That sounds a much better idea :)

    Great product.

That would be great to be able to keep the displacement maps (I had the problem with Phoenix1966 characters) or at least have a warning about it.

Thank you so much it works a treat!
Now my old but beautiful V4 textures look amazing...now if someone could only come up with a way to keep V4 character head morphs and put them on Genesis 2 body my life would be complete;)

    GenX2 V4 > G > G2F, maybe?

I am having trouble with the Generation 4 converter. I installed it with Daz Connect, and it isn't working at all. I know this isn't the right thread, but I can't find a thread on Generation 4 converter. I get this in my log file:

Loading script: D:/DAZ 3D/Studio/Daz Connect Data/data/cloud/1_22869/people/generation 4/materials/v3digitimes iray converter for generation 4/g4t !apply iray materials on generation 4.dse<br /> WARNING: Script Error: Line 90<br /> WARNING: TypeError: Result of expression &#39;oObject&#39; [null] is not an object.<br /> WARNING: Stack Trace:<br /> &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&lt;anonymous&gt;()@D:/DAZ 3D/Studio/Daz Connect Data/data/cloud/1_22869/people/generation 4/materials/v3digitimes iray converter for generation 4/g4t !apply iray materials on generation 4.dse:90<br /> Error in script execution: D:/DAZ 3D/Studio/Daz Connect Data/data/cloud/1_22869/people/generation 4/materials/v3digitimes iray converter for generation 4/g4t !apply iray materials on generation 4.dse

Of course I did not have it as a Daz Connect script on my computer. I'm gonna have a look at what is happening, so far people had no issue but I don't know if they were using Daz connect or not.

Ok done. On my side, no issue with daz connect the conversion script works.

I don't see what can happen, normally if you selected the Generation 4 figure and it is parented to nothing, at this stage (line 90) there should be an object (well oObject should in no case be "null").

Could you try to unparent your figure from anything, select the figure and only the figure via the scene tab, and relaunch the script. The script in Daz connect is absolutely the same as with DIM, and so far it worked for absolutely everybody (as far as I know), so there is no reason it fails. The only reason I should see is a selection mistake. The most probable one is that the figure was parented to something but if it is not the case, let me know, and I'll have a look, but it is going to be hard to see since on my computer it works....

I think I mentioned in the readme the figures must not be parented for this script to work (because somewhere in the script I get up to the parent until there is no more parent, so that you can select any bone on the figure).

Here is what I have in the log file : Script executed successfully: F:/DAZ 3D Libraries/MyProducts/data/cloud/1_22869/people/generation 4/materials/v3digitimes iray converter for generation 4/g4t !apply iray materials on generation 4.dse

You are right! My Michael 4 character was parented to a group. I unparented him and the script worked correctly. Thanks for the quick and correct diagnosis. I don't see anything about this parenting issue in the online readme.

Thanks :) By "similar one" do you mean having the same skin control interfaces (the smart managers) ?

Yes, I like the 3 different preset choices, ;)

:) Thanks. Well I don't plan so far to do something similar, nobody ever asked about that. I already have several projects to finish and 2 updates to submit... Then there will be the September PA festival to prepare... Well, sorry, I don't think I'm gonna have time to do something more for Generation 4 and Genesis.... But I keep this in a corner of my mind...

Is there a way to make this look normal where the face isn't so blown out? I tried the different settings but they don't seem to effect anything? Am I missing something?

Yes there should be a way. You're in a particular case of figure. This is rare and normally this can happen if  specular map of the face is much more clear than the rest of the specular maps, or if it is unmapped whereas the other specular are initially mapped, or was not mapped on the same specular slots as for the rest of the figure.

What you have to do in this case of figure is first browse to folder "02 Gloss Management", and use the "G4T Remove Glossy Maps" (the last file of the folder).

This will solve base issue of a too clear or inexisting map. If the figure is still too shiny, then, in the same folder, click on "G4T Glossy Reflectivity Step By Step Decrease" several times, then on "G4T Glossy Layered Weight Step By Step Decrease" several times, and if still needed, on G4T All Glossy Features Step By Step Decrease, several times too (as long as it is too shiny).

I hope this helps, but please let me know if it solved your issue :)

Does anyone have any suggestions for the eyes, using the Iray Converter for Generation 4 (M4)? They never seem to come out right...almost like a 'film' over the top.

    Hi jakiblue.

It probably comes from the eyesurface. It is set as "Water-Thin" and supposed to mimic the "water" we have in front of the eyes. You can act on 3 main levels once "7_EyeSurface" is selected in the Surfaces Editor tab :

    1. decrease cutout opacity. I'm not totally sure it works if refraction Weight is 1, so I would prior to that set refraction weight at 0.999 and then reduce cutout opacity.

    2. decrease refraction index. A refraction index of 1 should make the refraction "do nothing".

Just let me know if it solves your issue or not.

You're welcome. If, with a 0 cutout opacity, you still have the impression there is a film, then you have to act on the surfaces irises, sclera, pupils. The idea here would be to play with glossy layered weight (less) an glossy roughness.

I ran into this same problem. I had V4 parented to an primative so that I could animate the primative and just do what I needed with V4 so I didn't have to worry about screwing up the animation. Unfortunately, it broke the script. Once I unparented V4, the script worked. Not sure why it would need to be unparented though.

Yes, I'm sorry there is this constraint of not parenting while you set up the skin for Genesis 4 products (but you can parent when you are done with skin set up). You're right I've never explained why so far. This is due to the fact that in order to reach the all the surfaces of the figure I have to come back to the "main node" (to make it simple) of this figure whatever you selected inside this figure (its torso, its forearm, etc, etc). For this I "climb" to the node's parent until there is no parent. And of course, if your figure is not parented the last parent node is the figure itself, BUTif it is parented for instance to a cube, then the script tries to catch and modify the surface of the cube (which has no common surfaces with a skin)... And this fails.

  • Somebody asked on page 1 whether you could apply the gen 4 skins to genesis 1.  Answer is yes, as long as you have the generation 4 UV sets for Genesis.  Load the updated skins, change UV set to Michael4/Victoria 4, and you're all set...

Thanks a lot for mentionning this. I try my best to follow everything around my products but sometimes I don't see everything! Thanks again!
