Those LaCie drives. Also have USB 3.0

Leo on Seagate says it can be done. He says I need a UBGREEN USB thunderbolt4 to thunderbolt2 connector.

I asked him where this can be found. I'm still waiting for an answer.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,099

Double checked. I got the name right as Leo typed it it is UBGREEN USB thunderbolt 4 to thunderbolt 2 connector.

is there any such a thing?

I even asked Leo if he's an AI or a real human being. he says he's a real human being, Leonardo.

oh, the last word in this device: make that adapter not connector. Otherwise, the name of the device is what he gave me. It just ends with adapter.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,099

Apparently there is such a device. I googled it. it shows places where it can be bought. But my question is, will it actually work? Does anyone know?

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,099

What I found with Google is UG Green not UBGREEN. But the way Leo gave it to me is UGGREEN. Maybe he meant UB

well, I'm not very knowledgeable about this. That's why I'm asking for help. I don't think this kind of Page reference is going to help me.

I've been going through the items on Google, trying to figure out if one of them would actually do the job for me. I don't know. I don't pretend to be tech savvy. So hopefully I can get real help.

You're good to go then: at worse, you'll be able to connect them to an USB 3.0 connector on a Mac Studio (at the price of maybe some performances, no idea if your drives are fast enough to go faster than what's allowed by USB 3.0).

so that would work with the USB 3.0 Connector?

I guess I could then buy an external drive with thunderbolt 4 And copy the contents from the Thunderbolt 2 Drive onto the Thunderball 4 Drive. Does that sound like it would work?

I don't get it. If Apple doesn't make a Thunderbolt 4 to Thunderbolt 2 connecting cable, how would I even hook up a Mac Studio to my Mac Pro, which has Thunderbolt 2, in order to run Migration Assistant?

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,099

I've searched Google for a vendor who could transfer the contents of a Thunderbolt 2 drive onto a Thunderbolt 4 drive, but all I find are articles about how to do it. Is there such a vendor?

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,099

Well, I'm now being told by Apple tech-support, that what I need is an adapter for thunderbolt three to thunderbolt two
thunderbolt three and thunderbolt four are the same size the ports

so I have the thunderbolt two cable in the old Mac, and on the other end, I'd attach an adapter thunderbolt three to thunderbolt two then I would plug that thunderbolt three into the studio, because the three and four ports are the same size

and the tech-support person said, I'd be limited to the thunderbolt to speed

said, I could use the same cable, and hook it up to an external thunderbolt to drive, and that the drive should mount on the desktop of the Mac studio

so does anyone think this should not work because the tech-support person was pretty confident that it would work

    so

Again sorry for what looks like semantic goofiness I was using speech to text on my iPhone. I just don't want to type in. Arthritic hands and fingers so speech to text is so much simpler

  • Trying to install Daz onto my external hard drive on my iMac running OSX Ventura after installing a new SDD and RAM cards, and each time I tried to install DAZ and PostgreSQL CMS, it says "Retry"! I even turned the permissions on Full Disk Access off and on, and still nothing!  I even tried to install it on the computer itself, same thing!

    What could it be?

Did you give the "DAZ Helper too" (Com.DAZ.DAZ3DDIM) full disk access?
Also, are you installing Applications to the default location (/Applications) or somewhere else?

  • I tried for the first one, still nothing.

I'm installing Daz on a external hard drive like how I did on Windows.

    from terminal

  • Not that I know of.  Even trying to allow disk access doesn't work.

Still no response from maintain about Cocktail and weather it's safe to use Cocktail 15.6, which has not been updated in a long time, with Monterey, the latest version, 12.7.3. Would anyone care to guess if it's safe? I haven't used Cocktail for weeks.

This was during my latest attempt, it's from the log file of DIM.

  • I tried a clean reinstall, I allowed access to the disk, and still I get that damn "RETRY" button on DIM!

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,542

    Hi,

I set up a VM with macOS 14.3 on, freshly installed. Downloaded DIM and installed the default packages without any problems. When you run DIM the first time you get two questions, one is to allow DIM to access and one is to allow the DIM Helper Application to run. If you did not allow those two, you will end up with the problems you are having.
The Helper App is autenticated when you allow that and can then run using the privilegies you give it when you authenticate in DIM while doing an install. As DIM asks every time when installing, the settings in Security & Privacy is no longer used by the OS, just the first authentication of the Helper App.

  • Problem is I didn't get the questions, they didn't appear for some reason.
