I've enjoyed looking at all these Aiko and Hiro images, past and present.

I only initially bought Aiko for Aikobot, but then, when I started using Daz in 2016, I never expected to buy any figure older than Gen-4, and I've since picked up all the Gen-3s.

    So here's my submission

Speaking of 'One of Us' as the memorable line from the movie 'I, Robot'

Here's what that scene would look like if Aikobot starred. (probably would have been the definitive version).

Never saw that film (since the only commonality with asimov's works was the title) so I had no idea that line was used there.

I was merely using it in a generic sense.  Basically, It warms my heart when somebody "raised" with the newer Genesis figures discovers the joy that is Aiko 3 and her related materials and characters (particularly "Melody for Aik o3", in my biased view THE definitive cute "catgitl" figure).

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I don't have Melody yet, but it's probably only a matter of time. I should probably hurry, Mil-3 stuff is slowly dropping out of the store - I missed the Young teens body/head morphs (gone before my time), and V3 and M3 are gone end of last year. Aiko might be the last to go.

I run Daz on Linux with Wine, and found using the older figures means better program stability, plus more figures in a scene, plus simpler figure surface material setups.

The old gen-3s skins are easy to mess about with to change tone or gloss, gen-4 are a little more complex, and once you reach Genesis, editing skin appears to be a little like being required to do gene splicing after straight after kindergarten. Starting with the gen-3s helps me learn one generation at a time.

They're also a fun challenge 'how good can i make these old figures look'

@GafftheHorse , if you do opt to purchase Melody...

    https://www.daz3d.com/melody-for-a3

...you really need to get at least this "add on" morph set...

    https://www.daz3d.com/furries-for-melody

...which greatly expands her versatility.  Without it her facial range is a tad limited.

There are "add ons" to this "add on", but what they primarily offer are distinctive textures and face "presets".  You can use the textures without the "Furries for A3" but you won't be able to use the facial "presets".

Similar situation for the male counterpart, Micah...

    https://www.daz3d.com/micah-for-h3

He really benefits from his "Furries for Micah" set.

    https://www.daz3d.com/furries-for-micah

As long as LittleFox stays as a vendor, I think these products are "safe".  (Having stated that, watch them vanish tomorrow...just to spite my words.)

Oh, definitely!  But to clarify, this package is an "addo on" for the 'Furries for..." sets.  The face "presets" require the morphs provided in the first "add on" collections.  Thankfully, the textures work even if one does not have the "Furries for..." sets.

Arguably, this package has the most realistic fur patterns (relatively speaking) compared to the others which were done in a purposely stylized "cartoony" fashion.  I used this as the basis for an OC I created way back in 1985, having something roughly akin to a quasi "Abysinian" look.

I really wish more "realistic" pelts were offered, but when Lady LittleFox released her initial "stand alone" version of "Star", she pretty much abandoned Melody and Micah.  Fenric (a former vendor primarily of Carrara based scripts) created some, but they were sold elsewhere.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Cheers for that info @Redfern & to you @Divamakeup

They'll probably have to wait until a good deal then, furries aren't my focus, so while I might idly pick up Melody and partner to try out as they are cheap, I'm not certain I'd get enought use to justify spending a lot more.

    But....We'll have to see.

In the meantime, here's a fresh Aiko scene....(a little naughty) I had to scrap through freebies for swimsuits for the girls but couldn't find anything nice for hiro.

Sylfie has invited friends over for a pool party, but has forgotten to prepare the pool, and it's all ick.....

@GafftheHorse , I quite understand.  I just wanted to "warn" you that Melody without those "add on" sets can be a tad "limited" and a challenge to deviate from her somewhat shy, mousey look (in both senses of the term).  I bought the figure as soon as LittleFox released it in 2007 (I think), but I didn't do much with the figure until Beth Capses released the "add on" packages almost a year later.

    Bill

I read somewhere else that the Micah / Melody head are kind of 'carnival heads' with a few basic expressions (sort of like the attached 'guy' - there's a version with and without a set of very basic expressions) or am I thinking of a different furry head?

Expressions tended to be a bit basic until around gen4, and during gen4's era expressions were virtually all packaged as one-click presets, not dials that you could mix or adjust.

One of the biggest benefits of GenX was its ability to port expression morphs to Genesis1 and save them on dials. It was only in the Genesis era that we've been being spoiled by expression packs that we have some control over.

Are Melody and Michah now sold in a form that's usable out of the box, or do you still need a translation/conversion utility to be able to access them?

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,607

According to another thread asking that same question, Melody and Micah are now usable straight from the zip file, ever since they were brought to this store from RunTime DNA.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Oh, that's good. Having to find a version of the translation utility that ran on a Mac was a real PitA.

You may be thinking of "Melody 2" which is a package that contains a "head" a tail and a pair of eras that can be, in theory, "parented" to any figure, rather like a "mascot" headpiece as you described.  LittleFox originally planned to provide follow-up elements like a trans-mapped chest "ruff" and additional morphs allowing the head to attain more unique shapes, but she released "Star" shortly afterwards.  the "toon" human proved to be the big seller, so "Melody 2" was metaphorically "thrown to the curb", abandoned.  "Melody for A3" and "Micah for H3" are entire figures, the bulk of the geometry actually the same as Aiko 3 and Hiro 3.  The hip has more polygons to allow for the built in tail and the head is not merely a severe morph of A3's face, but all new geometry seamlessly "fused" with the neck.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Having just got Micah & Melody, are there any options/addons still available for their hands and feet to make the more toon/paw like, add claws?

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,607

The only things for their hands have been the morphs that come for A3 , those of her DAZ morph sets and some "padded" fingers Capsces offers in the :Furries for..." package.  I kinda' "mix & match" to achieve a somewhat more paw-like appearance.  If you're referring to the  feet, eh, sorry, you're kinda' out of luck.  A vendor calling himself JENelson at Rendo' (aka Achronicity at Fur Affinity), once offered a package called "Kasa for A3" that could give Aiko, and by extension, Melody, "digitigrade" (toe standing) feet.  But he closed his store maybe 10 years ago.  You might be lucky and can reach him through Fur Affinity (provided you have an account there (it's free).  He shared an "improved" version of that set with me and that's what you see in my more recent renders.

    Sincerely,

    Bill
