Grabbed Carrara and PhilWs Beginner Tutorial during March Madness. I am a total Carrara noob. But I did some experimenting with Luxus for DAZ Studio. Are those examples of any use for Luxus/LuxCore in Carrara: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1035802/#Comment_1035802
Started with DS Luxus-Presets and some DS Luxus Shader products in the DAZ Shop. Then from the Metal2 experiments upwards, I have worked my way through the LuxRender Wiki. LuxRender Parameters you can find in the Gallery View of each example.

how do you put together a PBR shader with Luxcore? i don't seem to be having much luck
Just tested the simple test scene in Carrara 8.1 Pro and it worked with the latest LuxusCore beta version, both IPR and Render room with GPU rendering.
where do i put albedo, specular, gloss, normal? what shader do I start with?
Have you taken a look at the link above for the article at CarraraCafe.

Other than that take a look at what is available but as a Start I believe that Albedo is the color channel, specular is the Highlight Gloss Shininess and normals are normally in the bump channel if there is no normal chanel if I recall from the notes from before my computer crash.
I tried a quick test with Mimic Pro for Carrara and a "Toon Generations 2 Female for Genesis 3" figure rendered with "LuxusCore Carrara"
Looks great!
Joe - looks great, what kind of render times were you getting for this?
Thank you for the kind words,
I limited it to 20 sec per frame to render at 1920x1080 @ 30 fps.
Got to say that's great quality for that render time!
It helped that I could use the cartoon character and hair to keep everything low enough to render in GPU only. And it doesn't hurt that the background is a still image added in after effects. ;)
almost ready for release?
The Luxrender 2.0 project, that LuxusCore is built on, is being re-booted:
"...the active developers are currently very busy working on a complete project re-boot with a new web site, wiki documentation, forums, software and more."
It will be ready soon: "The new LuxRender project will be released soon and it will worth the waiting."
Original news forum thread: http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13485
Latest demo video of Luxcore 2.0 alpha-build in Blender:
that. might explain why there is no longer even mac releases of 1.5. 1.6 or 1.7 it was pointed out but seems a lot of the site has issues.
Many thanks for the info!
Here is the new website and forum for LuxCoreRender:
https://luxcorerender.org/

Very early status of the latest version, just a few functions are activated, but it seems that the coders are busy and adding a lot of functions in a short time.
Never had chance to try it, always a bunch of yellow squares in my render windows.
I hope this one will work for me!
Now all we need is for someone to update the LuxCore plugin for Carrara, that would be nice
Well, I hope that SphericLAbs is still here with us, because LuxCoreRender 2.0 is out of alpha and now in beta status, beta 3 has been released, so it is getting closer:
"The v2.0 is now closed in term of features, next releases will just bug fix until the release of final v2.0."
More info here: https://forums.luxcorerender.org/viewforum.php?f=9
Sorry if I sound thick! Does this mean that the Luxus for Carrara plugin will need to be updated to take advantage of LuxCoreRender?
Selina
I think Luxus is not compatible with LuxCore if i recall. It will probably be a new plugin, not really an update.
Here is a copy of the very first post where Sheric Labs talks about both and one does not replace the other but are 2 distinct beasts
LuxCore is the engine that LuxRender 2.0 will be run on. LuxRender 2.0 is not done yet, but LuxCore is at a usable state.
Luxus is the exporter to LuxRender and will remain so. LuxRender and Luxus are in no way obsoleted.
LuxusCore is the direct link to LuxCore.
The biggest advantages are pure GPU rendering and IPR.
Here is a video of LuxusCore doing its thing.

Here is a build that will work till the end of the month. Win64 only at this time.
-> http://sphericlabs.com/preview/win64/LuxusCore.zip
You do not need any other software for this to work, except Carrara 8 or 8.5.
This should be considered experimental. Save often and expect crashes if you use the LuxusCore stuff.
Thanks chickenman - didn't come back earlier as there wasn't anything to report...
Now there is and I quote, "Lux(Core)Render v2.0 includes only LuxCore code and drops all other code (aka classic LuxRender)." - Luxrender website (old)
Thanks for the news.
Seems like the new LuxCoreRender 2.0 is not compatible with the old LuxRender plugin interfaces, so all old plugins probably will not work, like Luxus https://www.daz3d.com/luxus-for-carrara
/EDIT Workaround is to use Luxrender 1.6 as usual, save the lxs file and then render in LuxCoreRender 2.0.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that
released today (denoiser inside )
