Sounds great Skiriki - thanks for the potted summary (^_^)d ... (did you type all that from memory? o.0).

Joseph Campbell would have a field day... ;-).

Pretty much! It is very evocative pair of episodes, with plenty of story highlights.

It is no different from cosplaying a Disney Princess, Sailor Moon character, or other forms of cosplay. I can, as a counter, post some really cool cosplay pictures that aren't mock-worthy, but what's the point? There's always that iffy minority everywhere, no matter what hobby, including 3D, which makes things mock-worthy.

...but men don't usually dress up as Belle, Merida, or Sailor Venus (then again I am going to a Sci Fi con nest week so who knows what I'll see).

I see no reason why they shouldn't, if that's the way their fancy takes it. There's a really great male version of Slave Princess Leia, for example, but even if he did it as a female version straight-as-is, sure, knock yourself out. Enjoy the day.

    Sorry to interrupt...

I knew it was just a matter of time, but:

This is probably old news to those of you in Europe, but apparently the Dolphin Apocalypse has begun...
No "So long and thanks for all the fish", this time its "Die human scum" or "EEEEEEEEEEEE, EEeeeEEeeeee, EEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEeee"
in Dolphin- in case you happen to hear a dolphin shouting that at you.
I really thought it would be the Feline Apocalypse first, but apparently the cats had something more important to do instead.
My best suggestion is get one of these:
    http://www.thefind.com/family/info-dolphin-costume
Learn to squeak and squeal a lot and try to maintain a decent level of fish breath... this is the best advice I can give.
In the event this reaches you too late, I am sorry... you will be avenged... well, mostly...
As for me I will be joining the Free Human Resistance League (not affiliated with the S&M club in NYC of the same name) and going underground (Dolphins don't burrow well).
    Good luck my friends...

I now return you to your previously scheduled thread...

The journalist seems unduly relaxed - if, instead of swimming out into the Atlantic, the dolphins turned left at Alb...in the Mediterranean and swam through the Suez Canal into the Indian Ocean they'd have a much more direct route to Oz.

There's always that iffy minority everywhere, no matter what hobby, including 3D, which makes things mock-worthy.

I must, however, note some other points made by the show:

    1) Father-figures aren't portrayed as bumpling idiots who don't know which end of a baby needs the bottle and which needs the diaper. Mr. Carrot Cake is shown to take care of his babies with the same efficiency and no-nonsense as Mrs. Cupcake (his wife), and that this is something perfectly normal that fathers do.
    2) Realistic expectations: when Twilight Sparkle participates into a running contest, not having run one before, she does not somehow become the winner, but scores fifth place nonetheless. When Fluttershy goes through a training montage to increase her wingpower, she does not leap from zero to hero, but achieves notable improvement in any case. Which ends up making the difference between failure and winning.

There are plenty of similar things dotted all over the show. Little things that set it apart from all other shows.

Just sayin', rushing to judge it too fast is doing yourself a disservice.

I wasn't judging the show or the stories or the lessons it may give. To do that, I'd have to watch it. I guess I shouldn't have spoken my mind. I'm not into the cosplay thing, either. I'm a big fan of Star Trek, but I never dressed up as Spoc or Kirk, either. I'm not one for doing that kind of thing normally. Maybe I'm not one to speak of these things, either. Sorry I did. I meant no offense to you, or anyone, and certainly don't want to start some kind of war here.

I would like to have attended a Trek convention, or Star Wars convention. But I wouldn't wear the costumes...at least I don't think so. Maybe I'm too insecure, introspective or some other "in" word.

Yes, I'm aware of the toilet paper thing and a few others. Like I said, to each his own. I'm sure it's fun to them. I did kind of like the movie. It was fun.

Woke up with a scratchy throat & cough this morning. Laid down for a bit after brunch and when I turned over & looked at the clock, it was 17:15. Dozed off for almost four hours.

    yikes

i'm reading the 'self editing for fiction writers'. big eye opener in ch 1.

"are you describing your characters' feelings?"

    doh

"keep an eye out for any places where you mention an emotion outside of dialog"

    oh noes.

resisting an urge to skip to the chapter on 'beats'.

THIS. I am so unbelievably annoyed at movies and cartoons that have a character being a total washout and overall bumbling idiot and FLOP through 9 tenths of the film or series and then suddenly... Seconds before the villain finishes him off... By some miracle everything just "makes sense" to him, and he turns around and kicks the crap out of the villain and spends the rest of his life as the next Hercules or whatever famous hero figure you choose, whereas the last 53 minutes of the film he couldn't tie his own shoes, tell left from right, pick up a sword, or even in extreme cases spell his own name.
Similarly dislike characters magically becoming awesome at something they've never once done before in their lives, only to prove the "If you think you can" theme.

As for the squirrel plotting thing... Honestly, call me naive but I have no idea where all this hype for squirrels, penguins and whatnot came from.

I once got to meet and speak at length to James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Walter Koenig at a local electronics store in Chattanooga years ago. It was sometime just before the release of the 2nd film, and they were in uniform, signing autographs before the Convention. Their limo was late arriving, so I asked if they minded if a friend and I chatted with them while they were waiting; they were very kind, gracious and friendly to a couple of star-stuck silly fan-boys. We found out they were truly grateful to the fans - warm and generous people.
We eventually made it to the Convention, but I'll always treasure that half-hour with them.

i read through chapter 8 so far. omg. tomorrow i have to start going through my work and cut all the adverbs in speak attributes, check for disposition disguised as dialog. re-evaluate beats, internal monologues thought attributes. narrative distance - head scr'ch - gonna leave that one alone and ponder it for the next project. i'm psyched to start polishing, but i need some sleep or i might end up with polished gibberish.

    XD

Honestly, around here most of the folks I know just plow 'em down and don't bother swerving. It's dogs and cats that we skid to a halt or swerve to miss =)

Haha well I'm thinking more of the world as we know it and less of the great cosmos :)
I think reptiles and crows/ravens will take over quite nicely when we finally leave. Reptiles are a lot smarter than most give them credit for. They even know how to play :D

Four minutes of rendering of a well-fed biguana lizard.

    I likes my bellies, I admit it ^_^;

    Indigo =3
Haha, guess this could be considered a "Pointless and unneeded render drop" of the "Unbiased renderer" variety, sub-class "Om noms Renders" and "Fantasy Reptiles" categorization.

Am learning more about Indigo's lights though. Seems using the default Reinhard tonemapping type mutes all the colors and lights and they don't process very well. Using a realistic camera model simulation instead produces more accurate results, and the lights work better rather than being all of the same light strength. Murr =3

*edit* And yus that's Spyro's news studio. I imagine he'd have hoped it would be put to better use than this though XD
