This is a script, not a plugin, so it shouldn't...

    But you never know.

I didn't get into the Octane thing, so I don't have that plugin.

  • Well, it wasn't Octane.  Disabled the plugin and still had the same issue.

However, the log made a bit more sense after I switched to Offline mode.  It seems the DAZConnect was causing all the other warnings.  Attached is the part of the log after I ran the script in offline mode.

This mean anything to you? (Attached)

Did you install this thru Connect?

  • Yes.  Tried reinstalling it as well.  Should I try a manual install?

  • DraagonStormDraagonStorm Posts: 748

Yes, I think you should do a manual, or install with DIM. Connect messes with scripts because it doesn't follow the same folder setup that I expect.

  • Success!  Yeah, installing via DIM works a lot better.  lol

  • Thanks for the help!

Glad to be of help :)

So, now I know that it will not work as a Connect download, in case this comes up again.

  • Any advice for "Animation Conversion V4.2 to Genesis and Genesis 2 Female"? I keep getting "V 4.2 is not loaded in the scene" errors, but I'm looking right at her. Not the V 4 for G2F, but the actual old-skool V4.2 without morphs of any kind.

DS 4.9, redownloaded it and installed the scripts and resources manually, working offline, using ready-made V4 animations or by building a simple walk with aniblocks and baking them to the timeline, same results.

BTW I'm asking here because I couldn't find the thread for it. The Search here is horrible. It took me through Bryce and Carrara threads and anything with "animation" in the post.

Be sure that the name in your scene is exactly

    Victoria 4.2

The script is looking for that in the scene and if it can not find it you will get that error. If you know it is Victoria 4.2, and it is not named that you can change the name to Victoria 4.2

Ahhh, it's considering capitalization. V4.2 loads in as "victoria 4.2" and the script is looking for "Victoria 4.2". Renaming the figure with a capital V did fix it.

Perhaps if that had been mentioned earlier in this thread...

    Thanks though.

Load Genesis 2 Female, be sure it's the base Genesis 2 Female by checking the scene tab, and it is named Genesis 2 Female

Apply the animation. If the animation is an aniblock, then be sure to bake the aniblock to the Daz Studio timeline

Load Genesis 3 Female, be sure it's the base Genesis 3 Female by checking the scene tab, and it is named Genesis 3 Female. If you are in Pose and Animate mode (Which you don't need to be), change the mode so that you can start the script).

Start the script. (Yes, both Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 3 Female need to be loaded, with the animation applied to Genesis 2 Female before the script is started)

Would this apply to the plugin for V4 to genesis/genesis 2 which I recently bought ?

I am having trouble getting the script to run which returns " File does not exist'  - is that because the name in the timeline has not been renamed ?

Also - where should the script be installed or can it go anywhere?

    Thanks

    No. Not the same thing.

Did you install using Connect? If so, I have seen this error when installed using Connect. You need to install this product either manually, or with DIM.

    Thanks for the reply

So you are saying I would not have to rename the characters once loaded to Daz Studio ?

I installed the converter using DIM -and directed files to the Daz Studio "scripts folder'. In absence of instruction this seemed the logical place.

I have previously referred this Daz help desk and they advised I must have Genesis installed to the same folder as V4 [ which I did not to begin with ]

Is that advice correct because when I reinstalled G to V4 folder the conversion scripts still did not run ?

If I were to "manually" install the plugin script where should it go and  what is the procedure ?

    Thanks

PS I am a Carrara user so not real familiar with Studio and only use it when I have to as in this case.

...\Scripts\V4 to Genesis 2 Female Pose Converter

    ...\Scripts\V4 to Genesis 2 Female Pose Converter\Resources

This script doesn't even use V4, the pose is applied to G2F and then adjustments are made, and saved as a pose preset.

The Resources folder has .duf and scripts that the V4 to Genesis 2 Female Pose Converter script calls. My guess is the error you got is one of those files. But I can't be sure. Best might be to clear out the log file. Then run the script. After you get the error then check the log file to find out what file can't be found.

Sorry - I don't understand - from the product page it states " These scripts will, frame by frame, take the current pose from V4.2, make adjustments, and then apply it to Genesis or Genesis 2."

This seems to contradict what you said above..

I have tried importing the bvh to Genesis [ hip] which animates but incorrectly as I would expect. Clicking the Animation Converter still brings up the error 'file does not exist' though before that it asks me "do I want to save" [ before proceeding ?] I say no. Is that likely to be a problem?  Also in the browser the thumbnails for the animation converter appear to be errored  which migh indicate installation problem. image attached

I also cleared the log as you suggested before trying again.  I'm afraid the log means little to me though it appeared to stop at trying to load a file from hard drive ??

Dont seem to be able to attach a text file for the log - so details sent to you as private message .

by the way you did not respond to the question - where should the converter be installed ?

    cheers

I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about the pose converter, not the animation converter.

For install, either let DIM install it for you, or open the zip file from DAZ and move the Scripts folder (found in the Content folder) to your Daz library.

load V4.2, be sure the name in the scene is Victoria 4.2, apply the animation to V4.2... (if the animation is from an Aniblock, then be sure to bake the animation to the Daz timeline). Then load Genesis(be sure the name in the scene is Genesis) or Genesis 2 Female(be sure the name in the scene is Genesis 2 Female). And then start the script. Once the script has finished, you can save the converted animation on Genesis/Genesis 2 to what ever format Daz is able to save animations.

Re Pose Vs Animation - Sorry that was my fault for nay making it clear.

Very happy to say i have finally got it working a nd result is good with bvh opened and applied to Genesis in Carrara.

I installed manually to the library in the Users/ Daz directory so I dont know if that made the difference.

To be honest the Studio File system is confusing to me and I understand why I have read some people hate smart content. I'm not thrilled either !!

I moved on from Studio to Carrara some years ago- Despite Studio's development over the years Carrara is still very superior even though Daz doesn't give it much thought these days

Anyway thanks for your help and the plugin - just wish it ran from carrara !

Hey, I have most of the GoFigure aniBlocks that are meant for V4 and M4. So I think I understand that the easiest way to convert would be to buy:

    http://www.daz3d.com/animation-conversion-v4-2-to-genesis-and-genesis-2-female

and use the V4.2 to convert to G2F and save as a Genesis 2 aniBlock, even if the animations were labeled as being for M4, eg soccer animations.

Then I use the new saved Genesis 2 aniblocks and

    http://www.daz3d.com/animation-conversion-genesis-2-to-genesis-3

and convert those new aniBlocks to Genesis 3 aniBlocks, but this time using G2F and G3F.

And this process should work for the Genesis Alive! and Genesis 2 Alive! aniBlocks sets I have wish listed as well. Well, I would skip the V4.2 to G2F conversion step.

What isn't clear is if the V4.2 to G2F conversion process will work for this aniBlock bundle:

    http://www.daz3d.com/the-freak-wrestling-animation-bundle

which uses the Freak 3 based on Michael 3 instead of M4 and V4.2.

    Hi
You are making this motion retargeting process needlessly complicated & $$Costly$$.

If you plan to move existing motions across the Daz generations and all the way up to Genesis3,
and assuming you already own the full version of aniMate 2,you only actually have to buy ONE product.

Only buy DraagonStorms G2 to G3 script.

the rest can be done  with free tools.
Download this FREE Daz studio script
    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts5/mcjcopyposeanim

Load Daz Mike1,2,3,4 G1 or the original Freak
    or Vicky 1,2,3,4 or Posers Jessies,James,Sydney Simon,Alison,Ryan
    Whomever into Daz studio.

Apply whatever cool animation you had saved for any of them
,over the years, wether it was poser PZ2 or BVH or DS "aniblock".

Load genesis 2 (male or female).

In the scene Tab First select Daz Mike1,2,3,4 G1 or the original Freak or Vicky 1,2,3,4 etc etc..... they will be the "Donor"

Control Select genesis 2 Figure in scene tab they will be the "Receiver"

    Run script

Motion will quickly be Retargeted to Genesis2 figure after a few seconds.
select newly animated Genesis 2 figure and save as animated pose for later re use or conversion to aniblok

Repeat as often as necessary to move any old legacy figure animations Directly up to G2

Follow DraagonStorms instructions for G2 to G3 using His/Her script.

    Hi,

I was excited to see that this product existed, given genesis 3's major issues with importing animations.  But it's not working for me at all.  Something is very off with the arms.

I'm working with Brekel proBody v2 sample data, because that's the output I ultimately want to use.  I start with the default T-pose and even give it 12 frames to transition smoothly into the animation, in case the sudden jump was causing an issue.  I tried both with and without limiting joint rotation.  The below pictures show the starting pose and then how it gets off.  The last picture shows genesis 3 alone so you can see how her collar bone is bending down unnaturally, causing her arms to squeeze against her body.

    Any ideas?

Edit - Sorry, didn't think that the defaults would count as nudity.  Genesis 3 is tinted green, genesis 2 blue.

Update: I mainly fixed the arm issue by retargetting a few bones from the default.  Still having some issues, but I'll play around some more before asking for help.

  • Okay, just want to update one more time in case anyone wanders in here with the same issue.  I take back what I said about retargeting, the Brekel bvh does not need to be retargeted in order to be applied to the genesis 2 figure.  However, after importing the brekel mocap to genesis 2, you need to export the bvh, and then re-import it to a new genesis 2.  The G2F using the brekel bvh directly, and the one using the re-imported bvh, will be identical.  But the genesis 2 to genesis 3 animation converter will only work on the re-imported bvh.  I don't know enough about animations or bones to guess why, if anyone else has any insights I'd be curious to hear them.

The conversion still isn't perfect.  Most notably, there's often a significant offset between the limbs, and also some lag.  I think I can work with these, though, with some relatively minor adjustments.

Thanks again for this script!  Even if it's not perfect, it's literally the only solution to get mocap into genesis 3.

Hi I have found the it is best to perfect your G2 animation as much as possible as save of course.

Then load a DEFAULT G3 Female  from your content library do not turn off her limits or repose her
Just run the script and you will get a decent result with only little need for post editing with graphmate& keymate
We used the script for this commercial animated product for G3.

    No, I don't believe so.

First, you have to create offset aniblock. Load V4 and 'zero figure' on her (her feet and toe will point down). Then load G2F (or better the actual character you'll be using in animation) and create new empty aniblock. Then enter 'edit aniblock' mode and make your G2F to fit V4 pose as close as possible (down to the fingers, if you wish). After that save the resulting aniblock as 'V4-to--offset". Clear the scene.

Load your character, apply V4 aniblock on her - her feet and hands will be a mess, so add one more track and put your new shiny 'offset' aniblock into it, mess will vanish :)

    Super clever fix. Thanks!
