Possibly that's where I went wrong. I updated to 10.12.5  . I see lots of crash logs, but not sure which one to use.

The latest one named DAZ Studio something is a good hint ;-)

Iray Crash, have you updated your nVidia driver and CUDA drivers?

I have not. Thanks ~ I will totally try that. You rock!

ETA: horray!!!!! It totally works! Can't thank you enough!

  • Since I upgraded to the last release 4.9.4.11, I got those 'things' in my viewport for both textured and smooth shader.

Thanksfully the rendering are corrects but I would love to know what's going on !

Changing mod doesn't solve the issue...

Never seen that, but check your Video setting under preferences, optimization and such first.

Is the item in the scene a SubD model? Some meshes used to give errors like that with the default CatMark algorithm - changing to the elgacy Catmull Clark mode helped, as I recall.

Interesting news for Mac Users (from 9to5mac)
We have reached out to Nvidia for a statement about compatibility down the line with lesser 10-series cards, and I’m happy to report that Nvidia states that all Pascal-based GPUs will be Mac-enabled via upcoming drivers. This means that you will be able to use a GTX 1080, for instance, on a Mac Pro 2012 system or via an eGPU setup. Exciting times, indeed.

Saw that on MacObserver....still can't find any info on if I can use a eGPU with my iMac though....macrumors and apple forum have been a bust so far for info.

EDIT: And before I logged off, I gave one more try on the google box, and found some promissing links

    https://www.theitsage.com/beginners-egpu-setup-guide-mac/

    which points to a forum : https://egpu.io/forums/

    https://egpu.io/thunderbolt-egpu-for-mac-2017-update-macos-sierra/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/3bzxmf/egpu_over_thunderbolt_123/

    https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/building-external-gpus-on-mac-egpu.1893792/

I posted on eGPU on macOS a while back, but things have changed a bit since then. I will warn, because this is a bit of a hack, it could stop working at any time. I also have no information on how things might change with eGPU support in High Sierra when it comes out. All that said, I'm running an Akitio Node on the latest version of macOS Sierra with no problem. The automate-eGPU script found here downloads the Nvidia Web Driver for your version of macOS and makes the changes necessary to get it working with an external GPU. If you're comfortable running scripts from the terminal, it's very straight-forward. I've been running it on an old 17" MacBook Pro using an Apple Thunderbolt to USB-C adapter for several weeks without any problems. I also had a previous generation of this configuration running on a hacked up Akitio Thunder 2 running for the last year without any hiccups. I'm hopeful that High Sierra with compatible Web Drivers from Nvidia will eliminate the need for the script hackery.

nothing changes that behavior. It happens even with a all the primitives.

I suppose i might reinstall the beast ...

Looks like OpenGL screws up. If you check the DS log, any GL warnings?

  • sorry, i already started the reinstall from scratch.  We will see in a few if it does it again.

  • beside that, nothing relevant after a fresh install...

What Shader settings do you have for OpenGL? with Pixelbuffers, antialiasing etc?

  • yes on all as the screencap shows. I tried switching them on/off but nothing changed.

It was working fine before the upgrade.

    *puzzled*

Which version of DS did you run before?
Have you checked for the newerst nVidia WebDriver?

  • it was the 4.9.3.166 afair and my drivers are all up to date.

The card and mac are not overheating at all, so i'm a bit baffled hehe...

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

    Then this is weird ;-)
    Which OS X version?

  • El capitan. Sorry i should have mentioned that on the first comment!.

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

That's what I run and so far nothing like that (no sqished donuts). Does that happen whatever object you load in the scene?
Which preview mode? Texture shaded? What if yiu just swap to another preview mode to try to pinpoint the error?

  • it's happens only in textured and smooth shaded modes. Switching from/to others modes doesn't fix it, nor playing with camera... and it happens with any objects or scene or primitive, but their shapes appears correctly when you select them, and nothing on the log.

Sounds like an OpenGL issue / shader issue. You have rebooted just to sure it's not just a memory corrupt driver?

  • yup. I think we did the whole shebang. I can live with that anyway... I had memory corruption in the past and usually you saw some artifacts all over the screens and not that very specific issue.

So no big deal, i can live with it :)

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

Those artefacts usually was a corrupt video driver (or with the iMac, the note that the video card was about to burn).

  • yup. I had another card too close to the 970's fan. No iMac here but an good old mac-pro 2009 with a brand new videocard and some good ssd. I was hoping apple would announced a new mac-pro like that, where you can add whatever you want, but no luck... So i keep mine :)

Rumors says January 2018. I had my 780 6GB suddenly die on me, MacPro 2012, the old AluMacPros are the best, real work horses.

  • I really hope but i'm a bit scared of their prices and tbh, i'm looking at the hackintosh.

ouch! was the card old ? and for the record, i still have the GT120 that was delivered with the mac. Very useful for booting in emergency when the webdriver is updated...

I also have a GT120 in that one, the card was 2 years and 1 month (I had 2 year warranty on it)

  • i'm curious, anyone installed an 1060 6Gb on a mac ?
