Thieves...?
Okay, I won't bother you with stuff I can't find. I am certain kids and adolescents are underrepresented (I'm still waiting for Gen2K - Genesis 2 Kids). I haven't seen stuff for K4, Genesis Basic Child or Young Teens in AGES. And I'm sure if the products were good, people would get them. I would... The point is, Josie and Justin are not teens in the broadest meaning. They're one step from adulthood and you need very targeted products such as Growing Up Morphs to start getting a younger look.
I also think we got stuck with animal figures. DAZ Horse 2 is superb, but people stopped getting content for it. DAZ Big Cat 2 is cool, but now the only sets I see are poses - with Olympia, Gianni and Gia. One with Giselle too. DAZ Dragon 3 has those nice HD features. But we apparently stuck with MilDog and MilCat - they're man's best friends and still look old when you place them along DAZ Horse 2 or Genesis, Gen2F and Gen2M. I'd love to see good figures developed for pets. My pigs still look fantastic, but DAZ Pig 2... I'd surely get it! The same with rodents (from rats to hamsters and everything in between) and aquarium fish. Sickleyield's merfolk request fish to play with.
On a general note, I think a good PA will make some money in any department. I'd not advise making skimpwear and sexy vixens though as the market is very supported when it comes to them. Too big competition, too little space. You get my point. Textures surely add more variety. I also think there could be more morph resource kits and morphs only for figures. Sometimes I want a shape, but somebody put so much effort into making a skin (one which sadly doesn't appeal to me by the way) that you have to pay much more. Splitting textures and morphs sounds like a good marketing move.
Clothing, items and homes that middle to poor income families would be able to afford. I see plenty of products that are geared for the super rich or the super poor. Very little for those who live in the middle. It would be nice to have an apartment complex that a middle class family could afford to live in.
PA's make what they want to make, they dont really pick a niche.
If someone wants to become a pa, they should make what they like and make it the best they can, and if it is good enough and interesting enough, then there should be a market for it.
But it is not about picking a niche
well, like, no sense to another zombie theme, seems well covered :)
<--What he said. </p>
Things that involve meshes, custom morphs, or new code sell better than things that don't (with the exception of realistic body textures, which sell well). On the other hand, I've also had a great return on my time investment in things that conventional wisdom says are "bad sellers," including Asian and African morphs, complicated rigging products, and male underwear. I've made girly things before that sold terribly because I'm just not as interested in, or as good at, making girly things. Find your area of greatest passion and work at it until you're the best at it.
The most important thing is that you do a great job and do good renders. We have enough good PA's active now that you'd better be bringing your A game no matter what the product. If your version is fantastic, a previous one existing won't stop it from selling (the market's memory is often short); if your version is lame, it being the only one of its kind won't save it.
more male sexeh garments please. :)
brain works like a database programmer, tendency to over analyze
:shut:
many times i've seen management roll out a new system without communicating with the people who would actually use it. doh.
can hear the consultants chich-ching.
Real Japanese Anime / Manga Characters & Clothes pleeeease! Not the westernised versions!
Real faeries, goblins, etc based on Brian Froud drawings pleeease! Not the Disney versions!
And of course for Genesis 1.

infants and toddlers seems to be a big void
Yes, they are. I have Baby for Genesis, but only to dial the shape partially for my baby gorillas and little monsters. Lily for MilBaby (made by Thorne) is the best-looking infant I know of, but the figure itself is too limited for what I want.
I must see if there's a blonde-proof way of getting Lily onto Genesis via Gen2X.
Middle Eastern costumes?
Costumes of Afghanistan, Iraq costumes, costumes Jews?
OT: [FIFA WORLD CUP] My Brazil today ... It was a hard time for the Brazilian national football team ... But at the very end ... victory! There heart!!
There is a reason for that.. In general a product for men sells about half as well if it were a similar product for women. Products for children sell about half as well as the products for men.
Your best bet is to look at what you do best and go from there. You can always move into new areas later after your established.

...
If someone is making models as a sideline rather than a primary job, I suspect this isn't too big an issue. Once you've got your living-wage income covered, the rest is gravy.
Mind you, I have no idea how many PAs are making models as a sideline, and how many are making models as a primary job...

But if nobody has the courage to try this niche, this situation won't change! Remember DS is becoming highly popular with students who have to make presentations on various subjects for studies. The lack of children-related stuff is a pain for them.
also seeing a project zoo grounds and exhibits. carnival food stands. there are a couple of snack shacks in the store, but can never have too many snack shacks.
can never have too many tourist attractions. or rpg-ish villages.
Misty you have inspired me
and feel free to use my idea
normal maps and textures for primatives to create RPG style villages
i was just thinking of grounds that could work for a village or a zoo. modular like.
and a surround fence could work for both
your typical rpg village has a
weapons shoppe
armor shoppe
magic spells shoppe
an inn
a pub
a couple of houses
a head honcho mansion
...
Oh yes. I always wanted to make some zoo renders, I love ZOO Tycoon after all :). But this would require a fine assortment of animal figures that aren't time-worn like so many we have now (start browsing from Safari Bundle and move in either direction).
But people have. I have and I know just how much more poorly anything that even seems to be related to kids sells.

zoo tycoon haz a cotton candy stand. cotton candy nomms
Niche or not, here's what I would like:
Short hair for men
Sci-fi interiors with furniture, like a bed, shower etc.
Men's clothing. All sorts. With details and adjustments please.
Beach scenes, with accessories.
Alien skins. Both genders. both slightly exo(which is mostly human-like), and pure exo (totally strange).
Things to make common scenes, like... There are tons of food prodcuts, but no grocery carts, sacks to carry groceries in, or supermarket aisles.
We still need more 'water products' which means showers with actual water, bath tubs, sinks, etc, jacuzzi's with foam.
Lots of stands ! And burger/pizza/sandwich shacks too!
SereneNight is right about hairstyles, beach scenes, men's clothing and common props. Though I certainly saw a shopping pack on DAZ - was it Valandar's?
carrara has a shopping trolley in its content
...+1
...public service vehicles like transit buses, city utility trucks, a street sweeper, rubbish truck, etc, which are based on what one would currently see on US streets today.
...standalone scaleable skydomes (day, evening, and night) for use with any lighting setup.
...a city construction site with tower crane and appropriate props.
...those "street chimneys" like one sees in NYC.
...more "cyber future" sets and props (including items like jackports with cables, chip slots, cyber eyes, etc, for Genesis/G2).
...classic 1950s styled SciFi rockets, spaceships, and space station.
...classic 1950s styled space suits for Genesis/G2.
...more 1950's B-movie inspired monsters.
...Predatron's Trash Stash also has one.

I totally agree here. Have a look at the marketplace here and Renderosity etc and see how much "adult" orientated clothing is available. Then have a look at how much everyday clothing especially everyday day clothing for for kids. Its appalling... How are we meant to render everyday scenes with our kids if we having nothing decent to dress them in.
This is something I think Daz Management needs to focus on. It seems like unless your kid is dressing up to be a flower girl, a fairy, or lives in the 1800's, they are not welcome at Daz.
Lets face it, the greater public are never going to stop rendering kids, they are cute, funny and brighten up our lives. I have 2 of them and they my greatest achievement so far in life. I intend to rectify this void in availability of 3D Children and there accessories in the near future. Be it here at Daz or elsewhere....

It bears repeating that this has already been tried, and no money was made from it.
The ones demanding children's products aren't the ones that can sustain an artist doing it. That's why you see what you see in the various stores.. those people are happy to buy revealing female clothing over teenage items.
Generally the only way these items are made are from those that really don't get into a financial bind if a teen/child/etc product bombs.
I think also the uncanny valley thing comes into play with children
unless uber cute toonish like Danni Herring's renders people tend to see 3D kids as too unnatural
a fantasy skimpwear figure on the otherhand is a bit more unreal

Yeh. I got stung pretty badly on some Kids 4 items. The trouble is that 10 people from the forum might buy a given thing but I need 100 on the first day for it to be a decent success. There's a big silent majority in our market that wants a lot of the things we make and not a lot of the things we mostly don't.
There are things that would sell but don't get made because they're harder or not as much fun, of course. But those are a smaller group.
DAZ is happy to accept products that are niche but they are not going to compel PA's to do products that may not be financially (or for that matter emotionally..because yea really low sales feel an awful lot like rejection) viable.
