Thanks for the clarification. I thought people could still submit new projects until the 23rd, but I was distracted by the baseball playoffs, so wasn't reading very clearly. (Canadians throwing beer on babies at a baseball game! What is the world coming to?) My bad. I saw the note in the entry thread so just let me know how I can help when it comes time to tally the votes.
Lol, no problem, bit busy at work, sorry for the late reply
Placed my final version in the entry thread. Ultimately, I had two NPR renders that were combined for the final image. In addition to moving the eyelashes and corneas inside the heads, I discovered a number of elements that were set to transparent that the NPR engine did not handle well. For eample, the male's jacket had helper geometry for the cuffs. The NPR engine rendered it anyway and that was what was causing the problems on the right hand. I was able to morph that back into the sleeve. Some similar issues for the Orion hair a few other elements had to be addressed. Here are the final two renders and the composite. The composite was rendered on a grid so that I could add a bump pattern. For the transparent grainy render, I used some of Ron's Brushes which look like scratches. I only did the diffuse and the background for that render.
Normal life is going on an I've just noticed I have an entry ready and no WIPs...
So, here there are.
The view being done, I need a room.
I created a large restaurant room with Architool.
The window is from archive3D (http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=84c66b70)
I then added tables, chairs, monitors, cups and hamburger (all from archive3d) :
Table : http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=13e3e774
Chair : http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=2f59392d
Monitor : http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=d1bf774e
Hamburger : http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=180ed81d
Cup (I couldn't find it)
I wanted some futuristic looking characters and I decided to see if I could rig some already made characters (because I believe in using challenges as learning experiences).
I went to TF3DM site which has some great models :
Faith from the game "Mirror's edge" : http://tf3dm.com/3d-model/faith-48165.html
Bad request from game "Remember me" : http://tf3dm.com/3d-model/bad-request-48953.html
Charles 2084 from game "Remember me" : http://tf3dm.com/3d-model/charles-2084-47154.html
I also needed two badies :
Russian engineer from game "battlefield 3" : http://tf3dm.com/3d-model/russian-engineer-26581.html
USA medic also from game "battlefield 3" : http://tf3dm.com/3d-model/usa-medic-68956.html
As far as I can tell, all characters are licenced for personnal use and fan art.
For all characters, I borrowed a skeleton from Lorenzo or Lorreta Lorez depending on gender and did enough weight mapping to get a pose.
Render is done with Luxcore.
Output is luxcore linear tonemapping (default output, no post)
I forgot to credit the picture of Gary Oldman featuring Zorg in the 5th element.
I've tried all the tonemapping operators in Luminance HDR and I decided to keep the "Mantiuk08" one.
Here my latest render (pre and postwork).
Postwork made it in Gimp using fake HDR image effect plus
Kudos to Stezza, EvilProducer, and Philemo for getting such great renders entered. Well done, Pimpy. Looking forward to seeing yours added as well.
Dug out my first idea. Here, I applied softbody physics to the curtains and modeled a chair/ottoman set. I also did a few minor details such as editing the glass shader, adding molding, etc. Hopefully, I will get enough time to turn it into another entry.
I;m not going to make the challenge this month, but I wanted to share a few discoveries in ongoing work. I am jus ttyring to render a house, I started by drawing the windows, but they looked too flat. So I drew the moulding at 1/8th inch resolution on the door, and you can see from the screenshots how much better its inner corners look than the windows. The other picture shows a closeup of the door paneling, and as you can see there is a combination of one creased vertex (to make the shadow line) and one smoothed vertex (to let the renderer smooth the shadow around the corners) around the inner and outer edge of each panel. I am still learning how to draw in Carrara, so I wont have a model to share for a while until I master the UVs and LODs, but I thought this modeling detail would be interesting enough to people :)
Diomede,
It has come a long way. The composition is much more sophisticated with some good angles. I like the drapes, and especially the armchair and otterman - really well done. The cat is the perfect center of attention..The eye goes right there and keeps coming back to there -its definitly a center of gravity. You had me wondering where you were going with Rapunzel, but now that I see the final render in NPR it really works.

Appreciate the kind words, Starboardtack. I won't get a chance to work on the cat project any more, so I've added it to the entry thread. Great WIP, Yofiel. I really like how you were approaching the building. I hope you can join some future challenges. I love to see how people work, which is why I litter the WIP threads with all my random doodling.
Voting begins, guys, thank you all for participating.
Entry thread becomes voting one...
No more WIPs or final entries are going to be considered in voting process, sorry about that, good luck ya all
time 's up already? doh >.<
friday night cut-offs are hard, i dont get home from work til after 7pm
I missed it too. I finally had the image, after numerous tweaks, about 1/2 before the deadline, then could not figure how to put in the WIP reference or how to assign a number. Well there is always next time
Starboardtack.
Bummer. What an ovsersight on our part! After the forum change, we really did need to have a quick post on how to enter a render. Too late for this one, but will try to remember to post something before the next challenge. Probably in the sticky thread, where it is easy to link to for each challenge. It is just the same steps as posting a WIP image, but how would anyone know? Will address going forward. It is a dang shame because I really liked the scene you were putting together. I was ready to sign the parchment!
Thanks Diomede,
I tried a number of things, then was about to post a request for directions when I noticed the time had expired. It never occured to me that there would be a problem with posting the entrie itself, Despite this, far as I am concerned it has been a win, win , win. I have learned a lot in an accelerated manner from the spline modeller to manipulating morphs using Fenric's morph area unlocker, plus much more. Now if only I can retain what I have learned.
