...OK had somethign really odd occur today.

Fired up the workstation, and began installing some more content. on clikcing on the first part of Real world Police Officers, the typical Windows security dalogue popeed up, clicked "Yes" and the icon the disappeared from the folder The same happened to the Mil Horse Bundle afterwards. I recopied them to a USB stick and when I attempted to install again. A Norton Dialogue Popped up that I needed to Restart the system. On doing so it went into a process called Startup Repair (something I've never seen before). It said it sill not affect any data on the system but is has been running now for several minutes.

I originally downloaded these to my Notebook with Norton IS active and they were flagged as being "OK" so I do not understand why this occurred now.

Have to sign off for a bit as I need to transfer the USB modem to the WOrkstation to Connect to the MS site.

    -----

    OK had to restart.

7 opens fine, everything on the desktop is there, however something looks hosed with Windows Explorer as well as all MS processes as the icons displayed are the "Unrecognised Application" ones, and cannot expand any menu selections with these icons from the Start Menu. Meanwhile, other application like 4.5 and that will launch OK.

The system started up fine the first time this morning and the trouble only occurred after I made a second attempt to install the MilHorse bundle.

I did update the GPU drivers yesterday from nVidia, but again that was DL'd through the latest version of Norton IS and again was flagged as OK. They also installed without error. Not sure how to fix this because utilities like the onscreen calculator, notepad & such do not open.

Have to sign off again so I can go to the MS site directly from the workstation.

When was the LAST time you Updated the Norton on the Station? Norton needs Steady updates to stay in step with the check sums that are now in the Passed as Clear part of the check logs it uses.

EDIT: I'm saying your Online PC has newer files if the station has not been updated for some time.

On the topic of computers and heat -

In March of 2012 one of my harddrives reached 129 degrees F after I fragmented the drive. I bought a case fan later. lol The CPU and core reached 120 degrees while I was playing games and using 3D programs. My computer's motherboard does not allow me to change the speed of the CPU's or case's fan.

EDIT: I'm saying your Online PC has newer files if the station has not been updated for some time.

...that turned out to be one part of the issue.

The last time I tried to update (from the main Norton screen) it was taking forever as it was a 154MB file and my poor connection speed was making it take forever (only 7mb DL'd after about four hours). After working with Norton online help was given a file name to DL to my notebook, as they were having difficulty troubleshooting things because of my unstable connection. When I tired to instalthat I received an error that it was having difficulty with some kind of idIentity target match (the only thing I can thik of is that then I DL'd it it identified the notemook as the target system even though I specified to save rather than execute). So I reinserted the USB modem and went directly to Symantec's site to try the download again. Turns out it took just over two (rather than the 55 hours I was quoted the last time). There was also a new update that was about 40MB that I discovered I needed as well. So most of the afternoon was spent watching Dl progress monitors but finally got all the updatedes installed.

    OK the "other" part.

Apparently when I installed Win7, I never activated it with MS (the documentation I had seemd to indicate this wasn't necessary and at the time I had no net protection and wasn't about to go online). Oddly, today must have just happened to be the end of the grace period as in the bottom left corner of the ecreen, there was a message (like a watermark) indicating this was not a "Genuine" version of Win7. Also as the Workstation is a standalone, I disabled utilities Auto Updates and update managers as I figured I wouldn't need them. When i tried to run updates, I jkept getting blocked by an error message that a certian process could not be found.

So I went to the MS site to see what I needed to do. To Activate the OS I simply had to go to Computer/Properties while still online. Doing so must have sent the required information as I noticed the "not Genuine" message disappeared and I was finally able use the updats process. After A bit more Downloading and a couple restarts during the process, the Start Menu returned to normal with the correct icons and all the MS utilities worked as usual.

In all a big relief as I really didn't want to have to run a restore and risk losing things (like scene files I recently worked on) and content I recently installed.

Please excuse any typos as I am doing this from the workstation in IE8 (currently DL-ing and configuring FF).

Going to sign off now and be back after I restart FF.

...well back on the notebook and a Stupid Connection Reset killed the post I was writing just before I was about to submit it.

...and another (this time I was able to save most of what I wrote)

Seems that there is something about FF20 that either Magento or Clouflare doesn't like as every time I attempted to preview or submit a post, I was sent to my account page. I have the same setup for plugins/add ons as I have on the notebook so none of those should be causing the redirect.

Don't care to use IE as it has no spell check, is slower, and will not open a page in a new tab unless you expressly tell it to at the time.

Also still can't figure out why I am locked out of folders on my own system. Makes no sense as on the user account page it lists me as Administrator. However, I can find no tools to use to unlock the folders I need access to. The Change Account type page only has two choices "Standard" and Administrator" (which is checked).

...oh, and managed to get the content items installed . Turned out they were not deleted, but just disappeared form the display because of the update issue that messed up Windows Explorer. Now wondering why some components of P3DA's grass prop cannot be found. Looked in the Geometries folder and all the "large" prop filed are missing. Have two installers and wonder if I missed one like I did with DimensionTheory's Ecomantics. Of course with all the installer changes made because of this new Product Library thing, probably won't be able to tell and will have to DL the product all over again.

IE's virus protection keeps clashing with Norton's on my machine. I use Chrome now as a browser and it has been relatively trouble-free (so far). Faster, all the Norton stuff plays well with it. I had to turn off 2 parts of Norton that kept screwing things up.
    1. That reputation thing kept eating new exe files Never heard of it? Must be an evil file!
    2. It kept changing my wireless connection to limited and disconnecting me. Got a metered connection? Noton's answer: shut the connection off. Found that and shut it off as well.

Glad you've got things sorted out a bit.

...yeah pretty unproductive day. Played around a bit with Kimberly (she really does look like Sadie's older sister/cousin) last night before heading to bed and as usual, ended up with a new pic in the works. Wanted to use the P3DA grass prop when I ran into the missing geometry files. Discovered that yes, I did miss one of the installers. Fortunately they didn't reconfigure them into zip files yet so I only have to DL the missing one (ugh taking forever as I'm at home).

So does anyone know how to deal with this locked folder thing (and explain in in plain ol' everyday English)? I can't even get into the My Pics or Docs folders right now. On my old XP system I could just "unhide" these.

When you look at the drive folders do you have a toolbar at the top of the page? In Win8 there's a choice on the bar labeled "view" with a check box in its menu for "Hidden Items". If win7 is similar, maybe that's it.

If you have not done it the Admin setting is still just a standard user account until you set the Admin privileges for that account.

Nothing that says "View". The options are :

    Organise,
    Properties,
    System Properties,
    Uninstall/Change Programme,
    Map Network Drive,
    Open Control Panel

If it's just hidden files you need to see, I open Control Panel -> Folder Options -> Show Hidden Files/Folders

    There's a specific way to reveal hidden files in system folders, but I forget what it is. ^_^;

    Also!

Hmmmm... People keep talking about that Primal Carnage game... But what's so special about that game anyway? Beyond the "Play as dinosaurs" (And the noms) bit? From what I gather it's just "Yet another Team Fortress Game" but with far superior graphics (And dinosaurs).

From all I've seen of it so far, that's all it appears to be - A Team Fortress clone. Maybe a bit of Unreal Tournament mixed in, but it just seems to be Team Fortress with dinosaurs (And noms.)
    Nooooot interested XD

Though to be honest, I was initially looking forward to the game. Being able to play as the critter is so rare, and om-noms in-game? Even bettah!

But their site was such a mess, I could never figure out what the game was going to include. They just kept saying “We're planning on adding more to it later, but we aren't going to say what or when.”

Later they showed some pictures of some awesome feathered raptors that would replace the scaled ones IF you pre-order it. This got me even more interested (On top of the spino-noms, which was pretty awesome compared to the bland Trex noms animation), but as I still couldn't tell if it was going to be an online PVP only game, or if it'd have offline single-player arena stuff with AI bots like StarWars Battlefront and Turok Rage Wars (Loved playing as the raptors in that. Sure, you couldn't pick up weapons or Auto-Turrets, but RAPTORS!) I held off on purchasing since it only had one game mode at the time.

Then all of a sudden the preorder bonus expired, and ONLY THEN did they say “We've confirmed the addition of two new game modes. Still multiplayer PVP only. Tough luck on missing out on the preorder bonus”

After that I just said “Screw this” and forgot all about the game.
I've had my fill of PVP only games, and simply have no interest in them any more – even if it does include dinosaurs and omnoms.

Someone informed me they WERE planning on a single player game in the series, but that you were forced to play as a human and there was no option whatsoever to be a dinosaur.

    So yeah. ^_^
Though I do think is a good thing I never spent meh money on it. No point in paying for something you're not going to enjoy yus? The game does seem interesting - especially allowing the dinosaurs to be playable, but I've frankly got very little interest in PVP Games, and even less (Read: Absolutely none) for strictly PVP-Only games like Team Fortress, Unreal Tournament, League of Legends, etc. I'll stick to admiring the dinos and the noms from a distance rather than spend money on something I'm not going to enjoy ;)
