Thank xyero. Nope, they're pretty much that dark out of daz, the only post work i did was add a bit of bloom and flare. It's all lit with the provided lighting too, i didn't use any sneaky light planes behind the camera or out of shot. In two of the shots i added a directional light for the sun lighting, but otherwise it's all emissive surfaces. I did have to bake them a bit longer than usual though - i normally only let them cook for around 7-10 minutes, but in this case they had to go for around 14-17 minutes a peice. In the bigger shots you can still spot some grain if you zoom in, but not an offensive amount.
It is not. Many owners will turn a blind eye to non-commercial fan art -- it is free publicity and tends to spur interest in the franchise -- but they could certainly go after it if they chose to do so, and some will do so quite aggressively. It's a balancing act, because not protecting their IP can cause problems for them if they do need to go after a violation, so it's usually something they might pretend not to notice, but it's rare for them to actually declare it to be okay.
Christmas sounds nice.
That's true. Issue 195 from June 2015 of "3D World" included a nice tutorial by Nick Gaul modelling Game of Throne's Natalie Dormer. From their blog you can download his resorces and asset files. Awesome work.
In this special case it's funny that only the Willis look-alike had to be ceased. Either Gibson, Reno, Hayek, Snipes, Smith and all the others doesn't know they got digitalized, or they simply give a sh...eepshift.
Oww, and actually, the his is really a her. I just discovered Odnajdy's bio on Rendo. Ashes on my head.
Copyright is a delicate terrain. When Lucasfilm was still owned by George Lucas, the company was known for filing a C&D here and there, mostly for Computer Game Mods, I never heard though they've gone against fan-filmers.
CBS moved against a fan-film production in 2012, and several others last year ("Axanar") and this year ("Horizon"). Star Trek: Renegades upcoming episode "Requiem", starring famous ST actors like Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo and Gary Graham, will have all Star Trek references removed for not getting in conflict with CBS's new guidelines.
In 1996 they even sent a wave of C&D's to webmasters of Star Trek fan sites that contained copyrighted film clips, sounds, insignia, or other copyrighted material. This June they released a set of somewhat restrictive guidelines for Fan Film productions. If you read at the bottom it could be still a least a Damokles Dagger. (Doh, what good story can be told in 2 x 15 minutes maximum?).
You can still create a Parody though, which would fall under the "Fair Use" legal doctrine. STAR DRECK... (Google-translate German -> English).
The "good" thing about copyright (for books) is that it (currently) expires after "life of the author plus 70 years" (US and EU, in some other countries less, in some others more). So in Christian Alvart's (Pandorum) case, he'd really have to hurry with his Captain Future copyright (obtained in 2010): Hamilton died 1977, so his entire works will enter the Canadian Public Domain (and all the other "Life + 50 years" countries) in about 11 3/4 years, on January 1st, 2028. If he continues to dawdle like he currently does he could end up having thrown all his money just outta the window...
So long as it's not created for profit, fan-art is typically considered as allowable. It's only ever an issue if the property owner thinks they're missing out on some sort of revenue generation.
They typically understand they'd be risking backlash from the same people who buy their stuff, if they just went out stomping on everything.
There's also a more difficult legal issue where if they let an image/whatever get used a lot by casual fans and then a suit comes out where they try to stop a specific use of their IP, the fact they have been letting people use the IP casually undermines their case.
So in that case a lot of people will stamp out more visible examples of fan use to avoid future problems.

how come I only found this now...
Because you're behind the times welly! I've broken a lot of my projects into different threads now though because i knew they would probably require ongoing support. I'm all over the place though welly, you'll find me :)
I'll be glad when I get a new PC with a video card that can do such complex pictures. Those look good.
Ah, you got me I'm just a sleepyhead stepping half blind through the threads, gotta bump into you eventually
I feel your pain brother. But hey, i spent my first 6-7 months as a PA with a 970, and it served me well. The new 10 series is looking great too - The 6gb 1060 is pretty cheap and has almost double the Vram of the 970. There's options out there and it's only getting better with each generation.
You sure will! I'm out there .. skulking in the shadows
Hi! I hope you can also make HD characters? Like fantasy characters and beasts? With HD skin for each of the characters for Genesis 3? And if the character or the beast has fur can you make it have real fur or hairs? There's nothing like these yet for Genesis 3 :)
I could, but there are far superior character artists on the store, especially for fantasy characters. Rawn, Josh Crocket or even JoeQuick spring to mind. It will be somethingi eventually try my hand at, but only when i've cleared my back-log. Thanks for dropping by Mystery :)
Hi again! I hope you can also make displacement maps for Genesis 3 males and other creatures that are being sold here :) I think it'll sell especially since no one has ever sold these yet only for Genesis 3 females :)
