    ...OK, Taxday complaint.

Went to the eFIle site to check on the status of my federal tax forms today . Up pops the message

A server maintenance is being performed. Try Other [service] Web Servers. We apologize for any inconvenience.

So on the most important day of the year for these people, they take their primary server down for maintenance? Sounds like "the dog ate my homework" to me.

It only gets better. I click on the link for another server and when I enter my username and password I get this:

    - username or password is not correct

...ummm excuse me, that is the correct password. Tried again just to make sure I didn't typo anything and the same message appears.

So now I have no idea of whether my federal forms were accepted or not until these fools put the main server back online.

They owe me a little more than an empty apology. This is definitely the last time I do an eFile.

Who are you using to e-file?

I've been e-filing for years using TurboTax, even though the extra money they charge you to do it is rip off. I've never had any trouble. I e-filed this year on Saturday, the 13th. Got emails that my state and federal returns had been accepted in a few hours.

...using one of the free services (1040Now) as I am low income

It has even become worse as when I was finally able to sign in, I discovered that my Federal Form was rejected because of an error.

I wish I knew what it was for what they listed looked like an excerpt of cryptic programme code than anything that resembles plain English. What I can gather it seems to have something todo with the filing status for it mentions something about "Married. Filing Jointly" status not checked.

...ummm excuse me, I am single...like in never married, that is the status box I checked.

I sent another support ticket (with a copy of the error text) to ask them to explain this mess in plain English. Makes me wonder if the server being taken down didn't bollix up my form.

To make things ever "better" because the federal form was rejected, was told I also had to resubmit my State form even though it was already accepted by the State revenue dept.

I never NEVER dealt with such rubbish. This eFile is supposed to make things simpler and faster, right, and I have a a choice of 6 bridges here in Portland to sell them. Based on this experience, I would have been better off posting the whole bloody lot of forms as I've done in past years (which I am close to doing). Fortunately I have PDF forms completed & ready to print, but it means I now I have to waste 5$ bus fare going into the city another 3 - 4$ at Kinkos to use their system to print of the forms, and nearly 1$ in postage to mail everything off only to not see my refunds until fraggin' mid June.

    Sympathies.
No state income taxes in TN (yet). I'm retired but not old enough to collect SS yet. Not making enough income to file, but I do anyway. I used to file my own hard copy tax form, but it got harder for me to understand (or I got dumber, maybe both) so I started using a reputable tax service to file for me a while back. It costs a bit, but there's a peace of mind involved for me in avoiding a gap in my filing as I will eventually collect on a few retirement payouts which will require some taxes be paid.
Hope you get your problems resolved soonest.

    ...thank you.

Made one small correction (accidentally clicked incorrect day for the DOB), and resubmitted the form. In reviewing the PDF form created using this service, the filing status checked is clearly "Single" which is correct so I don't know what all this "Married Filing Jointly not being checked" rubbish is all about.

I've sent them two messages explaining that time is growing short and I do not wish to (and will not) pay any penalties or incur undue delays in receiving my refunds because of this. I know I have until 12:00 local time, but if I have to end up sending in the paper forms i need to leave soon to get to Kinkos to print them off and then to the PO to post them.

This has been a total debacle.

I don't know if anyone here has seen the news, but I mentioned the Boston Marathon before I went to bed. Well, two bombs went off near the finish line today. At least two are dead and 49 injured, some with life-threatening injuries, at last count (I stopped watching CNN around 5:00 or 5:30). One or two other bombs were discovered and disabled. One more bomb went off in the JFK Library in Boston. This was obviously a concerted effort, not a random thing. I don't know if they've found more bombs yet, but they've shut down Logan Airport and the T.

    Crappy day.

Homeland Insecurity didn't report any "credible threats".

Complaints, I have a few, but then again...

...thank you, I hope so too.

I just hate being held hostage like this not sure of what I need to do. Do I wait this out and hope they resolve it? Do I go into town and Post the paper forms? I sent them an email detailing this better than I could using their support site. What gets me nervous are all the penalties I could incur because of this.

Next year, I'm going to go back to the tried & true and just post the bloody things again.

    -----

Heard about the Boston situation on ESPN. Very shocking. Pretty much that is all the announcers have been talking about this afternoon as it as the marathon is such a major event. I understand the NYSE dropped 200 points on hearing the news.

I'm not surprised by the stocks drop. They always drop when there's an attack of some kind on US concerns. I don't like or trust the stock exchange. I mean, what does a bomb in Boston have to do with, for example, Alcoa Aluminum? It's a hell of a thing to let control our financial institutions and eventually our personal finances. It's gambling on a large and high end scale. Gambling is OK for those who do it, I guess. But I hate that the big businesses have decided that they don't want to invest in their employees' retirements anymore. Let them gamble with the little bit of money they have, and I'll keep more of my millions! It's a nice attitude, no? :-/

I don't think it is a coincidence that today was the third Monday in April, when Massachusetts observes "Patriots' Day", a state holiday.

Probably not. When I was watching, they said nobody had claimed responsibility for it yet. I'm sure that will change, too.

...so it looks as if the email route was the correct one as I received a response and am going thought the parts of the form to verify the information. Was asked to check the spouse information section to see if I hadn't accidentally enter anything there (which I didn't) then re-enter the DOB info and re submit.

So I guess I'll see what happens in a bit. Still have the paper W-2s and flash drive with the PDFs at the ready just in case. Not sure where I can get envelopes and stamps this late though as the PO customer desk is now closed.

One of our kitty cats died this evening. We knew she was going to pass anytime because she had cancer. She was having labored breathing and we knew it was time to put her to sleep. Since the vet was already closed we had to take her to an animal hospital. They were going to put her to sleep for us, but she passed away beforehand. At least they didn't charge us since they did nothing.

We had another cat that died on the 14th of April last year. Helluva anniversary. Another reason to hate tax day.

We have a dog that is going on thirteen. She seems really healthy, but that can change quickly. I sure hope it doesn't happen the middle of next April.

We are thinking no more pets. It's just too difficult to deal with when they pass, all the suffering they go through.

Of course we really love animals so that can always change. Two puppies and two kitty's still around for us to love.
