Thanks for the tips on installation.

Below is my first trial of Face Transfer 2 on Genesis 9 male made from the non realistic character portrait.

Need to improve my editing skills of the created materials.

I recently installed version 4.22.0.7 of DAZ Studio, which includes the Face Transfer 2 feature. After installation, I successfully entered the serial number and restarted DAZ Studio as instructed. However, I'm encountering an issue where the "Face Transfer 2" panel is not appearing in the program. I have verified that all other panels, including Face Transfer 1, are visible and accessible.

I am wondering if a complete system reboot is required for the changes to take effect, or if this issue might be related to the update process itself. Specifically, I'm considering the possibility that the latest update's purpose was solely for serial number entry and that the actual utility of Face Transfer 2 might be included in a subsequent update.

Can anyone provide guidance or steps to resolve this issue? I'm keen to use the Face Transfer 2 feature that I have paid for.

    Thanks in advance.

From what I saw, it just uses the same Face Transfer pane. It's just now it works with Genesis 9 rather than 8, unless you force it to use 8 by loading and selecting a gen 8/8.1 figure, in whicb case it uses FT1 from what I read.

Thank you, I got it working! I was expecting a new panel, or at least something that read "Face Transfer 2," as everything otherwise suggests it's still the first "Face Transfer" product.

To anyone who can help: As this product is still in beta, I'm seeking assistance with a couple of issues. I can successfully transfer a face from a photo to Genesis 9, but during the process, I'm encountering two errors related to the "Genesis 9 Starter Essentials." One error occurs when using FT2 for a new figure, and the other error occurs when using FT2 on an existing G9 figure.

The first error reports a failure to load a Genesis figure, specifically pointing out the absence of a female Genesis file at a designated path (refer to Error #1 below). The second error indicates a problem with loading the base material preset, which, as it warns, could result in diminished quality of the image transfer (refer to Error #2 below). Notably, I have installed both "Genesis 9 Starter Essentials" and the "Genesis 9 Starter Essentials Expansion" through DIM.

Error #1: The error message states, "Failed to load a Genesis figure. Could not locate a female Genesis file: data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9 Starter Essentials/Utilities/Genesis 9 Female With Basic Wear.duf." Interestingly, my directory lacks a "Utilities" folder under "C:...\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 9 Starter Essentials."

Error #2: This error message reads: "Failed to load the base material preset. The image will still transfer, but with reduced quality."

    Getting exact same issues

Here's a step-by-step solution that should resolve the issue (it worked for me):

    1. Visit the DAZ3D forum post here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/662091/face-transfer-2#latest

    2. On the post, you'll find an attachment named "FaceTransfer2Content-11-29.zip". Download this ZIP file.

    3. Once downloaded, unzip the contents to a temporary folder on your computer.

    4. In the unzipped contents, locate the "data" folder and its subfolders. Copy these.

    5. Paste the copied "data" folder and its subfolders into the "data" folder where your DAZ Studio library is located. This step is crucial for the solution to work.

By following these steps, you will be adding all the necessary files to your DAZ Studio library, eliminating the missing files error.

Excellent, thank you!  Ironically I did read the Face Transfer 2 update page but somehow the file at the bottom did not register with me.  :)

Although that should be safe there is a small risk that filenames in the official content may not match the beta content, and perhaps a bigger risk that they will chnage during the beta. A safer approach would be to unzip them to a separate folder and select that as a new content directory, then use Content Directory manager to make sure that it came first in the list of Daz Studio content directories. If the content is updated just empty the folder and put the enw files there; once the content is integrated into the release version simply remove the new content directory from DS' list.

  • And ... slightly off topic but potentially of interest to people on this thread who use Photoshop to fix source images and/or resulting mat files, I have just learned how to use Photoshop to quickly remove eyebrows. I can't believe I didn't find this until now. If you're using an older Photoshop (eg, I am using CS6), the interface is not quite as cool as seen in this video, but there is a right-mouse-click option "Fill" that opens a dialog that includes Content-Aware. (Quick research suggests that Content-Aware features were introduced in CS5.) I've been using Content-Aware for other things, but I just saw this usage demo'd in a video just now.

In short, use the Lasso tool to loosely select the eyebrow, RMC and choose Content-Aware Fill (if you have it, or just Fill -> Content-Aware for a less full-featured but still pretty useful version of the tool). Not only eyebrows, but I tried it out and it works with light stubble, hard dark shadows and super bright highlights.

And yes, an eyebrow eraser tool in Daz for G9 would still be handy. smiley

"Purchasing Face Transfer 2 in pre-release means you will get access to the unlimited version in the beta (Public Build) versions, as well as the General Release version which will both be launching in the coming weeks."

False, at least for me, as the "Face transfer unlimited" product is still asking for a serial number that does not exist in my account, so I only have access to Face Transfer 2, not both... IF however, the wording choice "Unlimited version" represents both FT 1 and FT 2, then the product page NEEDS more specificity in the description!

I would love to see a comparison of your different characters without texture. To me the main use of FT2 or FT1 is to generate shapes. I can throw whatever skin I want on the character. I want to see that characters generated by FT2 are in fact obviously different in shape. (FT1 results are just nightmare fuel)

Here is a set I did with two of my rarely/never-used source images. I picked two guys who are very different in appearance. The resulting images are just the FT2 shapes on a stock G9 figure - no other shapes, including Base Masculine. (The textures also are just the untouched FT2 base result.)

Purchasing FT2 gives, once th serial number is entered, an unlimited number of saves for FT2. The original FT is a sepaarte product, nothing granted by an FT2 license applies to it.

Not bad for a one click solution. I hope there will be a add-on for fixing the buccal area and weaker chin/neck definition.

    Thanks for the comments, CHWT.

I agree, it would be great to get some morphs to fix the buccal area and weaker chin/neck definition.

There was an addon for the first version of the Face Transfer, so maybe some brave PA will create a new one.

  • i have to admit, that i did not bother to install the beta to play around with FT2 yet.
    but i wonder...
would one not be able to use "usual" morph packages on these morphs?
i am still using G8 most of the time and my G9 library is limited,
but i would assume, that there will be a lot of morph packages around like it is already the case for G8.
would one really need a specific FT2 morph package?

  • ArtiniArtini Posts: 9,462

Yes, I am using many of morph packages for Genesis 9 with Face Transfer 2,

but if it will appear specially designed morphs for improving FT2 conversion,

    I would not mind.

The generated maps for Genesis 8 Female is much worse, than the ones for Genesis 9 Female.

The next improvement would be to have a conversion utility of Genesis 9 materials to Genesis 8 materials.

Thanks everyone for posting your experiments! From what I can see, FT2 does do a better job with the profiles, but they still look off to me - noses very prominent and lower face still kind of squashed by comparison. So I'm looking forward to seeing the helper morphs that PhilW comes up with. It would be reall useful if one had a front and a profile picture of a reference person and could re-create them in FT2. Then, we could compare the actual profile as well.
