..OK hit my first little snag in the Big Install of 2013. Apparently all my Gen3/Gen4 figure, hair, character and older clothing installers are on DVD rather than the HDD or a USB stick.

So now sitting and waiting while copying all the installer folders over from the DVDs to the desktop so i can install them. Maybe I didn't need that big 32G stick that i got after all.

Norton on the new system really doesn't like the Base V4 installers because they are so old they have no user history since I copied them from a DVD rather than DL'd them through Norton.

Also the DIM is totally useless. Seems for it to install any files you first had to use it to DL them. Not going back and DL-ing everything all over again. That would mean drinking waaaaay too much cawfeeee.

    Non-Complaint:

I got the checkout wizard working! Yay! (only for freebies at the moment, I still have work to do on the PayPal side of things). And...

the order history and download pages are working, too!

Well, as food I like lemons. As far back as I can remember, I like lemons. When dining out with the big family (not often, but memorable) when I was young, I'd take the lemon wedge they put with drinks (iced tea and such) or with seafood meals, and bite and suck the juice. The adults around the table would make that sour face. It was funny. :-P

Of course, life lemons are not so much fun or tasty.

    ...conga rats.

Wow really interesting, didn't realize just how much and what I all have until I embarked on this whole thing. Some of the content still has the old "Digital Art Zone labelled installers.

Just finished installing all the base Gen3/4 models.though can't find the M4 stuff so the H4 base character will not install.

If they only left the Itemised Order History alone instead of screw it up like they did it would be easy to just reset the DL for the Starter Bundle and re-download it all. With the site set up to work with the DIM the Order History utility no longer works for resetting downloads so I don't even have that back door to use.

Multi tasking seems to be failing me. Just typed a folder name on the notebook on which I am viewing the forums. Had to find out where it ended up in this post to delete it.

KK, I just downloaded the newest version of Taosoft's DHM and logged in and selected an item in my history and clicked on the View Order Page button, and it brought the order up in the built-in browser. I searched for an item, clicked the Reset Checked Items button, and then looked in my downloads, and there it was at the top of the list!

(...bugger, mouse is hooked up to the workstation, need to get a second one.)

That is good to know. When the DIM first surfaced people were having all sorts of trouble with the History Manager.

    Have to DL & Install.

Doing a test pic just to make sure the paths and my Scenes/Scene Elements folders work.

So far one casualty, can't find Lantios Lights I or II where they should be.

...not sure if Studio supports a "swap drive". I know Carrara does. Also again to use a Swap drive you need XP Pro, My old system only has XP Media Edition (which is basically XP Home with a few extras for media apps like Windows Media Player) so it does not support swap drives at all.

My notebook has 4G of DDR2 PC 667 in Dual channel mode so it's even slower. In comparison my workstation is DDR3 PC 1333 configured in Tri Channel mode

Anyway while a swap drive will give you more memory "overhead" against crashes, it is even slower than your on board RAM because of the port speed.

As your XP Pro is 32 bit, the most memory it can support for any single application is 3G with the "3GB switch" (that needs to be set in your INI). Any additional memory whether on a card or USB stick will offer no additional benefit.

I meant for the OS, not for DS or other appliations. And I never thought of it for XP, I know the limit is 3Gigs. I thought that having the extra RAM, even if it is external, would be better than not having it. And better than virtual memory on a hard drive. Surely USB3 is faster than that. And some of the newer SD memory cards are high capacity and high speed. I was only curious, as I have no money for upgrading to Windows 7 anyway.

Carrara Pro 7 at least can also use multiple PCs as a render farm. I forget how many it can be without getting an add-on (I think it's called The Grid). My desktop computer is the fastest in the house anyway, including a gigabit ethernet. But of course, I've never done anything with Carrara yet.

Did some of my best work on 32 bit platforms :)
...same here until the apps and content became too robust to support anymore. This is still is my all time fave.

    Yes it looks great :)

..OK found another issue. For some reason it keeps trying to save scenes to the Root (Computer) instead of the Scenes/Scene Subsets folder even though I manually direct the file there on saving.

Also found that Lantios Lights ended up in the "Other Import Formats" path in the content library tab and nothing shows in the icon pane below. That is a bit odd as I used the same installation path I have been using for all the older content that goes into the 3Advanced content runtime.

Looks like I'll be on the N & B forums for a while tomorrow.

Well late and getting tired, tomorrow's another day.

    BTW nice pic there.

Congratulations Skiriki! The wife and I just had our 15th anniversary. We only knew each other for 3 weeks and 2 dates before getting married. Forgive and forget is the key and the realization that it will kill you financially if you part ways. :-) I hope you have as successful of a marriage as we have.

Remember that , since it's downloading installers rather than zips, DHM will use more bandwidth and will probably be slower than DIM.

Is that what time it was? I got up, looked out, confirmed all the racket was hail, and went back to bed and sleep. Now it's sunny with a clear blue sky. Texas weather--might as well love it.

Yeah, noisy stuff, and out where I'm staying (Braker/IH 35) strong winds as well.

After 5 years I'm kind of getting used to the weather here... :blank:
