It's Friday, Friday! :cheese: And you gotta get down on Friday!

Only one complaint: I'm broke for a week! *cry* *cry* In 2 minutes I spent $1300 :ahhh: :bug: and so it's back to hot dogs and Top Ramen.. maybe splurge on Spicy Kimchi Bowl Noodles... :blank:

    ..BUT..

THIS will be waiting for me in the local store soon! :snake: :snake:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-17-3-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-1tb-8gb-hybrid-hard-drive-black/6339015.p?id=1219661389849&skuId=6339015

My new baby should be ready tonight or tomorrow for in-store pick-up.. this is the first computer I've bought that I won't have to upgrade (lol)! :gulp: 16GB of RAM, i7 4720 quad-core, TOUCH SCREEN :bug: - the works!

4GB VRAM.. this thing could run iRay.. which is a nice touch.

Honestly, for music I don't need anywhere this much raw power, but if I push further back into 3D work it'll;be ready for it - or if I decode to do movie soundtracks for a living (lol)!

Next weekend will be TRANSFER DAY - move everything on to the new system. I expect it to take about a week to move everything I have over and rebuild my studio setup around this new machine.

She has a name - she is Charybdis!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Charybdis

Appropriate as my current machines name is Scylla. :snake:

Anyway, this should last me another 4-5 years and stop me whining about how slow my laptop is! :blank:

*edit* Aaaaaaaaaannnndddd.. it's in the store waiting for me! Going to go pick it up after work!! :cheese: :cheese:

...appropriate name as well considering the recent situation with the one you ordered from Newegg. ;-)

Yeah.. there's a store closer to me, but they don't have that model and I flat-out refuse to see this thing shipped even as far as 10 blocks!

One hour and I bail to call a cab and go get it.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.. :cheese:

You seem just a tad bit excited, TF. I would be excited too. Have fun with Charybdis this weekend. Who needs to eat, anyways?

For those of us who have (or have had) the opportunity to name families of computers, which names or naming schemes have you used?

I've primarily used the Greek Gods & monsters as well as the Jovian & Saturnian moons.

When Fiance's friend built our current machines, Fiance had his system named Samuel and my machine is Angela, from my story.
I don't think we ever officially named our XP machines though.

was Mary queen of Scotts actually Scottish? was just thinking prolly not safe to assume.

Bonny Prince Charlie, is that bonny as in bonny lass?

Perhaps he was thin, lanky, and angular, and a misspelling is in play?

found a statue of him. he was a Stuart. vaguely remember reading something about Stuart. a war or something.

Hmmm... funny, he doesn't look like Stewart.

Bonny Prince would have been Charles 3 of England but couldn't get it together enough to have a successful rebellion. His dad was called The Auld Pretender, he was the Young Pretender to the English throne and a descendant of Mary Stuart and her son James I of England who took over when Elizabeth I last of the Tudors died :)

    the same Mary of Scotland?

...I do that a lot (CAPS LOCK). One key I wouldn't mind if it stopped working .

Only have two "named" systems right now, the Notebook has been named "Little One" for as long as I've had it and the workstation in "Big Sister" (based off my story).

So while I never told anyone publicly about this - a few weeks back my grandpa got the flu, and if that wasn't bad enough broke his leg in a fall at night just as he was starting to get better. Was in the hospital for a while, and while he's been back for some time now... It's affected a lot of stuff.

On top of that, things have been getting financially tight here where I'm working, and soon... It's going to be closed down. The house will be sold, the school will be moved, and I'll be permanently living in the house I've been staying at on weekdays when not working.

I really, really love this place. Crisp fresh air, the pine and oak trees nearby, and just... Having lived here for 10 years. Ever since my dad died, I've been very reluctant to move around or travel, so I wasn't too thrilled with the new place even if I had super awesome internet over there and a really large room all to myself. While I've gotten over the not wanting to head back after my work weekend is over, it now seems that – as early as next month – all this will be coming to an end.

Whether or not I'll be getting another job as nightwatch depends on a lot of things, but it's very likely I'll be jobless for a while – again. I'll really miss this place, and it just feels... With everything that's been happening these past eight months, like my world's been coming crumbling down around me bit by bit, and now it's ready to just collapse all at once. Really feels like it's “too soon”, but this is one of those few times when I literally am just helpless to do anything about it.

How will things go after the change is anybody's guess, but I've never reacted or adjusted well to change. Especially not such drastic and sudden ones.

If you like desktop mode rather than "tile mode", and miss a real start menu, check out StartMenuX It's on sale right now for only $9.99. Well worth it! I put it on our laptop, that had Windows 8 and was upgraded to Windows 8.1. It's great. I have it set to boot into desktop mode. You can switch when you want to as usual.
