whah the? alcohol lowers blood sugar???

it must be true, this is from mayoclinic.org

Yeah, I've known this for a long time. My doc told me NEVER TAKE YOUR BG MEDS WHEN DRINKING, good way to end up - as said - in a diabetic coma. :ahhh:

I thought she was full of it, but I tried at home one night, skipped my pill and then tested every 1/2 hour.. sure enough, 3 beers & a shot in and down it was going, dropped from about 180 to 98 over the drinking session (but I got pretty plowed). :ahhh:

    It's a weird thing, but.. it's a thing.

woww, i wonder if the little bit of drambuie i have at night for my aches is helping my blood sugar. i'm out of glucose strips to test.

i brought cinnamon powder to work to have with my coffee. smells good too. spirit potion :)

It actually takes a decent amount of booze to have that effect in a seriously measurable quantity, and of course there's the whole rots-your-liver bit as well.

Someday I'll sit down with a bottle of vodka and experiment on myself, then blog about it. :ahhh:

Time to reap out my wish list! :vampire:

Well, this weekend I'm going to make a pass through my stuff and see what I can get rid of. :blank:

It's not so much that I think I'm pack-ratting as much as I need to consider WHAT I want to tow around. Now that I have the coffee maker, I want to take it everywhere with me :red: so I need to make sure I have room for it. I'm seriously considering a portable, hand-cranked coffee grinder so I can get whole bean and grind it myself, as needed.

And now that I have an Android phone, I'm considering selling off the Android tablet and moving everything over to my Windows tablet, which has a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (and a larger, higher-resolution screen). No need for 3 machines at home. :gulp:

I have a bunch of electronics stuff I was bringing with me, thought I'd need them and was wrong, so they can go to a good home. And I need to re-think my wardrobe, I ended up with too many t-shirts AGAIN, and since I can get new clever ones online for $6/each there's no need to tow 'em around with me.

Most important things, in no specific order:

    - Stuffed animals given me by past gfs :red:
    - Main laptop
    - Backup tablet
    - Work clothes
    - Critical papers
    - Field recorder (small)
    - Camera (small, could be replaced by Android phone)
    - Coffee gear

My "rolling duffel bag of holding" is pretty big, so I believe I can get all of the above in without too much work, leaving my backpack for "grab while traveling" stuff.

I prefer living light, even if I so-called "settle down" anywhere.

Heh, I just now figured out how to connect my phone as a storage device to my PC to get pics off of.. :red: and how to connect to WiFi to check email and such. :red: I have to change to the $45/month plan to get 3G data..urgh.. not worth it quite yet, but good to know I can WiFi connect for email if necessary. :)

Wow, 12 years! :bug: :bug: :bug: Longest job I had was 9 years (contractor to the USPS), second was 6 years (Philips Semiconductor), then anything from 6 months to 3 years. :blank: I've been all over the U.S. :bug:

Just figured out how to get a microSD card into the phone, I'm going to pop the microSD out of the Android tablet and steal the earphones (lol)! "Music on-the-go now, great for sitting on the bus or at a coffee shop and a LOT easier than towing the Asus MEMOPad 8in. tablet all over. :blank:

Then I'm going to clear and factory-reset the tablet and sell it on Craigslist for around $75, that's about what the thing is worth now. :long: Or donate it to a school or charity, it's not like $75 is a make-or-break for me.

...join the club, been dealing with this apparently "curry proof" bug for four days now. Ribs are sore from all the coughing. Head feels like an entire futon has been stuffed into my sinuses.

Coldest day of the season so far, only 50° and nearing the warmest part of the day (if the sun was out).

Asus MEMOpad 8. 8 inch screen, Android 4.(not sure), 10GB onboard left, microSD card slot. white case, orange/green Neoprene cover to keep it safe in my backpack. It's nothing to write home about, but it's quite capable for email Web surfing, Kindle reading, and some video watching. Crap for 3D games.

    ...definitely a lot less expensive.

Just got back. Surprisingly, the clouds parted for a while and the sun broke through making for very pleasant walk. Almost had a winter like feel though with the sun so low in the sky (and we still have almost two months until the shortest day of the year)

So medicinals have been procured just sitting down to a bowl of Thai curry soup with rice noodles.

[note to self, western spoons were not designed to deal with Asian rice noodles]

Hopefully we won’t get the high winds with the rain that predicted for the weekend. Due to the overly long summer and lack of really cold temperatures, most trees have their full compliment of leaves which are for the most part, still green. A big windstorm could cause some serious issues especially with the ground becoming more saturated and soft.

...wow that even beats the 18 years I worked at my previous company.

Couldn't have done so in my old hometown (Milwaukee) as once the economy tanked in the 70s the city pretty much "rolled up its streets" and played dead. Like Detroit, and other Rust Belt" cities, it is still desperately in search of an economic identity

There's a lot to be said for having home turf, to know stability and not see every dawn in a different place.

Alas, my Dad was a field engineer, before I moved out the longest we lived anywhere was 3 years. Dad and Mom loved to travel, and I got to come along. :blank: :blank: It ruined me for "settling down", it appears that the wanderlust my parents had ended up in me as well. I was six months old when we first moved, and it didn't end until I moved out in Virginia to move in with my gf Michelle.

I think it was a miracle I was able to settle down for the 10 years I was married and living in Maryland, before I pulled us up and moved to California. Things went downhill from there as my ex-wife really wasn't a nomad.

This is why I'm leery of close real-life relationships, I know for a fact I'm going to feel nailed down and unfree, so I have a natural resistance to any situation that might restrict my freedom. This is not a place you want to try to forge an LTR from, let me tell you.

    Probably TMI.

I'm going to order another pound of some kind of nice coffee tomorrow, I need to stock up for the incoming cold weather, and for long weekend and evening writing sessions. :) And a render always goes better with coffee!

    renders with coffee :) !
    renders with beer
    iz all renderific

lunch truck dude promised to bring spring rolls for lunch

...did my rendering with double shots of Potato Wodka and Orange Juice last night. Helped me sleep better.

Need to go to the boozetique today while there is a break in the weather to get more Wodka for the upcoming stormy weekend.

Yeah, tomorrow will hit the boozeatorium.. wont be going out to the bar, will drink and write, or drink and perform music, or drink and render, or drink and live chat! :cheese:

    ...definitely a lot less expensive.

Thai curry soup! OMG, I'd kill for a nice bowl of tom kha gai and some duck in red curry and coconut milk! Tulsa isn't a mecca for foodies, although the deeper I dig the more I find.. If I can find a micro-brew in this town, I can find good Thai! :snake: :snake:

And trying to eat a nice bowl of Pho with a Western spoon is like having sex through canvas, it might work with enough effort but you won't like it!

    Tonight's drunken maunderings:

Some day I'm gong to kill the spell checker for stifling creativity! I MEANT WHAT I TYPED!

Past 2 syllables you lose about 50% of your readership.

Vodka is not the answer! "Yes" is the answer." Vodka" is the question.

Good coffee can turn a bad day into a survivable day.

Vicky looks better in a nice dress, but leaving out the sword should be a crime!

It is entirely possible to get sick and tired of bacon. :blank:

Temples are over-rated. Clothed Vicky in an office with a katana? Render outside the box!

The stupid spell checker doesn't know what a katana is. Google does. The spell checker is Google. I sense existential angst in the search engine.

That's it for tonight's maunderings! :cheese: :cheese:
