...well, been putting a fair amount of thought into the work situation as well as talking it over with a couple friends and decided this is just not the right occupation for someone like myself. I thought not having the face-to-face contact would make it easier, but the sheer volume of calls and pace one needs to maintain (even at the start) are too much to handle day after day. There are also metrics one needs to hit and I actually felt as if I was falling further and further behind the required marks each day. While not mentioned as such, there is also a "sales component" involved which makes me somewhat uncomfortable and if you don't make a certain number of pitches (termed "offers") it negatively affects your performance record.

I'm basically a loner who is better suited to being given a project with a deadline and being left alone to work rather than troubleshooting equipment and billing issues on a seemingly never ending basis one call after another. At least I gave it a try to see what it was like. Definitely takes a certain type of personality to do this sort of work which I am not.

So it's back to the search sites again (kept a few of the better ones in my faves). At least I have a bit of a cushion to work with for a while.

...meh, stupid site bogging down again. Got several timeouts trying to resubmit this after fixing some typos.

Sounding like you have to perform a part you are not comfortable playing, is up to employers really to leave individuals comfortable with the roles they want performed :)

...in the classroom/simulation phase they actually did, however once we started taking live calls it felt like "fend for oneself" even though there were coaches available. Most of the time when I was dealing with serious issues I had difficulty resolving, they were off helping other people and by the time they got to me I had to try and come up with resolutions on my own or the caller gave up and disconnected.

I really feel disappointed as this was the first positive contact I had in fifteen months. This is how bad the job scene is where I live for someone of my age with my physical condition and lack of that "piece of paper" from some college. It seems all a lot of places want is some hipster kid from California with a BA or Masters degree.. Nobody cares about lifetime experience anymore.

You made an effort and gave it all your best shot and made a rational decision tho, that's all you can do :)

What dress came with a frying pan?

I give up. What dress came with a frying pan?

It was a dress for Genesis and it was a fairy tale dress but I cannot find it right now.

    edit: found it http://www.daz3d.com/fairytale-dress-for-genesis

I don't see a frying pan in the promos or in the list of what's included.

    Dana

    This is what I see

Must be a surprise bonus. But it has nothing to do with the dress...very odd.

    Dana

Didn't the same PA do some bundles of diner food? Maybe it just got into the wrong product. Nice bonus surprise though.

Blech, my fave cab company here in Tulsa, Green Cab, got sold to Yellow Cab and 1/2 the drivers are out of a job. Thankfully one of my regular drivers is still around.

Complaint: Paypal hasn't taken my Daz order out of my account so I can't use the extra money I see until I'm 110% certain everything has cleared. Then I'm buying that bamboo pour-over coffee maker! :cheese:

Time for a new laptop. Mine is pretty old, and while it's rock-solid it's showing it's age when I run newer programs on it. Time to save dollars up for a nice 3D-ready laptop.. :blank: cut back on going out, have my beer at home, don't go out but maybe every other week.. Oh Well. It was inevitable. :long:

I'll keep the old lappy for music production, and put all my 3D stuff on the new one. This will chew up more desk space, but I have it - even for a lappy with a 17in screen (which I want).

Maybe I'll finally be able to run Vue 11!

...bugger forgot about Columbus day. Was going to go to my branch and talk to the manager myself about getting the three remaining overdraft charges removed. Since the head office saw fit to credit two of them (which means I have a valid case) I don't understand why all five could not be dropped.

At least the transit system is running buses on regular schedules instead of weekend ones like they usually do for these "pseudo holidays".

Well, off to the workplace for my last day.

@KK - ugh. I hope things get better for you.

On a happier note - thanks for the Seattle Coffee Gear recommendation! Just ordered a nice bamboo Melitta pour-over, a pile of filters, a nice cup, and some fancy coffee. Only need to get cream from the local stop-and-shop and I'll be having tasty coffee right at home!

Next up finding a place that sells decent ground coffee here. :blank: I did order as bag of Veltons Twilight Blend dark roast from SCG to start me off, but that stuff is NOT CHEAP :bug: and I want to save it for special occasions. :)

No more big purchases until the new laptop.... oh woe is meeeeeeeeeee..

...yeah I'm OK. Been through tough decisions before. Not every job will be a good fit and I had apprehensions before even applying but thought heck give it a try see how it goes. Just glad I discovered this early on.

Things are easing up out here a bit more, so hopefully I'll find something more fitting for my skills and type of person I am. Again at least I'll have a fairly good cushion for a bit to work with. If they cut my final cheque today, I'll just cash it at the market then deposit the funds tomorrow hne IO go in to talk to the branch manager.

Well gotta get moving as I have to pick up a day pass at the corner market here so I can get on the bus since the transit system doesn't take debit cards (yet).

Bloody stupid pouring rain outside. Still hungry after veggie lunch. Feeling cranky. :blank:

Wanna go home, stuck here for another hour and a half, feh.

I've decided I'm hitting the bar on the way home, it's only about 50 yards from my hotel so my umbrella will suffice nicely. :)

No point in getting on to the computer to do much since it's STILL RENDERING! Need to work lots of 40 hour weeks so I can get a new laptop ASAP. Good thing I'll be working here through January, will be ale to save up for a laptop AND bank some of a possible job search once this puppy ships.

...that's about how much it cost me to build my workstation (including the cost of the new display after the old one frotzed on me).

As prices have been going (particularly for memory), If I applied the same amount of money to building it today, it would probably have 64G in Quad channel mode and a 3.0+ gH'z 8 thread CPU (12 threads if I went with AMD). I already have the twin ATI GPUs with 3 GB VRAM each for a total of 6GB in OpenGL/CL mode, so much for a sluggish viewport.

Well, it was a long holiday afternoon and early evening, shopping with Diane. It doesn't look like I missed much in here...a headache, sweaty munchies, and a cold start to the day...and a lavatory. Yup, slow day in here.

When I worked for COMDEX/Key3Media Events, I got most of them, and also had a couple of discretionary holidays that I could take, plus a handful of personal days which, if not used, would roll over into vacation days the following year. Plus I had three weeks paid vacation, six sick days, and two weeks paid...ummm, I forgot what it's called, take it to refresh...Oh! sabbatical, every seven years I think it was. I fell short of it by a few months. I've said it before, it was the best job I ever had.
