Well, I installed the DS 4.21 to my C/ drive after renaming my D/ installation and THAT crashed to the desktop. I don't know.
Before it crashed I got a breif window showing some type of options and check boxes checked off. Then it closed. Can't get that back. Now it just will not initialize.
So you uninstalled the D: version, chnaged the path for 64 bit applications in DIM, and reinstalled?
One option is to clear (most) settings - go to
%appdata%/daz 3d/
and rename the studio4 folder to studio4old, then try launching again.
Thanks Richard.
To answer your question, yes.
Since installing and uninstalling two different versions of DS numerous times didn't work I did a Google on my issue and found someone who had a similar issue a couple of years ago and they shared what they had to do to fix it.
They basically they had to not only remove all DAZ Studio app files after uninstalling DS but had to remove references to DAZ in the registry as well - which I did. I even uninstalled the DIM. I don't know if that's going to cause a problem with the new DIM knowing what content I have and have not installed but I am hoping I will be able set some setting when I reinstall it so it sees what content I have installed.
I still want to have DS on my C/ and my content on my D/ drive so I need to figure how be sure I have the settings in the DIM right for that.
Richard, can point me to a source for this information? If not, I am guessing I'll find it after searching long enough on the internet.
Thanks again.
In DIM the application path needs to point to the C:/Program Files/ folder as appropriate for the bit architecture (Program Files for 64 bit, Program Files (x86) for 32 bit) and the Content Base Path to the location you want to use on the D: drive. Essentially you just need to change the drive letter for the application locations from your DIM path screenshot on the previous page.
I really wouldn't recommend zapping Registry settings - that can quite easily create issues. However, almost all of DIM's settings are in a .ini file in the AppData folder, so those should be pretty much intact. Daz Studio does keep more of itss eting in the Registry, so if you can get it to start you will have some work to do there.
So, I wiped all references to DS from my laptop (as far as I could tell from my research) and managed to setup DS all new. Now it finally loaded but I get an error message I actually had time to take a screen shot of. See the attached.
In regard to the above, I put DAZ Studio and the DIM into the exception folder in Trend Micro's Exceptions List but I still get the above window when opening DS. What else should I add to the Exceptions List?
Make sure you had postgreSQL cms installed in DIM and the configuration in CMS Settings is correct.
Thanks Crosswind but that's all Greek to me.
1stly check the below screenshot 1. If it is not installed, download it under Ready to Download tab, install it.
Then go to DS: Edit > Preferences, under CMS Settings tab, check screenshot 2. Cluster folder should be : %appdata%\DAZ 3D\cms Browse to configure the path. Make sure Port is set to 17237. Then press Start button. You can make cms started if everything is fine. Then relaunch DS, the warning message should be gone.
Crosswind, thanks for sticking with me here.
As to your first attachment - YES.. I had what you show PLUS another reference to a Postgre SQL. See the attached.
In my searches for a solution to tis I came across a post from a couple years ago where someone was having a problem very similar to what I am having now and Richard mentioned there that you should have only one Postgre SQL so I uninstalled the one shown in the attached hoping that would fix things but it didn't.
As for your second screen shot. I do not know because DAZ crashes to the desktop again now. It opens and starts it's thing where it is searching for something - that yellow progressive bar at the bottom of the interface - and after a minute it crashes.
Sorry for any typos I miss. My eyes are going. Just had cataract surgery on my left one yesterday.
Ah, I don't think you should need that postgresql cms for valentina conversion. Yea, it's right that you uninstalled it.
So you DS still crashed ? Gosh ~ If so, I don't think the root cause is really DS per se... What's your Nvidia driver version ?
And while that yellow bar was progressin, you couldn't do anything with DS ? DS windows was not responsive ? For intance, if you press F2, will it show you Preferences dialogue ?
Take it easy and take some rest first !!
That is a tool for converting the old Valentina database used initially in DS to PostgreSQL - It has been an age (or at least a decade) since Valentina was the default, and not much less since it was even an option. However, it won't do any harm - "installing" it runs the conversion process, and since you son't have a Valentina database nothing would happen.
When I hit F2 the preferences window opened and DS instantly crashed.
Richard, apparently the Valentina has some connection to the Libre free office sweet. See the the attached.
Sorry. Wrong attachment.
Crosswind, my NVIDA driver is the latest for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M. Can't find the specific number.
Crosswinds, I uninstalled the Libre Suite and restarted and DS is presently functioning. I hit F2 and took a quick screen shot of the CMS Settings. See the attached.
I have had the Libre Suite on my PC for so long I forgot I even had it. So, I doubt that was what iscausing my problems. But DS is working for the moment.
PostgreSQL is a common database engine, it is used by a variety of tools - presumably it is or can be used by LibreOfice Base, the databse component (and perhaps Calc and others too) - I doubt it is greatly relevant to your issus, though, as I have Libre office installed here.
Ah, that's great ! I'm happy you've had it solved !!!
I don't use Libre Office but MS Office 365. but out of curiosity, I installed Libre and found no issue with DS. I'm afraid the culprit might be postgreSQL or sth. else...
DS is still unstable. It was running up until I changed the directory of my content library and then it crashed causing my system to reboot.
I am going through my Add/Remove programs and found a bunch of C++ installations. I know I see that installed when the DIM is installed and updated. See attached.
Will all these installed at once cause a problem?
Should I get rid of some?
No you don't need to uninstall them. By the way, how many RAM do you have with this PC?
Hello Crosswind. I have attached an image with the specs of my system.
My content libray is on the D drive. Question: Could the amount of free space on that drive be affecting the functionality od DAZ Studio?
Yea, it could but not in your case. There're enough free space on your C / D drives for DS to run. And your PC spec. seems good to me...
But could you check the settings of virtual memory in your Windows 10 ? I'm not sure if it'll help with fixing crash issue after adding more virtual memory... In quite a few cases of other folks, it helped.
Here is what I found on the Virtual Memory specs.
Would you like to try changing it and tweaking it higher, like double it ? Then see if that helps ?
I would. The research I did indicated that it is not recommended it be increased by more than 3 x the physical memory..
How high is it safe for me to set it to?
Here is what I see:
BTW ... DS is back to instantly crashing back to the desktop when I try to open it. It opens and crashes.
