I wish that woman across the road would stop screaming all day and night

it is worse than a dog barking

she screams at her partner before he rides his motorbike off in a huff ( keep going mate FFS) then screams at her kids all day

    screams when the fool returns

cannot say anything or she will scream at me

...maybe she needs some ice creme?

    needs counseling

her kids are starting to screech back louder too because she cannot parent and yelling at them because she cannot is teaching them thats the adult response.

know you being punny laugh but honestly I cringe every time she screams, it is stressing me out dreadfully

...had a similar situation in a house where I rented a room in for a couple years.  the couple who owned it would always seem to get into arguments and the wife was definitely the loud one as well. I'd just cringe and stay in my room unless there was a bit of a letup then I would make my escape and go off somewhere for a few hours like the the nearby coffee shop or pub. I can actually feel energy both positive and negative and the latter really gets to me in a bad way.

A major reason why I'll never live in a shared situation again.

Here in this house, the neighbor family in the other half are pretty much quiet, except when the SWAT team is called.  No, that's not entirely true.  They are quiet until the guy finds his voice and yells (women scream, men yell), yells at the wife or kid.  It doesn't usually last long but I can understand why he yells at the kid.  The kid is a screaming crier, of the tantrum persuasion at the drop of a hat.  There never seems to be any violence but there comes a point when he sends her to bed and the tantrum just gets louder for a while until I can hear her sneaking out of bed and running around upstairs then after a while another outburst from the guy and a few more minutes of quiet.  Sometimes I think he yells at his wife/partner whatever.  However, I rarely hear her raise her voice.  But that kid...   I could never put up with behavior like that.  One of the reasons I don't have kids.  No patience with unreasoned behavior.

The SWAT team story is true, long story, told previously.  No violence, just loud domestic quarrel inflamed by nosy neighbors reporting things that didn't happen.  He was home the same night, declared non-violent, and sane.  Just loud.  And the face tattoos didn't help.

the SWAT team (or what ever Australia calls it's equivalent) has rocked up to the house next door to that one twice.

He is very quiet but has mental issues and has threatened self harm with gas cylinders twice, they have made me and the other neighbours leave our houses and the area, very scary, was scared for my cats but nowhere to take them but also nowhere for me to really go except to the mall.

Should I turn the lights out or leave them on?
  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,069

....depends, did you just watch a horror film read a terrifying story (fiction or in the news) that has you scared?  Then leaving them on may be comforting.  Of course that is subject to your roommate's input..

My room is getting cold. I wonder if closing the windows will help or make the room more stuffy.

I miss petting cats. My pets are so fishy that they probably are goldfish. I got Charley at PetSmart last year. At that time Charley was hanging out with some goldfish.

I want to have a little mascot for my writing on my desk, but I think it might cost about 30 after shipping and handling. I thought of doing Kickstarter but I am afraid that might be a stupid use of that platform.

...not really here in Oregon.  Pretty much it's all primarily outside seating (weather finally got nice enough here) and tables are spaced more than 6' apart.  The city has allowed restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs to cordon off the parking spots in the street directly in front for extra seating.   It's been nothing like in some other states I've seen (such as Wisconsin, Georgia, Florida, and California).where there was little if any distancing, mandatory masks, or other precautions taken. Those scenes I saw in Wisconin where taverns were packed with patrons sitting shoulder to shoulder at the bar or standing face to face in groups were scary.

Inside establishments here, tables have been removed, booths taped off, no one is allowed to sit at the bar, and lower capacity rules are enforced.  We still have markets and shops limiting the number of people inside at any one time. Most coffee shops only provide outdoor seating and everything is purchased to-go (refillable travel cups not permitted either).  To go inside to order or use the dunny you must wear a face covering.

Yeah they're taking it cautiously here compared to other parts of the country.  As a matter of fact "phase one" reopening in Multnomah County (where Portland is) was delayed back in June due to a slight increase in cases.  The recent increase may very likely be due to indoor group gatherings such as birthday and graduation parties rather than eating and drinking establishments. .  There is also concern about non essential travel from hotspots outside the state, such as California which has been seeing a large increase in new cases and had to impose new restrictions and closures (bars and clubs and restaurants have been shut down again there) . Some states back east have imposed travel restrictions and quarantines on those travelling from areas where outbreaks have increased. by record levels such as Florida and Georgia.

NY State has relaxed the rules a bit.  NY State has been one of the better controlled states.  NY City got hit hard at the beginning, but the governor clamped down early and it's pretty much under control.  More in control upstate* than in NYC though.  Out here in the boondocks there's very little notice of problems.  However, I did find out that my landlord had a long case of it.

But in this little town, even way out here, people still wear masks in our grocery store.  The local restaurant was allowed to open but from what I hear, people aren't flocking back yet.  I was able to get a ride uptown a couple days ago and went to the Walmart.  Everybody was wearing masks, it was being enforced at the entrance.yes Except for the Amish. frown

*upstate:  "Upstate" is anywhere in NY State outside of the NY City & Long Island area.  Albany is "upstate".  Binghampton is "upstate".  Syracuse is "upstate".  Rochester is "upstate".  "Buffalo" is "upstate".  Although the cities along the flat western bottom part of NY State like Binghampton, Elmira, Corning, Olean**, Salamanca and Jamestown are generally known as the "Southern Tier" of NY

    **Olean:  [OH-lee-ann]yes  not  [oh-LEAN]angry

...yeah we did so well through most of this, keeping the curve low and flat.  We were doing so well in fact that the governor here could send respirators to NYC during the height of the crisis there.

While there has been an uptick here, it hasn't anywhere near the rate seen In places like Florida Texas, Arizona, and California.  Our total death rate is sitill in the couple hundred range and our facilities are far from being overwhelmed, though for us, it still is a concern and some new guidlines were announced including mandatory face coverings.  ALso interesting that in one suburban/rural as well as another rural countiy, the recent increase in new cases has been greater than in the most populous county where Portland is,.even given all the demonstration activity here in the last month.
