Murt's Place [Released]

  • Purchased this morning, but haven't had a chance to play with it other than loading and looking at it (too many long renders burning today). But again, it's a great looking set. It seemed pretty easy on my system too. Loaded quick.
  • Got it as well, it looks very much like a few places around here.

The 2nd zip needs repacking, it has been reported.

  • Yeah all the missing texture files is a bummer, hopefully that'll get fixed soon

Thanks for putting me in the know on that. BB

Thought someone should add the link: Murt's Place

Oh right, I probably should have done that. Thank you!

  • Yay, working:)
  • I've started with a simple scene, to get the hang of the HIREZ and LOREZ. Should this set ever need to be updated, it would be great if the main scene group could have a label stating which res it is, e.g. Murt's Place HIREZ.

For this scene I swapped out the LOREZ parts which are close to the camera e.g. the 2 walls, posters, jukebox, floor, conduit, candles, furniture for HIREZ. I also hid groups which are not visible in the viewport. After 80 mins it rendered 12%, so I need to investigate how to speed it up.

I'm by no means a rendering expert, but I have noticed that when an environment is completely walled off and sealed like this one is, that removing something like a wall, a door, or a window that's not in the scene really decreases render times.  And I've also found that adding point lights into a scene slows rendering down too, so now I either give them size and shape using photometrics, or I use mesh lights.

Hmmm, another update in the Install Manager this morning.

Yes. The update yesterday listed 2 x Murt's Place zips, today's update corrects the zip naming as it was with the initial release: Murt's Place (1 of 2) and  Murt's Place (2 of 2)

...saw this and immediately fell in love with it,  The atmosphere is perfect for a small city pub.

My one question though, in the list of items and props it mentions beer taps, but I m unable to find them in any of the promos. .

Hello, and thank you! The beer taps are attached to the tap tree behind the bar, and you're 100% right, I completely neglected to show them in the promos. I also didn't show the lounge in the promos, but there is one. Don't know why, I think I was a little coffee deprived the day I was finishing the promos. cheeky  However, if you look in the examples I posted in this thread, you'll see the tap tree and beer taps in the 8th shot. Here's a direct link: 2c0cb7292eb4a3b6334139f46863c4.png (1462×873)

The taps are rigged, and you can pull the handles.

This promo shows a picture on the Flat Screen Television. Do you know what the image resolution is, so I can add an image?

How did you add the image ... in the Screen surface channel?

    This is a quixk test.

The image added 1600*1067 which I evaluated should fit.

Added to base color and emission.

The white has gotten a little burned, so would need some adjustments, but you get the idea, and I am on my way to bed.

Hey beautiful people! A discussion on Instagram has led me back here to share this info: In my quest to make the props in Murt's place as useful and heroic as possible, I put a rather large (8k) texture in the bump map channel of the felt surface of the full resolution pool table. It's been pointed out to me that unless you're making a scene where a mouse is pushing a billiard ball or something (and you're zoomed in close), that this is needlessly memory hogging. I agree, so if you're making a scene with the full resolution pool table in it, you can save yourself a large chunk of texture memory by removing the bump map image for the felt texture. The low resolution pool table doesn't use this texture map, so it's not an issue. Make sure of course to run your script after you've removed the map, or just save your scene and then close and reopen it.

    Happy rendering!

Saw this thread pop back up in the forums so I thought I'd add mine :D I snapped it up as soon as I saw it in the store and used it in a recent promo image I did. :D I love this set so much.

I absolutely love this render. The camera angle, the lighting, the expressions on their faces, the posing. Just really great.
