Here my vision of the year 2515…
My problem, it is that the surface replicator has an extremely limited number of instances compared to the reality which I would like to show in my WIP.
The title will not be “The childrens of Charlie”, but certainly “The planet of the phantoms” or something like that..
I went through about 10-15 different ideas just doodling around on a pad of paper and I think I have an idea I like and can do. I'm going to do an image of an asteroid miner viewed from inside the cockpit of his trusty old ship.
So far I've got the window and wall roughly modeled and the basic scene blocked out. Lights are just for testing and will all be changed out later. I'm hoping to get through most of the modelling today.
Next up: creating a rough model for the cockpit behind the camera, since it looks like some of the interior is going to reflect on the inside of the window, detailing the cockpit area/control panels, posing my space guy and fixing some textures on him, building him a jet-pack and a cool laser mining drill and designing some holo controls/monitor images for the cockpit displays I'm planning.

Just kicking around some ideas...in the year 2525, all the fossil fuels have been burnt up, the ecology has recovered, cloning has made men redundant. No more soldiers, politicians, lawyers or priests, no technology - the Earth is back to the state of the Garden of Eden.
Then Eve does her apple trick with a male visitor from Alpha Centurii... Oh no, here we go again!
I think like you Roy, it's my dream too…
I don't know your age, but it' s never too late to fight for its ideal, and the picture is a frightening weapon !
I am sure that you will be able to synthesize all that in your entry ! ;-)

I have to run out so I probably won't get any more done today, but here's my space miner with his laser drill. The drill is a pretty simple model since it will be at a distance. The laser beam is part of the model with it's own material zone. Lighting effects for the drill consist of three lights:
1. an ellipse shape light casting a blue glow on the drill and miner
2. an invisible bulb light creating the lens flare
3. a red bulb light creating the "heat" effect where the laser is intersecting the asteroid
The lens flare apparently doesn't work with the window visible between the camera and the bulb so I guess I'm going to have to do two renders and composite it back in at the end. :(

Not to be a stickler, but it isn't 2525. The challenge is for 2515, because we all know that in 2525 Cleopatra wakes up from her cryogenic freeze and helps 2 other women fight to save the Earth.
@SukyL, very cool that it is your daughter's birthday. Should keep you in positive vibes for this one.
I'm already thinking of a second concept. Since my first is unlikely to have any people, I think my second will have many Daz dollies, especially of the genesis 2 kind - and decked out with generation 4 and earlier content. It is party time (actually, I'm thinking of a scene after the party - ouch). All of my favorite future celebrities will be invited.

This one looks almost as the opposite to what Bunyip02 is making.
And be carefully with those replicators. Just look what happened in Stargate SG1.

This one looks promising. And that you made a concept drawing out first, is actually a very good tip.
The miner with his tools and laser beam, looks great. and that lens flare just add that extra touch.
The lens flare does indeed not work trough the window. But I am confident that you will find a way to fix this.

That is an interesting vision.
But cloning ? That takes all the fun out of reproduction. :-)
But if you are right, is the Centaurii girls good-looking ?
Hi Varsel, visions of a distant future is a super theme. Even better, February 15 is my daughter's birthday.
Nice start all! I think I'm getting an inkling of an idea as well.
There is only one thing you can do :-) . Make her a birthday-party.
And just as I was hoping that the storm had past, I can hear thunder outside.
And the weather girl is talking about a new storm tomorrow.
There are 3 future idols that you can count on having to work at a big Valentines Day party in 2515. What will the next morning be like? The suit is the technoabby suit sold here at Daz with the cheetah texture from the Carrara content browser. The drum set is from Zincster, I think, and the tamborines and the lute are from an Egyptian pack. I will customize all that stuff, but what they will really need is your best hangover remedy.
Edit: The figure are the genesis 2 female, and the hair props have had the transmap removed to better work with the toon filter.
Got a few more items knocked out this afternoon. The glowing grids are going to be glowing control panels once I make them in Photoshop and the control panels will have some actual controls and such added as well. Lighting is closer to final but I'm still not totally happy with it. Also need to fix some textures - the metal around the window is bugging me.
Modeled: assorted cables (spline), fuzzy dice (vertex cube and cylinders/Carrara Hair), control panels, overhead monitor, coffee cup.
Also added post-it notes (plane, texture created in Photoshop) and photos (planes plus free stock images)
Attached Images:
The image on the overhead monitor (created in Photoshop, uses a closeup render of the characters face and a render from his point of view)
Closeup of the post-it notes - these may not be readable in the final, so I figured I'd show them off here :)
Closeup of the mug
Closeup of the fuzzy dice hanging from the overhead monitor
Test render of the scene so far (the window is set to alpha 0 for my rest renders because I like seeing the laser effects :) )
Looking superb, when I saw your sketch and the items you were building I thought it was going to be a great combination, and it is !!!!!!
Can't wait to see your final render.
Another quickie from me.
In 2515 is the melting of everything ice going to cause massive flooding issues ?
(I'm posting these quick renders to hopefully get a few people who are stuck getting started into thinking about the possibilities, which are endless)

Nice scene, are you going to have a sci-fi type background as well ?
Something retro might go well with the band.
Would a planet type background from within a building (GIS series has some interesting items) work with what you had in mind, not the same as my "Hair lady scene", but along those lines ?
It happened in 2015
The end finally came, not as the human race had predicted but none the less a terrifying set of events had taken place and it had finally come to fruition.
The only living things left on the planet besides plant life were microbes and cockroaches. Life as we know it had ended but this was surely not the end.
Five hundred years had passed since the apocalypse of 2015 and it is now 2515, the cosmic beings that had started life millions of years previously on this Earth had returned to see how it was developing. To say that they were shocked that there was no development of the species that they had planted some 7,000 years ago was an understatement. Where had the experiment gone wrong?.
There was plant life and water in abundance and the science project that they had seemingly failed prior to coming to Earth was flourishing now, in the present.
They had to do some exploring of the Earth to get the answers as to why the intelligent life had not developed as they envisaged. As they delved into the catacombs of the world in search of clues they came across an old chest, one that had been created 500 years in the past and it held secrets..............................
Wow! This is one beautifully incredible thread of Carrara goodness! I'm really (unfortunately silently) enjoying these contest WIP and Final Entries threads! Keep up the great work, all of you! It's also very inspiring to see such a fine flow of new Carrara discussion forum members getting in and showing off such incredible talent! Bravo!
Not only the cool Carrara techniques, but colors, composition, and camera angles and such... it's really fun to witness the growth of some of you as you work to expand your workflows. Keep up the great work, folks!
Well i think I have a concept now to try my hand at a little basic modeling.
i will try to model a basic Steam Punk Airship for the Chickenman to have a ride in.
My daughter has done some basic concept sketches for me to work from.
Orbiting forests. Asteroid drilling. Extraterrestrial archaeologists. Steampunk airships. Very cool ideas so far! I'm anxious to see how they develop. 3 days and 500 years to go!
Did a little more work while watching TV tonight. Still no actual controls on the control panels, but I added detail around the window, UV mapped and fixed the shaders on the walls, roughed up my asteroids a bit, moved the pictures and made some adjustments to the positions of the cables, added some dirty dishes and a couple books. That last one is my own personal "dream future" - the hope that in 500 years there are still books. :)
Mark
EDIT TO ADD: I also came up with a description for my scene to tie it into the theme: "In 2515 mining of deep space asteroids for water and minerals has made much of the past's resource scarcity a dim memory, but it is hard, lonely, and sometimes dangerous work and slow communication times makes keeping in touch with loved ones difficult."
My cartoon party has another guest. I am saving the cape for when I actually assemble the full scene because I plan to use soft body physics for it. I made a back panel across the shoulders to apply soft-body-attach to for the top row of the cape.
Anyway, this is a simple character creation. I took the G2Male and applied white to all of the body material zones except anything associated with the neck or face. For the boots, I am using the boots from the Daz supersuit. I modeled the belt, bracers, and hood myself. The belt and bracers are just static props modeled around the morphed figure and attached to the skeleton. I made sure at least one morph on each so that I will be able to make any minor adjustments in the vertex modeler in the posed position.
For the hood, I modeled I in Carrara's vertex modeler around the default G2Male in the default t-pose. I used seams and unwrapping to create the uvmap, which although inelegant is a clean map with no overlaps. That is important because I want to use the 3D paint tool to add details. I used the 3D paint tool to paint the white eye covers, the red triangle, and the black head within the red triangle.
As I said, the cape will be added last when I apply physics to the full scene. The test render uses the default toon filter in Carrara. Will consider plugins like YAToon when I get more of the scene assembled.
Edit: The hood was made a G2M conforming figure using Daz Studio's transfer utility.
Bunyip - I hope you will get a chance to make one of your posts an entry. Fun stuff.
Dudu - Have you resolved your replicator issue? I know I have gotten more than 10,000 items replicated, so I'm not sure how many ghosts you want. As EP says, you can replicate replicators (which I did above by having trees replicated on the inside of a wheel, then replicated the wheels on a path around a sphere).
Stezza - off to a fun start as always. like where you are going.
Mark - very polished. nice little details in the control room.
It was brought to my attention that most people do not associate Josie and the Pussycats with science fiction (of those who have heard of Josie and the Pussycats). Allow me to bring everyone up to speed. See attached.
I remember in the early 80's when I was a kid there was a block of cartoons with Space Ghost, The Herculoids and some others that I can't recall and when it was over my friend and I would meet outside and pretend to be Space Ghost. :)

Hello Diomede
Your work is looking great, I mentioned the Sci-Fi background just in case you were not a fan of the original cartoons.
Looks like you are (or someone else in your family is), end result should be excellent as always from you.
As regards my workflow I have some real world stuff coming up which will cut down on what I can do for a while.
Was getting in and doing some cheer-leading while I could.
If I have time before the closing bell sounds will do something, but it is probably best to sit this challenge out, even though the theme was definitely very high on my get involved list.
I often do quick DAZ3D renders while I have an idea, these are for future Carrara scenes, including animation !!!!!

You can replicate replicators if need be.
Not, I think that the replicators replicate themselves… My computer is racing, I don't control it anymore !
Help !!!

Hello MDO2010
There is a freebie Holo Emitter by Imaginary_House at Rendo.
I have used it on the G2F figure in my post http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/50985/P15/#744969
Don't know if that is what you had in mind, but it may give you something that you can work with.
Looking good, love your sketch as well !!!!!
Everyone else keep up the great work.
