I'll return him then. I have zero patience for that kind of thing.

While I understand that position, it really only takes a couple clicks to fix it, and then you get a wonderful character to play with. To me, it's totally worth spending a really trivial amount of time fixing something if it's something you want to use.

I won't remember to fix every G8 male character I work with, if I understand this correctly. And for years to come? Uh-uh.

You don't have to fix every G8 male character; you only have to fix the base male, and then you're done.

    How do you fix it?

Okay need some technical help. Don't want to move files until you guys lend your expertise. Apparently, when Postgre SQL installed from DIM, it puts the files in C: Program Files- Daz 3D. In the studio, where they WERE going (went to Edit-Preferences - Content Directory Manager) was C:- Users- (me)- AppData-Roaming-DAZ 3D-cms

So my question is- should I change the preferences in the studio from the AppData path to the C:Program Files, OR should I move the files out of Program Files (where they went when I reinstalled) to the AppData path which the studio has? Does it matter?

'Stuff' in, and under, Proigram Files will/should be for the actual database application itself and that is a very good place for it. What you have in prefrences is where teh actual data of the database (the user files as it were) will be seen, and that can anywhere (except under Program Files)  - it's a bit like the difference between where Notepad.exe resides and where the .txt files will/can be.

I think Baku's a great morph, but from the promo images, I'm not terribly impressed with his skin. I do love Spows characters, though, and nobody else really makes characters like they do.

His texture is kind of ... terrible, in a few ways. He's an overpaint of some resource, which means that, except for his face -- which is clearly set in from some entirely different source -- his texture is very very very very uniform in color. Very. Including his palms and soles; having done that sort of correction that's required on other textures that I've had, I get the cost/benefit analysis of why vendors don't do it, but it doesn't make it any less wrong. And even more wrong, and entirely unforgivable, is that his nails and his overpainted skin are the same color. THAT, I will not excuse; it's literally about 2 seconds work to cut the nails from the original resource that you just darkened and paste them in over the nails so that they're normal human color.

If he weren't a Daz-O, I wouldn't have bought him, because he would have cost too much for what he is. However, I do like his modeling -- I frankly bought him pretty much entirely for that -- and I do know how to fix his hands, feet, and nails. I shouldn't have to, but it's something that I've done so often at this point that it's not that difficult.

    1. Put G8.1M into the scene, with NO character morphs dialed. At this point, he'll probably look like Baku if you still have him installed.

    2. Select Parameters Tab/Currently Used. Baku's main control slider, head slider and body slider will all show 100%.

    3. Dial the main slider back to 0%. That should dial the others back to 0 as well.

    4. Click the little gear wheel on the main Baku slider, then select Parmeter Settings.

    5. The top part of the resulting window has options for Name, Label, Path, Type. Ignore those; they're not relevant here.

    6. The next part has options for Min/Max, Default/Value, and Nudge. DEFAULT should be 0.00%. If it shows any other number -- and it will probably show 100% for Baku -- then type in 0.00%. That tells Studio that Baku should NOT be dialed in with default G8.1M.

    7. At the bottom of the window, click ACCEPT to accept the changes.

    8. File menu/Save As/Support Assets/Save Modified Assets to tell Studio to save the changes to the actual morph files themselves. Studio will then show a popup window telling you that it's saved those specific files.

    9. Exit Studio to make sure that it makes the changes and clears any other information in memory.

    10. Go back into Studio, load G8.1M. He should be back to normal.

I know it looks like a lot, but it takes MUCH longer to type this out and to read it than to actually do it, if that helps.

In my experience, it's not even necessary to exit DS. I just fixed Baku, deleted him from the scene, then reloaded 8.1, and it was back to normal. And yes, as you said, it takes very little time to actually do this. The most time-consuming part is just loading the 8.1 into the scene in the first place. There's a way to fix this without even opening DS, by editing the base male in a text editor, if you prefer going that route. That seems like a Barbult type of fix.

I didn't even look that closely to notice that; I was just struck by how uniformly glossy and flat his skin was. Does he even use the PBRSkin shader or is it just Uber base?

This is frickin' ridiculous. I compared notes with my hubby who also has Daz, and I have a ContentCluster folder in the Program Files, he doesn't, and mine is EMPTY. I don't know what path to put in the studio preferences, as I no longer even HAVE a user/AppData folder now.

I reinstalled, restarted computer, went to Content Library and then those submenus at top and clicked Start CMS and that fixed it.

How did you install? This won't work for a Connect install (unless you copy the corrected file saved to the regular content directory and paste it over the bad one in the Daz Connect data directory in /data/cloud/1_84219/ subfolder)

    Ah Novica and Barbult,

I just heard our noon weather forcast and they showed the coming bomb cyclone for the East Coast. Bundle up.

Denver had 5inches of snow yesterday, temps this morning were about 13F, feels like was -1F as I walked Bugsy.

Tomorrow more snow and that wave will be coming you way, with Miami supposed to drop to 30F.

If you have any delicate plants, pets or whatever, you may want to bring them indoors and check your local weather folks.

On a side note, I had coupon from Micro Center for a free 128GB stick and on Sunday went down there and browsed the laptops. Saw a nice gaming computer with a 3070 card for a reasonable price, but wandered over to the Apple area. Walked out of the store with a MacBook Pro M1 computer, 10 cores. Finally got DAZ Studio installed today. Apple has made the walls to jump over to install other companies products really hard. But it is done, and I am gradually loading my library (another months' long endeavor). I have already found some items I love, not available for the Mac. Sigh.

    Mary

  • At one point yesterday the Saturday forecast for NYC was 2 to 20 inches of snow.

How is Bugsy feeling? Hope on the mend? Congrats on the new computer!
Yep, it's going down to 20 here in Pensacola. Shadow (stray cat) has a tent, several blankets, and a heating pad. I'm moving a second one from a different tent (the better one, under a patio table) to the tent he prefers. It's funny, the one he likes covers my palm tree, so it's wonky and rumpled, whereas the table one is a perfect square. Both are really cozy but he got used to the palm one the past eight years every winter. He'd been using the other one, but for some reason the past two weeks he switched to the palm one again. I had left the other heating pad in the table one just in case he used it, but with it being 20 degrees I am putting both in the palm tent. Stetson has a really heavy blanket and he's been blanketed for a couple months, so he's okay. They shut the barn doors and the windows so no breezes blowing through either.

Of course, Ci Pwff the Samoyed LOVES this cold weather!

LOL someone had too much fun with a readme. dForce Queen of Egypt Outfit has this:
Daz refit Daz adds wording here I don't know what all is with this set.

So mods, may want to alert Daz.  Their proofreading skills need a bit of work.

It has been less than 15F the past two days on my morning walks and because I went and got myself frostbit as a kid playing in snow & ice the whole day for weeks on end - it still hurts now. If you remember the blizzards of the late 70s you'll remember those snows. We had icycles as big as I was then and I was 6' from an early age, hanging from sandstone cliffsides! It was both gorgeous and a blast to wander about all day in that. No fear though, after the 1st mile has been walked my blood is pumping enough to stop the residual frostbite pain. Odd how the body can "remember" that frostbite so as to give a better warning the second time around. Here, we are supposed to get snow again too but apparently not much as they don't even mention an accumulation in their forecasts.

Well Bugsy is an old, old dog. He humored me twice today as I made him wait to go out for his BIG walks until the snow hit (it slowed down overnight) but he got to trudge in the new snow, on top of the frozen snow, into the wind, driven snow. At one point this afternoon, the snow was being blown sideways in front of my living room windows.

But, he had to investigate every hole, lump, and whatever he found on the ground, even a pizza box that had been blown onto the grass area. He protested when I picked it up to put it in the nearby trash can. It was PIZZA!

His last report from the vets said he is doing better, no tests until April. But that nose of his sniffs out his meds I have to give him, so I have to keep changing it up. He is just too smart.

My pictures from the phone have a weird extension. .HEIC, so I can't attach them. He is looking so fed up with me.

Tonight is supposed to be 5F. Not looking forward to the possible 'Feels like' tomorrow morning at 3am.

For all of you on the East Coast, stay home, stay warm, and I hope your electricity and gas stay on.

Well, you know it's something when your son texts you at 12:30am and asks if you're awake. He's got a fever, cough, congestion. A customer confirmed Tuesday he has Covid, so here we go. I told him to immediately go take two extra strength Pepcid (famotidine) and a zinc, and a D3 vitamin. I had studied famotidine for several months, when NY City fell to pieces with the initial covid surge, they were giving it intervenously and patients were rebounding/staying off ventilators more than those without it. (Given at 9x the recommended dose for us regular folks.)

There have been studies by the Chinese, Israelis, Germans and Americans, and some studies don't show much improvement but those seem to be the smaller studies. Here's one study, in case you're interested. Jury is still out but if I have to go into a store, I take Pepcid at least two hours before I head out, and again later that day. FWIW, Trump was given famotidine when he got Covid :)  Made the CNN headlines and I was like, "Aha!" my research is good. Here's another article.  As always, consult your doctor. There's no side effects for MOST people- but it depends on what other drugs you are taking and your health. This is not medical advice, I'm just sharing what has worked for me when I have to go out in public (fully masked, vaccinated, and now boosted. But my vaccinations had gone to 8 months past the shot, so I was a bit susceptible for awhile)

Another medical site (Like Mayo Clinic/John Hopkins) detailed their results with zinc and Vitamin D3. They saw results. Just google those.

It's a newer file format that Apple likes to push atm, you can set it back to JPG in the phone's settings, I think under Camera. For pics that already are in HEIC, there's free converters to JPG.

First, how is everyone in Florida and up the Eastern Seaboard doing?

@tsoremi and @nonesuch00 - thanks, finally found it. (I should never try to figure out my phone early in the morning. Eyes don't have enough coffee yet.) Lowered it to jpeg. Will have to get to that converter.

@Novica, how is your son doing today? I hope he just has a mild case.

Well an update on my experience with my MacBook Pro M1 and Daz Studio 4.16.1.34 and not to let it off the hook, DIM 1.4.0.80.

    1. Not sure what happened, but Genesis Essentials 8 and 3 installed without 'ANY' metadata. So they do not show up in Smart Content.

       a.  As each item loaded or action was taken, the screen went kinda of white, like a vail was laid over D|S.

    2. I tried a simple G8F, dForce Yunbae hair, Everyday 2 outfit and textures, Everyday 2 Daily Poses and Clothes Vol 1 pose 02 and a HDRI for lighting/background.

    3. I ran simulation even though the hair has a lot of morphs, but I just let it go to see how fast it was. Let's just say, I turned my back, then turn around and found it done! I had become use to it taking 10 - 15 minutes on my Windows' computers.

    4. I did my standard Mitchell Pixel Filter, Memory Optimization, 900px x 1456px and didn't really look at any other options. Missed that the Headlamp was 'on' if no scene lights. I prefer off. The render took per the log 1 min 40 seconds.

This is not fancy but, the computer didn't blow-up or crash. And I was able to work through some of my process to find where I need to change things a tad. Like move my Render Library to my external hardrive! But one thing I am frustrated with is the inability to put a space in a title or a search. I am not sure if it is the program, my MX keyboard, or the laptop's keyboard (I tried both keyboards, so I am clueless.) Will need to test on Word. Nope, keyboards work fine in Word.

@memcneil70   The new computer seems to be working great for you! Yep, hate that automatic headlamp.
My son felt much better the next morning, went in to work as they have tests there (he opens the store, so no one else there to "catch" it. It was negative, and when he woke up that morning no fever, congestion almost gone, no coughing. So it was just one of those things fortunately. He tested again today too, late tonight, and it was still negative. :)  Yippee!

Current temperature in Pensacola is 30 degrees,  (ah, just checked and it's now 28. Dropped two degrees in 20 minutes!)  high today will be 63. We had a wind warning but it frankly never materialized, at least the times I was outside briefly. We're going down to the teens in real feel. Says wind 3mph so at least it's calm.

What are you guys getting in the 75% off sale? I had a hard time picking. I went for two males who are unique, aka older, have a lot of character. Want to point out that Chaotic Hair- glad I looked closely at the thumbnail promos because the hair goes DOWN nicely to be an everyday hair. Be sure to take a peek at the smaller promos, particularly the first one, second row. I missed it when it was 3.63 recently. Dang it.

@Novica Since you have a new computer check out the UltraScenery content now on sale. With my new RTX3060 these were rendered in under 5 min.

The one with the bugs was a happy surprise. I added the bugs to the scene with scatter.

I found an article on Render Settings and thought I'd share it and get your thoughts. I didn't think the section on Oversampling was well written, I still didn't know what they were talking about after I read it. But note the Spectral Conversion section. I did switch mine to the latest cie1964 and kept it on Faithful. (Natural has more distinct sections  and may be preferable?)

What is yours set to? I find I am rather lazy at changing settings, didn't even know about cie1964  I also turned on the caustic sampler. ItREALLY shows the difference in the renders. (Note the pedestal part, not the round part.)

I tried those once & it had the effect of dimming the entire render, particularly photometric point/spot lights, so I stopped using that feature at all. The only light that was really contributing to the scene when I did that was the Sun-Sky or Sun-Sky & Scene, in other words, the DAZ Studio iRay Dome lighting. HDR lighting worked as well but I avoid HDR lighting now. That effect may of been intentional in iRay but it don't make sense to me. Maybe it behaves differently now.

I don't have any opinion about the spectral rendering part. I will say, however, that the part about the Tone Mapping section seems to display a rather profound misunderstanding about how physical cameras work and how those functions map to Studio. The idea that you would only do f-stop and film ISO in post, for example, is complete nonsense.

I'm not going to link to it because I don't want this comment showing up as a forum reference (in the plug-in) but are those seriously supposed to be logs in the Stonehurst House product released today? They aren't listed as props, but appear to be what's used in the boxed fireplace.

Yep they look to be logs and a prison cell.  Oh and can someone tell me what that extra toilet looking thing is? At first I was thinking bidet but the water spot is pointed down?  And the hinges on the toilet are on top of the seat?

Interesting concept but I hope they built it on a hill where noone can see in!
