  • Hey!! KA1, I like that.  Very dramatic and I love the camera angle.  I'm not sure there is anything I could tell you to improve on it.  I like it as is and don't see anything I would change or try to improve.

    Thank you knittingmommy! It's the most subtle use of AtmoCam I've tried to date, I originally didn't have the books etc which I think added to it and despite using a whole 3 x G3F figures it managed to fit into my 2gig graphics card and GPU render in around 10hours! I was really pleased with how well http://www.daz3d.com/interiors-corridors worked with some creative iRay shadering (is that a word!!) as well - I think this will be my second entry :)

    Just saw your "Willow Witch" on the entry thread as well, absolutely love it, could imagine a full manga/anime with the character and her cat, not sure how I missed the WIP part on this thread though!!

    I kind of snuck her in while I was taking a break from my vampire render.  I love how she turned out.  Both of these renders made me step out of my comfort zone and learn a few new tricks so I feel as if I've already won.  While it would be nice if one of them did win, I don't need to them to win the contest to feel proud of what I've managed to do.  Besides, there is at least one render in the contest that I think should win and it isn't either of mine so we'll see what happens.

    I'm a bit late getting started on this month's render, but I still thought I'd like to give it a try.

    I wish I knew how to do a fog layer close to the ground to give it a bit more "atmosphere".  Also, my renders always seem to be too dark once I post them.  We'll see how this one turns out.

    Suggestions for improvement welcome.

    You might want to add some lighting to enhance those features that you want highlighted like the dragon.  I'm becoming an expert at fog!! Here are some tips.  If you have a copy of Jepe's steam special effect set, you can use that in either Iray or 3Delight.  Check out my Vampire in London render.  All of the fog was made with that set.  If you don't have that, you can basically do the same thing by putting a .png on a plane primitive.  It might take some fiddling to get it to work well under Iray, but worth the effort.  If you are good in Photoshop or Gimp there are a lot of smoke and fog brushes for free around.  Make your own fog transperancies and export as a .png then put the final .png on a plane.  The atmospheric cameras are good, too, if you already have them.  Check any of your environment sets that look like they have fog in the renders.  Some of these actually have a fog camera for you and you can use that in your current render.  Just find the camera under the product and load it in.  It is easier to do fog in 3Delight, but it can be done in Iray.  I'm sure others here can give you even more tips, too.  These are just the ones I can think of right off the top of my head so late at night.  You have two things I love in your render. btw, purple and a dragon.  laugh

    There doesn't appear to be any emotion in any of their faces - are they happy? Laughing? Sad? Having fun? Expressions on each of their faces could really breath some life into the picture - thats just an observation from another newbie though :)

    okies I went back and pretty much changed everything about this render and also added expressions on 2 of them could not find any freebie expressions for The Kid.

     

    I think the expressions are a defiite improvement.  I also like the new outfits and hair.  I'm not so sure I like how cloudy the render is now.  What did you do to make it foggy like that?  As someone who has actually been someplace where it snowed in the summer before, I think you could get rid of the foggy layer and stick with just the snow as it was in the original render.  Just my two cents.  As for K4 expressions, you might find something helpful in these freebies which have expressions as well as poses for the kids:

    Expressions for any of the Generation 4 models can be used by all Generation 4 models. So V4 expressions can be used by K4. K4 expressions can be used on A4, M4, or F4 and so on. This is also true for the other DAZ generations, 2 and 3. Poses and expressions can be interchanged.

    Very nice!

    I like the street effects outside the window.  As I consider how I would do effects like this, I wonder about that glow around the streetlights.  Would they appear inside the room, or end at the edge of the window?  Or are they perhaps lens flares caught in the camera lens? 

    And the glow from the lightning ball in her hand.  It's got a purple glint to it.  Would that light up things in the room the same color?  The glow on the model seems like natural lighting.  (Well...not natural lighting, but normal colored artificial white light.)

    Still a great effect!  Nice work!

    Thank you, I wrestled with the same questions while working on this. I stuck with the bloom however since I decided it was an effect of the camera rather than the actual light itself. Maybe more feedback with change my mind.

  • I was interrupted by our annual Halloween party....back to our regularly scheduled DAZ program (pun intended).

    I changed the main female figure and added a second female figure who appears to be the cause of the trouble in the first place.   The horse was adjusted to better see his head and I added some stuff on the porch.  

    Thoughts?  Oh - and in case I forget to say it - thanks to all who've offered suggestions.

    This has developed very nice and ther are only to little details I noticed. For one the box on the left side is floating right now, the shadows go right underneath. The other thing that might be changes is the bent in the horses neck, it bends at the wromg places. I'm not shure about the bones on the horseneck and if you could change it accordingly, but here is an example of a horse nibbling its leg

    I really like this version of the render.  I love the saloon girl peeking out from the door.  I agree with the horse's neck looking to be bent wrong. If limits are set to on, then I think whoever rigged the horse allow that section of the neck to bend in a way that a horse doesn't usually.  It does look a little off. Linwelly put up a great reference because it almost looks exactly like the pose you are trying to achieve.  One thing I noticed which I didn't before, is that your cowboy looks a liitle too happy for someone getting chewed out.  But, that could be part of the story you want.  Just putting it out there.  Maybe he is happy.  It is looking good, though.

    A great motto.  Gotta love Navy Seals.  However, you might consider this one, "No plan survives first contact with the enemy."  It means that training and being prepared to adapt is an important strategy to your survival.

    hmm...well, if you want more input...

    It seems that the bloom is caused by the fog around the streetlight.  If that's the case, then it wouldn't be in the room.  If it's a lens flare, it might well be in the room, but then it wouldn't look like fog bloom.  It would have possibly several elements, etc.

    It's your call of course, but personally, I like the fog bloom effect better.  It's more in keeping with the 'atmosphere' theme of the monthly contest. Besides that, it caught my eye immediately!

    (Thinking how I might implement something like that...)

    I have a pretty good idea how I could do the fog effect using photoshop brushes, etc, but I was thinking I might like to try using atmospheric cameras first.  I have AoA's cameras, and I think, a couple of others.  I'm just not sure how to do the fog effect in the lower third of the scene just above ground level.  Not sure that's even possible, but thought I would check in and ask...

    Holy Cow, has this image come a long way from the 1st couple of concept renders!  Looks great!!

    I tried a bit of post work in Photoshop to add fog.  Looks ok, I guess, but it seems to lack depth.

    Perhaps it's the fire breathing dragon influencing me but the first impression I am getting is smoke from a fire, not fog.

    Yeah...I thought about adding flat ground fog.  Maybe I'll try that next.  This is supposed to be rising, swirling mist.

    I kind of threw this one together, inspired by that free PC+ building that came out today. I had a lot of trouble with the Moroccan Dream outfit, so that took a big chunk of the time I had to work on it, so overall the picture is a little sparse. I added in the smoke in post, otherwise the haze is from AtmosCam. Any critique is welcome but I doubt I'll have time to do much with it.

    Glad to read that you like it Knittingmommy, and thanks for the idea for a title.  I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but it's a better fit for what's happening in the scene.  Now if I can just think of something for my first WIP. Maybe I can use the Navy Seals motto like I was thinking for my second, I mean, he's probable thinking that right now.

    @ KA1 - wow, very dramatic scene, like knitting pointed out great use of camera angle

    @ dHandle - the colors in the dragon image are great, with the contrast between the flame and the sky. If you feel it lacks depth maybe make the dragon larger? You could put it in the foreground then do some Depth of Field

    @ shadowcry39 - it sure has come along, more vibrant and expressive.

    Hey, Joe.  My first thought was that it is SO yellow.  Is that intentional.  Is that from the lighting or from the AtmoCam?  I wonder if toning down the brightness might help.  I like the overall posing of your characters.  I love the old man!!!  I hope you have time to finish it.  It looks promising.

    Yes, what you say Knittingmommy, this is a bit too much yellow or lets say the yellow is to equally everywhere, I guess its to represent a sundown? There would be slight altereations in the colour. And, your smoke turns out to be green in this "filter" (a least that's what I think the AoA atmos effectts fog cam works like, I just got it myself and still struggle through some parts)

    To make a short story long, I started on a project for this early in the month but I never got far and since then I've kept being distracted by other things and I've kind of almost forgot about it, even though I've been follwing this thread. As the month is coming to an end I realized I would never be able to finish that project so I went and put my muse Atsuko in the viewport and from there the following evolved.

    Now, I'm not sure this qualifies for this month's theme of "Atmosphere" or if I should just file it away as "just-another-model-in-bikini-render"? So that is my first question.

    My second question is of course if anyone has any comments or suggestions about it? But I'm not sure I'll have any time to work much more on it. At least not in what time is left of the month.
