Played around with filatoon for a bit tonight. These are the results of my fiddling.

Great images, so much to experiment with FilaToon.

  • Wanted to experiment with using FilaToon on another classic Poser figure, NearMe. Was originally gonna be a simple, cutesy render, but recent events inspired me to take it in a different direction.

No matter how frightening everything is, we need to keep moving forward.

  • TheNathanParable That's a very sweet render. heart

I love how you can tame scenery that would make your computer wanna jump off a cliff if you tried to render them in Iray.

Oh that is just adorable! Lovely scene! :D I'm so jelly that you have NearMe! I've been wanting her for years and she's just been gone, poof. So sad that she can't be found now.

  • Not sure which thread is best for posting experiments. I thought maybe I should bombard the Q&A thread less and just come on over here... smiley

This was a fun approach I wanted to try today. If I applied the same line drawing coloring to the girl and the doggie, this can be used to make some fun coloring pages too. The frame is just a quick mock-up that I loaded up to a plane linked to the camera. I'm really loving how simple and flexible it is to use FilaToon for all kinds of styles - the possibilities seem endless. smiley

@SapphireBlue Wow! That turned out really neat! And I agree, I could see FilaToon being used to create coloring pages. It's amazing how many different styles it can do, and I think we're only scratching the surface on what it can do!

I love that filament allows for emisive materials.

Great examples of what Filament / FilaToon can make with the renders.

@vrba79 Whoa, that is really creepy and cool! I could imagine that style in a horror comic! Nice!

  • There is still a lot I don't understand about FilaToon, but I am happy with how fast it renders.
On DazStudio, rendering movies with 3Delight was difficult in terms of work time.

Fantastic stuff! How did you do the sparks coming out of the wheel?

If you wear a titanium toe slider on your riding boot and rub it on the ground, it sparks.
Previously riders would rub their knees, then their toes, then their elbows.

Just kidding, I used the "SC20HIB SPARK V01 C01", which was in the "SC20 Hibernation Chamber".

I am so thrilled with all the renders! Please keep them coming. They're putting a big smile on my face and I know I'm not the only one!
  • This image has gone through a few iterations.

Another experiment with using FilaToon on an older Poser figure, this time Himeko by BillyT!

As much as I love how this model looks, her facial morphs are a bit difficult to use. I had to render this in two passes, one for each eye, due to the winking and eye movement morphs clashing.

I'm very proud of the lighting in this one.

    SapphireBlue,

I think the appeal of NPR lies in the simplicity of the illustration elements. There aren't too many details to distract the eye. It invites the viewer to follow the underlying message, whether its a single theme or a larger illustration story that's unfolding.

I do think the NPR thread at the Art Studio forum would be a natural home for showcasing Daz Filatoons. But just the same, I'm happy that folks have a common space for enjoying each other's work.

    Cheers!

Oh definitely! I love this thread. I use an older version of DS so I cannot play around with Filatoon (not that I probably would anyway), but these renders are really cool. Great stuff to see here.

  • Loving all the renders and Space Jingoroh's great animation sequence!

Thanks 3Diva! Yes, I feel like we're only scratching the surface too, and that's already tiring work! Hahaha wink

vrba79 That came out great, really does that have that horror comic vibe!

csaa There's definitely a simplicity we all appreciate in many NPR styles, but sometimes it gets tricky. Some NPR styles can be so counter-reality, or really lush and dense, and suddenly it's much more overwhelming and complex to process than realistic stuff. And some realistic stuff can be so sparse and stripped down as to become very simple. I feel there's always something different to experience with each chosen style and presentation, which is what makes it all so interesting and exciting!
We'll probably start seeing more in the NPR thread once we all get our heads around how this works. These two threads here in the Commons have offered a lot of help and insight as we started down the FilaToon road. Right now everyday seems to bring new discoveries. Totally agree though, it's indeed very nice that there is a space to view everyone's work and share and learn together! smiley

I enjoyed and got inspired by RawArt's stylistic take. That led to thinking about bridging 3D and 2D with a more old-fashioned sorta vibe? for my next FilaToon experiment. This one's got RawArt's BlutStone, who seems to look great in both Iray and FilaToon! This is again a direct render - as I'm just enjoying seeing what FilaToon can generate all by itself, without me having to postwork stuff.

The semi-realistic look is interesting. I like that people are exploring different styles and thinking outside the box! :D The exploration and experimentation is a lot of fun, IMO!

Star was my first 3D purchase (I believe she might have been at Rendo at the time, but I can't remember for sure). She's still one of my favorite figures and I think she looks great with Filatoon. (This has minor Photoshop tweaks for color and contrast).

That's a great character and render! I really like the forced perspective.

  • I had started to do a Himeko render, but wasn't feeling it. Instead I decided to create a fun Chibi-Bel render.

  • 3Diva Star looks great in Filatoon! I really like your softer outlines and shadows, and lovely hair shading.

    necroscension That's super cute!!

A comic style render of the Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft. Legend outfit converted by Shinteo, Leah character by PedroFurtado. The LUT texture used for the shading is the same one I used in my recent Tifa render. https://www.daz3d.com/gallery#gallery=all&sort=newest&page=1&image=1353778

Love this! With a background could be a comic book cover.

Adorable! Chibi-Bel looks great with FilaToon!

New figures, old figures. Filatoon seems to work well with just about everything!
