart said - in this case the Carrara community helping other Carrara users.

That said, I'd actively encourage other people to contribute!!!

Just leave it in the Carrara forum please.

    regards from oz

TerreSculptor 2, fully free new version looks very promising!

Here is link to intro video:

Here is link to download page: http://www.demenzunmedia.com/home/terresculptor/

Note: when I installed it on my 4K monitor the UI was super tiny.  Changed the property settings for the desktop shortcut per the attached photo to fix the UI size.

    thanks!

I am not surprised that the Carrara community would want to hang on to this valuable thread, they started it and why not keep it where it started.

I am not sure a link to this thread would work as it would basically be a fixed billboard that would drop off the radar.

Another alternative might be to just start a competing thread for Free Software for use by DS community.

I suppose we could combine the 2 ideas, start a new thread elsewhere and have the first post link to this thread.

    Any other ideas/feedback are welcome.

Okay I think this might be a good compromise, what do you all think?

New Thread Title (under Daz 3D Forums | Freebies): Free Graphics Software

Speaking of Free Software, for any vfx artists and/or movie creators out there, there's a brand new version of HitFilm Express (Express is the Free version - complete, and completely Free!!!) available now!

HitFilm uses a more layered style of building upon our footage for VFX... kind of like a Photoshop for moving pictures - and it does accept image sequences. Express doesn't include particles or the ability to import 3D assets, but those things can be purchased for the free version via add-ons, as well as a whole host of other enhancements that come with the Pro version.

Furthermore, their YouTube channel is an absolute treasure trove of free (and valuable) tutorials, tips and inspirational ideas on using this wonderful software - sometime even including links to free working files for the subject being presented. If you plan on making movies, shorts or moving ads, etc., you owe it to yourself to check it out!

Here's an example of how much they enjoy teaching their craft to their community - just take a quick look (click image below):

    Rise of the Dark Side
Ready to learn the ways of the dark side? Fulfill your destiny with Palpatine-style lightning effects, stomping AT-ST models, titles and all the VFX you need to send Jedi flying.

...and that's just one of the many links on the HitFilm Express page that will launch you into some really great techniques to making animations into quality CG scenes!

Octane Render has a free tier called Prime for these 4 apps: DAZ Studio, Blender, Unreal, Unity. https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/demo/

Just tried the Octane Render plugin, wondering if there is a way to render a Spherical &/or a Stereo Spherical image with this?  Could not find a way to get any spherical image out of Octane plugin.

    Thanks!

Just came across this free 3D app that might help if designing and/or decoarating rooms :

"Sweet Home 3D is a free interior design application
that helps you draw the plan of your house, arrange furniture on it and visit the results in 3D."

Here is link to their homepage: http://www.sweethome3d.com/

Here is link to their free models (obj format): http://www.sweethome3d.com/freeModels.jsp

I was interested in this app because it suppose to support WebGL export via a plug-in but I couldn't get it to work for me.

It has been possible for a couple if years, something from the docs: https://docs.otoy.com/StandaloneH_STA/StandaloneManual.htm#StandaloneSTA/SettingUpScenesForVRHeadsets.htm#Figure_Normal_Panoramic_Camera Stereo Photo Maker, an old freebie that is still being updated: https://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/ More free stereo 3D apps, old and new: https://stereo.jpn.org/eng/

    Thanks for this.

Both Windows and Mac versions available. yeslaugh

Had a brief play with it (Mac version). Looks useful. Has an obj export option. Imports into Carrara nicely.

It looks really cool. There's a mention of it much earlier in this thread, but it's difinitely worth repeating again! ;)

    Hexagon

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 38,227

    Hexagon

I think mesh wrapping is like shrink wrapping or something

    AFAIK Hexagon cannot do it

I can do it in Zbrush using Zprojection but of course that's far from free devil

Blender certainly has a shrinkwrap modifier but the results like Zbrush vary, you need the general shape to be sculpted pretty close to the target.

this time I wanna share a shot made with 3delight in D/S, just because the 3d scene made by HF has been rendered in less than 10 minutes, whereas a similar scene in carrara took more than an hour. In such cases D/S and 3delight make life a way too easier
