Random thoughts:
*Got a lot of positive feedback on my T.rex sculpt, even more so when I admitted it was my second time using the program
*Bought Age of Empires 2 on Steam. AI is vastly improved ("Standard" AI wiped the floor with me hah. I know I'm a bit out of practice with AoE2, but I played the original last night and it was the other way around! They were almost hopeless! :lol: ) and there's some nifty new graphical features. I don't remember there being an Attack-Move order in the original, but I could just be suffering from the fact I've been awake for 24 hours :)
*Still no word on a GoG/Steam version of the original Age of Empires. Has to be my favorite of the bunch. The graphics and the music had this charm to it the others don't have...
*Been tinkering in Vue again.
*Friend still urging me to learn Unity with him. Make games and have all the funs he says :)
*Is tireds
*Put off writing my main story concept yet again (117th time I think) because I found some glaring inconsistencies in the general plot after I updated how shapeshifting works in my world. I really hate retconning stuff, so I want it to be as good as I can get it *before* I upload it anywhere. 'course, I haven't actually started writing yet... :smirk:

A Few Words on Game Development from Someone Who Went There and Back Again

The Saga of the Compaq Fisher-Price Wonder Cruiser, Fame, and Burn-Out
When I was younger, I wanted to write games for a living. It was glamorous, you'd be famous, and your games would be top sellers! L:ots of glory, the respect of gamers, and fans lined up to see you!
So I discovered a freeware engine called Genesis, found a few guys to work with, and over the months created a game-creation system that didn't require programming called "RealityFactory".
The damn thing made it into a chapter in a book about writing games, and the roller coaster took off!
I had been volunteering at the Computer Game Developers Conference (GDC) for 2 years when they invited me to speak. This was after I got a gig as the game engine programmer for the Compaq/Fisher Price co-op project "Wonder Cruiser".
I had over 250 people in my class. I nearly fainted but somehow made it through and got high marks from attendees.
I met Cliff Bleszinski. I met John Carmack, and John Romero (who was a dick). I thought I was hot hot hot stuff.
Then I over-committed. Too many talks, too many outside projects, too much booze. I started to drop things, then finally in a mad collapse I pulled out of gamedev quick because my therapist said I was "too deep in the lifestyle to see it was killing me".
For months I'd go into coffee shops and some person I'd never seen would come over, say they had a great game idea and could I hook them up with a developer? FFS! I'd always walk out. I got paranoid, I quit going out at all.
After a year I was forgotten, another victim of burnout. ps1Borg knows how that works.
So, given my painfully earned scars, let me pass on Eds Cynical Truths of GameDev:
- Everyone has great game ideas. Ideas are worthless.
- You can't make a AAA title on your own any more, you will need a team.
- 99% of all indie games fail to ship, even funded ones. Think about that.
- The chance that YOUR first few games will ship is microscopic.
- The programming part of a game is trivial. Level design, gameplay, art, and effects rule. Doom3 had the best game engine in the world but gameplay sucked and one of the best game developers IN THE WORLD shipped a relative flop.
- Gamedev will be fun for six months, then when you discover you're woefully behind, your gameplay sucks, your levels are boring, etc. etc. you will work twice as hard just to TRY to catch up. When E3 was approaching, at Compaq/Fisher-Price we were working 12x7, and yes they brought in cots and made sleeping rooms. THOSE ARE NOT URBAN LEGENDS.
- If you must, write games for the love of writing games. It'll show, and while you may never ride the roller coaster you may come out alive.

SyntheticAurality is my ambient music project.. it means a "synthetic audio reality".. a lot of my works lately are VERY experimental. Eventually I'll post a link to my SoundCloud site, lots of my new stuff there. Not what some people call music, though!

Code refactor going slow.. I will hopefully have it done and ready to test Monday after lunch time.
Payday Friday but bank closed, no cash until Monday, but I do have holiday weekend money so I'm good for the 4th.
Kinda complaint: Tulsa buses shut don for the 4th., stuck with cab or lame legs. Thankfully there's a bar within 2 blocks of me that has kick butt live music! And there's a Mexican place AND a Whataburger inside 2 blocks as well! Thus only kinda a bus complaint.

...this is why I never do agree to such offers anymore. It is a baiting tactic that should be illegal.
My Net provider did that to me by "upgrading" my plan to the premium service level as a 'free gift" for several months. However, when it expired I was immediately socked with the increased charges for the expanded service. I contacted them and after several chats with their CS department (with a couple of people for whom English was obviously a second language), I was able to get them to "downgrade" my service back to the basic level I first started with and rescind the excess charges for the month I was billed at the higher rate as I told them I received no messages that the offer was about to expire (I reviewed all my emails from them). They just assumed I wouldn't care about paying more. Took some perseverance, but it worked.
I've re-read those lyrics 8 times and I like them! :snake:
I've also come to the conclusion that I need a therapist again... :bug: :ahhh:
I'll likely lay down a scratch vocal track and basic drums on Friday, then work on beefing up the drums, adding a nice creepy drone, and a better lyrics track over the weekend.
