Morning. Cool today under a marbly white and blue sky :)
You can turn off shadows per light or per object, shadows are either raytraced or not, dont think there is a per object setting for it :)
...there is as long as you are using UE. Was steered to a really nice tutorial thread all about hair (bookmarked) which included the steps to turn off ray tracing and occlusion on the hair as well as improving the look of hair content as well using render settings. After making the necessary adjustments, 12 minutes later I got this...
Very nice, palm trees and all!
Dana
Yes it looks good. Dont use UE at all cos don't understand it
Yeah, whenever I open up DS again, I'll have to check it out. I didn't even know what was in there. I thought UE was a pay for item.
Dana
If you use the DS Lantios lights, most use UberEnviroment.
As I understand it, it is basically for use as ambient indirect lighting, so the shadows aren't as dark. But considering how well I understand stuff...

...basically 4.5 has it "built in"
The UE area lights and Uber Enverionment2 in the Library/Light Presets/Omnifreaker. folder In LIbrary/Props/Built in the various light elements by themselves including the light sphere that UE2 uses.
In Library/Shader Presets/Omnifreaker folder you will find the basic HumanSurface, SimpleSurface, UberSurface and UberVolume folders. These work with the surfacing pane when an item is selected.
Studio3Advanced also has this in the Content/Studio folder.
There are expansions like the Uber Soft Light, Uber Point Light, Elite Human Surface Expansion Pack, and UberHair which do cost extra.
Are these things what they call "mesh lights"? Or is that something else. I'd love to be able to make a lamp glow by making it a light, things like that. I just don't know what I need to do that. Not only in DS, but in Poser...as I also have PoserPro 2010. I've only used that once, but it was a pleasant experience actually. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

...been downright cold compared to a week ago and going to continue so through the next weekend. For a couple days we are going to struggle to reach even 50° with off & on showers & drizzle. Good weather for staying in and working on 3D projects.
...here's a good tutorial by Szark that explains it better than I can. I'm still somewhat new at all thus UE/US stuff myself since I never had a system that could support rendering with it without crashing until now.

Good Evening :)
tried to say good mornin this mornin but was stuck in the clouds and flares
...Well on the way,
Head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
or the sound he appears to make,
and he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
...yeah been a real pain submitting anything today.
Most of the issues seem to be fixed now. Working pretty good for me the last few hours.
who was it used to say fool all the time? mr T on the A-team?
sleepy early t'nite
misskitty bandaid on my booboos. a few oopsies last weekend.

Thank you, I'll check it out.

I just had to post twice.

I haven't had any experiences like that yet (Maybe because I don't like in the big city?), but one of my friends has had experiences akin to that with a loot of people. Exapmle: while buying her medication she had an anxiety attack and nearly passed out, and the ONLY person who bothered to do anything was one of the people who worked there - who threatened to run her down with a cart if she didn't "get her lazy @** off the floor", and when she got back up? The clerk at the counter informed her she had to pay the full $400 or so because "you didn't give us your discount card. Too late now though, so sorry."
Why can't we quote someone who didn't post here? We used to be able to just put a quote in the quote tags and it would work. Just another thing that is worse about this place. Nothing got better.

I'm not surprised. In February I went to the doctor for a problem I'd been having for three months, only to have the gyn inform me that she'd had another woman wait SIX months before coming in, with the implication that I was a wuss. Big city medical personnel are not accountable socially the way ones in a smaller rural area are, they're just worried about processing enough patients through fast enough to make a profit beyond their insurance premiums.
The worst part is that this was the GOOD dentist. The BAD dentist numbed me up without giving his name or mentioning what procedure he was going to do. Then when I asked what he was doing, he told me the wrong one, then left. After 20 minutes I decided screw that and left, switching to the new one's office.
Then the new one left town on a trip, leaving me with the sadistic hygienist and the substitute dentist, who was obviously a newb and kept asking the hygienist details about how the office's tools were used (!) on top of everything else.
That's why I drive 25 minutes to get to my dentist. I'd try someone in my city, but I don't know who's good, and I'd hate to end up with one of those horrors!

...stupid site just logged me out again.
This is going beyond irritating.
Anyway, so I got an email with a second 5$ "thank you" coupon offer today then saw that Sickle Yield's Morphs were on sale and thought cool, I can finally get these. Applied the coupon and it told me it was invalid. Nothing on the email mentioned it had to be used on DOs, but then I saw in the small print that read: "on a purchase of 25$ or more". Beginning to sound a lot more like Rendo's coupon deals lately (I think I only took advantage of two or three since I started in this).
With the required minimum purchase, the 5$ savings doesn't make it worth it to use as I am on a much tighter budget now.
I really miss the old vouchers.
I miss them, too.
...yeah, there were no minimum purchase requirements, you could combine them, they worked on both DO and PA content, and if you didn't use them up on a single purchase you still has something left over for the next time (as long as it was used by the end of the month).
10$ (with the coupon from last week that had a minimum purchase of 20$) in potential savings that pretty much means nothing as I have to purchase a total of 45$ worth of products to take advantage of it.
...and it also lost both Daz and a PA a sale.
...maybe I can win a GC in this month's RRRR challenge.
Thank you, I'll check it out.

There should be a method for controlling occlusion (on for example hair) with surrounding geometry somewhere then, look for a "fantom" section that implements renderman specs, should be there 'cos uber in a renderman context means a process that exposes most/all available shading methods :)
Okay... O_O

"Cineware
Cineware is a brand new way to work between After Effects and Cinema 4D by letting you bring Cinema 4D files directly into After Effects with no rendering. Imagine Live Compositing™ directly in After Effects without having to render any files out of Cinema 4D. Change anything in your Cinema 4D file and it will automatically be updated in your AE comp."
But THIS
"Cinema 4D Lite
Included in the upcoming version of After Effects is a FREE version of Cinema 4D called Cinema 4D Lite. It’s a new version of C4D specifically made for AE. For After Effects users, its a simple and free way to try out 3D in their workflow without buying anything other than After Effects. I think this will open up 3D to an entirely new set of users that would have never tried 3D before. Plus, if AE users find they are using Cinema 4D Lite in their projects and need more power, there is an easy upgrade path to the Professional versions of the software like the Broadcast or Studio version. A Full 3D package inside of After Effects… Period. "

Yes looks good, there are a few AE pipelines getting around :)
Thank you, I'll check it out.

There is, but I've never tried it. The cool thing about UberArea lights is that they are applied as a shader to a mesh, so potentially any mesh can become a light emitter. The area lights come with several preloads with meshes already set up for use.
In Dark Carnival all the light bulbs in the scene have the UberAreaLight shader applied, so each light bulb is emitting light.
Semi-Complaint:
I just bought an amazing industrial model pack, but most of the objects within (Including the three warehouse models) use MoGraph cloner objects, and thus they come in incomplete with most of the object missing as my edition of Cinema doesn't support that =/
Semi-Non_Complaint:
I was able to get it 30% off from an offer the site was having at the time though :3
Non-Complaint:
The pack also came with some real nice HDRIs :D
Semi-Complaint:
Cinema 4D won't let me input values below 0.01
So when I use an EXR image as a background emitter, things are VEEEEEERY bright. As in, with all settings default, the second sampling update will make the entire image a pure white color. That bright! I can set the EV Adjust to -10 to get a similar effect as what I found out below:
Looking at a tutorial on using EXR and HDR images as backgrounds, you need to input the value "1E-5" into the Gain setting, but Cinema won't allow that. Evidentally this value is VERY far below .01
I can input that inside Indigo standalone, and it gives the same result as setting the camera's EV adjust as low as it can go, but I can't inside Cinema XD
I bet it is a veery small number ^_^;
*edit* Number turns out to be something along the lines of .00001 Go figure :)
Anyhoo, a test render using one of the HDRs (Converted to an EXR with Cinema4D's Picture Viewer, as the exporter doesn't support HDRs ><)</p>
Ooooo...shiny!
And a glass draggy because they be fun to do :P
Also would be really cool ice sculpture. :)
