Santa hat Shaping issue

Hello Crosswind or anyone else.

I have bought this item "dForce HnC24 Santa Costume Outfits for Genesis 9" https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-hnc24-santa-costume-outfits-for-genesis-9

My problem is the hat shaping simillar to the promo picture.

Any ideas how to do that?

It happens there are no sliders for Shaping or how I can get that look.

With just 2 weeks away from Christmas time, I am sweating out the fat drop, I am running out of time and my patience is wearing thin to get my project done before the festive season.

Please, your help is needed!

    I don't own it. Maybe it is just dForce. Did you try simulating?

  • barbult I have no idea how to simulate it.

    When I try to add a Character, Clothing or accesories, I run the render, if I see something not right I stop it and try to fix it and run the render again until I am satisfied.

    Is a cumbersome procedure for me, unless there is something better to do the things more efficient.

    You don't know how to simulate it? There are two videos linked in the product. The second one is a generic tutorial about dforce simulation. It should help you.

    I am in a frantic time looking to finish what I can and then rest.

    Ah, I don't have it either. As barbult said, try simulating it firstly (ss1). If it's not dForce ready, I'm afraid you have to deform it by user D-Former or Blender as I mentioned before...

    My guess would also be simulation.

    But have you checked that the hat don't have bones you can use to bend it?

    I have the product, so I checked it.
    The hat is a Prop. It doesn't have bones.
    It doesn't have morphs either.
    We can simulate it with dForce.

    So the hat is a prop? The author should have done it a clothing item not a prop! frown

    Deflating it will be an herculean task.

    CES3D I will try your suggestion.

    I am going to have zzzz, wake up refreshed and see what I can do.

    Personally I'd always prefer hats as props it makes them much easier to use on other figures and to move about scale etc. Dforce is pretty straightforward to use. So I don't undertand why it will be a 'herculean task'.

    So it's dForce ready, then just simulate it.

    Making it as a smart prop is much easier than rigging it as a figure... then the vendor didn't have to make lots of corrective morphs on it, so ~~devil

    crosswind Arrgggh! This simulation thing is getting me mad!

    Look at this mess, how I can get that hat properly in the head?

    I just loaded the hat, did some simulation, but I want to get it right, I saved that as Scene Preset and simulation preset or whatever.

    Give me a better easy to follow instruction how I can get this ok, for my sanity sake.

    It's pretty vague to see what the hat looks like. Better just post a screenshot with Texture Shaded drawstyle. Again, I don't have this product, so I'm not able to give solid solution for this sort of issue.

    As per what it tells from this image, maybe you can select the hat, go to Surfaces pane, select the surface of the upper part (if there's any...), set Buckling Stiffness to 80%, Velocity Smoothing to 0.5, Velocity Smoothing Iterations to 3. Then simulate it again to see what will happen ...

    If you can't make your chosen hat work, use a different hat. How about this one? It has a lot of adjustment pose controls. It even comes with a Santa Character. If you don't like the character, PARENT (not autofit) the hat to your character's HEAD bone. Then you can adjust it's position and size to fit just where you want it. In the attached screenshot, I parented the hat to Nikolai 9 HD's head bone.

    barbult I got that character too, I made two renders. 

    Posing the caracter was an extreme pain, while Nikolai 9 HD has more freedom movements.

    I tried to fit the hat from the Genesis 3 version, I thought I got it!

    Then it went sour, after applying an standing pose bowing forward to give the present, I think the hat band broke free from the base.

    I will try your suggestion first, hope I can succed this time around or I will spray insect killer to the computer!

    Edit: How did you identified him as Nikolai 9 HD? the image is grainy when I stopped doing a test render, you have a good eyes!

    I didn't know what character you used. I just chose Nikolai, because he was the G9 Santa release. The trick is to parent the hat to his head, Don't try to autofit it from G3 to G9. When parented to his head bone, the hat and fur will move with his posing.

    I deleted the hat, I dont know if I can fit the fur prior to adding to the character?

    The pose controls show 0%, because the hat loaded in the pose I showed. I didn't need any adjustments for that pose. When you pose your character, the hat may need some of those adjustments. There are a lot of adjustment options. You shouldn't have trouble adjusting the hat to go with your pose.

    barbult I am not sure about this, just choose the Santa Cap or the Santa Cap w Fur too?

    I tried it before and went rather extrange, not like when you have a Lego brick and you build with that frown

    I repeat again: Do Not Autofit the hat to the G9 character!!!!!!! With NOTHING selected in the scene pane, load the hat with fur. Then parent it to G9 Head bone (not just to G9, but the head bone of G9). Then translate the hat with fur into position on G9 head. When you pose G9, the hat and fur will move with the G9 head.

    Edit to add: It is a lot easier to position the hat if you parent it to G9 head while G9 is in the default pose. Pose him after parenting the hat to his head bone.

  • barbult I will do that later, I will have som e visit, this takes some time out of me to do the fittings in the scene.

    If everything goes well I hope its done the good way.

    That looks nice, and Sue Yee products are top notch. It might be a good choice for a Santa cap, and it is for G9, so should fit well.

    Ok guys, thanks for your suggestions; I have bought that suit.

    I will work with that hat.

    And in this month alone, I spent more.

    I expect from Daz to give away a better present, a bundle, previously there were bundles included in the freebies, that choice is scarce nowdays.

    crosswindbarbult Everything went ok, suddenly something extrange happended to me.

    I believe the culprit was the Simulations settings that were on, I had taken out the Simulations settings and another pane related that wwere making some kind of mischief on me.

    Also I had emptied the Cache in the Preferences.

    I am doing an heroic effort to get all the things in order, I am not a hero in underpants.
