So what do you want to do in Gimp? I'm far from an expert, but maybe I can help? The tools are pretty much unknown territory and I suck at painting, find it very hard with just my regular mouse, but layers and filters I like a lot to play around with:)

    blush

As I said, can't compete with the pros regarding post processing, but can show you a couple of tricks I like to use;)

Took myself the liberty of importing one of your renders into GIMP, great render btw, hope you don't mind?

After import, first thing I did was go to the layers tab, right click on the layer and duplicate it. Then went to colors in the menu bar, and chose desaturate to make it black&white. There are 3 options, I chose the middle one. Increased contrast a bit. Next, went to filters/blur/gaussian blur and set the amount to around 25. So now I had the bottom layer untouched and the duplicated layer in b&w and blurred. Next I chose filters/artistic/softglow and set glow radius to 18, brightness to 0.62, sharpness 0.76 and applied the softglow to the duplicated layer. In the layer tab I set layer mode to hard light, opacity to 76. Exported under a new name.

    Original:

    Gimped version:

This was just a quick one, hope you get the picture;) Try this technique using 1 or more duplicates, various layermodes and amounts of opacity and various filters. Sometimes (mostly by accident) great things can happensmiley

Oh and a tip: Render you images as png or tiff, jpegs will not have the same quality, there is always some compression/loss in quality.

Another version where I just toned down the duplicate layer some more (opacity 50):

Had been curious what you might've been up to recently.

I have a dry sense of humor.  Yes, dolphins and tigers are nice, but Chandra the dancing witch!

Don't know if it's her expression, what's she's holding, or the dancing...  Maybe all of it.  Made me laugh.  smiley
