Just playing around. I've been learning how to make overlay masks in Affinity Photo. It's kind of a cool technique. The figure used is a dial-spun girl starting on the Victoria 8.1 base though Victoria is dialed way down in this figure.

It's been a while since I've been active in the forum. I had some losses in my family which were hard to deal with. It's just been a rough last couple of years. When I have been on the forums, I've mostly just lurked in the background. Sadly, that also meant there wasn't a It's Raining Men contest last year, and there won't be one this year either. I do really hope things get back to normal for me and perhaps, I can resurrect the contest in 2023 if there is still interest in having it. I apologize for just ghosting on that, but I just didn't have the mental capacity to deal with all the issues that always comes up with having the contest. Normally, I don't mind, but I just can't yet.

So Genesis 9 seems to be out. I'm not sure if I'm impressed with it yet or not. I did pick up Victoria 9, not the bundle though. I have to say I'm surprised Victoria 9 only came with one eye color. Even Genesis 9 comes with the the normal base colors like blue, green, brown, etc. Usually Victoria has those same basic options. But no, she only has one eye color. I so hope that isn't a trend for Daz characters in the future.

At any rate, I did have fun playing with the new figures. I'll withhold judgment about the new generation until more characters come out and we have access to all the morphs. At the moment, there isn't really all that much I can until even the basic morph sets come out. I really need to work on taking figures out of Daz Studio and morphing characters on my own. That's not something I've been very successful at doing yet. I mostly rely on morph sets and spin dials. Not something I can do until I have dials to spin!

So here's my first renders of Victoria 9.

    Closeup of V9:

I haven't been happy, so far, with my test renders of Genesis 9. I'll keep working with her to see what I can do.

I couldn't resist getting the Toon Kids by Joe Quick. Toons are almost always an instant buy for me. I had fun with this one.

I had to snap them up as well. It's rare that I don't buy JoeQuick characters on release day, even when it's financially perilous for me to do so, and having toons so early in G9's life cycle is a wonderful thing. Good to see you back!

I'm sorry for your loss. Glad to see you back, those V9 renders look great!

Same. I have all of JoeQuick's toons and a few of his other characters, like all the ducks. I was so surprised to see a toon for G9 already but very happy.

Thank you. It's been a trying last year and a half to say the least. The holidays last year were especially rough. Life is starting to get back to normal. I'm starting to get back to normal. It feels good to be back in DS rendering again. I looked at my last post and yeah, that last render I did was right before things all fell apart and it's been over a year since I had posted anything. That's mostly because I hadn't been rendering anything either. It's nice to know I haven't lost any of the skills I've learned over the years.

Good to see you, @Diomede. Thank you. Things are getting better with time. It's still hard, but all I can do is move forward. I'm glad you like the renders. I had fun with them.

Here's a couple of renders. @Mousso dropped a new lady, so of course, I had to get her. MSO Peppa HD for Genesis 9 is cuter in her promo images. I definitely need to try with a different hairstyle and lighting. But this render's not bad.

    MSO Peppa

Here's my first attempt of creating a custom character with Genesis 9 now that the shape morphs have hit the store. I do have to say I'm loving all the asymetrical dials. I think they help give characters a little more realism. Used the Base 1 skin from the Essentials pack. I haven't started playing with custom skins yet.

My second attampt at creating a custom G9 guy. He's a little different than what I normally go for, but I think he turned out pretty good. I used the Base 2 skin for G9M that comes in the G9 Essentials pack. Not sure if I really like any of the base skins so far.

One more render before I go to bed. This is Trajan HD for Genesis 8 Male. He's what I picked up as my Halloween treat/freebie.

I haven't see anything that makes me want to go and buy Genesis 9 anything.  I'm still waiting to be "wowed".  Meanwhile I've got so much other content....  Its good to have you back.  I'm sorry that its been so rough.  I've had a ton of life changes myself, some good, some bad. Here's to a better 2023 all around!

Playing around with the new Toon Heroes for Genesis 9. They are so much fun to play with. I love @JoeQuick's stuff. Did a little bit of post in Affinity Photo and then took it into ComicLife 3 to finish it up. Nothing too special. It's been a long time since I've played with ComicLife and I've forgotten just about everything I ever knew about the program. I'll have to brush up before I attempt to do any comics again.

Something about this picture makes me think it would look really good as a 16 bit pixel graphic!

@Knittingmommy have to ask cause I haven't found a thread about Toon Heros for Genesis 9 ,have you tried using the parameter tab to adjust the eyes? I did and am having issues with the up and down left and right being a$$backwards , I have made a ticket but still wanting to know if it was just me .... oh and love the render !!

    Thank you very much @Hylas

  • @carrie58 I did not notice anything wonky with the eyes when I was posing. After reading the comment that @Hylas linked, I think it's because 1. I wasn't mixing my characters as they were straight up Toon Heroes dialed in at 100%. 2. I used the expression sliders and didn't try doing any posing strictly to just the eyes. The poses I used were poses for G8M and G8F, respectively, using Zev0's G3 and G8 Pose to G9 Pose Converter and it does not do anything with expressions. I think it's because expressions don't convert well between characters.

Basically, character and expressions were almost out of the box, so I wouldn't expect anything wonky to happen. I'll have to play around with that to see if I experience the same thing as everyone else when my current render is done. Right now, DS is busy with rendering a background scene for me and that could take a while. Lots of trees and sunset lighting and all those things that make renders take forever. :)

I tried looking for a thread for Toon Hereos as well. I figured if no one made one by the time I did my next render with them, I might start my own. So far, I'm loving them. I'll be very happy when we get the first 3D Universe characters for G9. That will be a happy day, especially if they come out with a Toon Generations package!

Oh me too I am so hoping for 3DU toon characters for G9 , I like adding a touch of toon to most of my characters. Yeah I tested Toon Heros ,and anything lower than 100% the eyes go wonky ,well  up and down switch with left to right and cross eyed is kinda reversed.......

Playing around with a couple of new things. Used Victoria 9's skin, but the eyes textures are from Natural Eyes 9 for Genesis 9 which I'm in love with. Seriously good textures. The figure is one I created using Face Morphs Kit for Genesis 9. I had a lot of fun with that. I started with Victoria 9 and dialed her back to 75% and added in a little bit of VYK Sydney for Genesis 9 at 15% and then adjusted the nose, cheeks, mouth, and brow until I got something I liked.
