    When you have a good side and a bad side, you can sometimes mirror the good side with Photoshop. I've done it with both the source image and the resulting mat file. The image has to be close to perfectly head-on though.

    Yes, fixing the source images in graphic editor is the next step for me to try,

    but it is faster to just generate / try another image...

    so I applied some morphs to improve the shape of the generated face.

    OK, I promised hair problems ... I've run into two types so far:

    1) Bent Hair. There are some G9 hairs, like this Protostar hair, which work fine on a stock G9 figure but have the weird bend you can see here on the reddish hair when you apply it to a FT2 figure; the blondish hair in the back without a bend is the same hair applied to stock G9. I've tried this hair on multiple FT2 figures and gotten this problem; and I've run into this with multiple hairs.

    2) Fitting converted hairs. "Yeah, it's a converted hair," you're going to say. To which I reply, "Yes, but it works fine on stock G9 ... why the enormous fit issue on FT2 G9 figures? Ideas anyone? I routinely use converted pre-G9 hairs on G9 and I've never had problems with them like this. This example happens to be Rialto, for G8 and converted to G9 with the RSSY tool, but it's something I'm repeatedly running into. Just to note, if you autofit this hair (rather than use a converted hair) you don't get this problem, but then you lose out on the benefits of using a converted hair.

    Not that you can tell from this head-on shot, but I was experimenting with using a saved ManFriday morph of a stock G8.1 male with 100% Face Transfer Shapes male applied. Yes, if you apply a lot of that, you'll get G9 eye weirdness, but unless you look really closely, it actually overdoes the chin and lips before the eyes get really wonky. I think I have something like 8% of that applied here. And no, it's actually  not the cause of the overly pink portion on the lacrimal area; that's there even with none of that morph applied. I don't know if it's going to be the same cause, but I ran into that with FT in G8 and I just have to find my notes on what I did to get rid of it.

    RSSY Hair Converter does a poor job very often, in my opinion. I have numerous complaints in the commercial forum. Often autofit works better. The converted hair doesn't adapt to morphed characters well at all. You say you haven't had a problem with stock G9 characters, but that has not been my experience at all. I've attached sample renders of how poorly the RSSY conversion of Rialto Hair fits core G9 male characters. I think the problem you have with fitting converted Rialto Hair to FT2 characters is no worse than the way the converted hair fits core G9 characters. The fault is not with FT2; the fault is with the converter.

    And for comparison, I added a render of Rialto hair for G8M autofit to Julius 9. It looks just fine.

  • I returned the RSSY hair converter because I was seeing those issues on stock G9 too. When I went back to look at the commercial thread more closely, I noticed it in almost all the renders people were putting up, usually masked by the angle of the render. A sort of "I'm wearing a wig" effect. IIRC, someone hinted at it and the response was "don't like it, return it".  So I did. The examples here may be more extreme than you get with a base G9 figure, but the same problem definitely already exists.

    What I do now for older gen hairs on G9 is this:

    • Have an older gen character in the same scene, hidden
    • Have a G9 clone of the older generation in the same scene that follows my G9's morphs, also hidden
    • When I make a posing change, export the clone out then load it as a morph on the older generation figure
    • The older gen hair is loaded on the morphed and hidden older gen character

    A bit more convoluted, but very good results. I keep template files with the hidden shapes/figures set up to allow me to use older gen hairs, clothing and hierarchical props when starting a new G9 character.

    I wish I had returned it. Knowing the history of the PAs, I expected support to fix the problems, but I just got comments like "it won't work on all hairs", "we don't see the same problem".

    I have just installed Daz Studio beta 4.22.0.14


    and can confirm that it is still works on my computer with Face Transfer 2.

    Fantastic! I never actually saw this in progress until today, when PaulaWP did a wonderful presentation on it, showing off some of these amazing creations! Bravo to the lot of you doing this stuff. Really, Really freaking Awesome!!!

     

    There was a wonderful Daz Studio 4.22 Community Workshop webinar (free) at Digital art Live today. I got to show some new animation work, Paula showed us how great Face Transfer 2 is, Slater was Slater - always fun, amazing and full of wisdom, and we got to see a bunch of community Daz Studio art along with a fun discussion around the new features of 4.22

    I love these things! We get to get together and hang out and talk Daz Studio! So Cool!!!

    Just tested using Face Transfer 2 on Genesis 8. Materials are not the same quality as for Genesis 9...

  • I am really enjoying this tool.  Only problem is the cleanup of eyelashes.  It projects the eyelashes on the face and when you close they eyes you can see the eyelashes painted on the eyelids.  Probably have to clean that all up in Photoshop or maybe the AI will be able to remove them from the textures in a future release.

    For seriously intended characters, I clean them up in Photoshop. I also remove eyebrows and touch up stains and highlighting as needed. That said, I haven't really dug into touching up FT2-sourced mat files yet.

    FT Ultimate showed up, but that's not FT2

    I wonder if Ultimate would be better for me anyway right now, since I cannot use Genesis 9. Only 8.1 and earlier.

     

    Ideas?

    I think you you mean Face Transfer Unlimited  ,and if you are only using 8.1 and older  ,it should make you happy ,along with PhilW's add on for it,.Face Transfer Shapes

    There are different considerations to the original Face Transfer, as I mentioned in that class. I used it virtually exclusively from late 2021 into this spring, before dabbling in various Franken-configurations, combining products while experimenting with G9. FT2 is for G9, so if you're staying put at G8/G8.1, original Face Transfer + Face Transfer Shapes would be the Face Transfer option. There are several good threads here in the forum, back a few pages now, on the subject of FT and the other products (like FaceGen) that are out there. I could gather up some links if you want to see more.

    Surely people can't be misled about FT capabilities twice?  The only way I'd consider spending money on this is if it fixed its depth issues by loading side profile shots too.

    Even those promo shots are really bad: obviously the skin texture can look great at the right angle/lighting as that's just a reuse of the photo itself... but all of them have quite striking, glaringly obvious errors that wouldn't be on display if the tool could make accurate models. Why would they show off examples in which the eyes are all so much larger in the models than in the photos, and all slightly the wrong shape, and with eyebrows that are the wrong size and the wrong angles and so on...? I still see the value in the tool, because it grabs the textures and (based on the promo shots) makes a close enough approximation of the model that it's saving a lot of time over sculpting it manually from a different model... but none of the promo examples actually look like the people in the original photos. Given that the product images are presumably showing off the best that it can do, I don't see how anyone could be "misled" by them: FT2 is obviously incapable of making 3D versions of faces in photos with any consistency. It looks as though it can significantly reduce the work involved in doing that, though, so I might purchase it if I ever need to model real people.

    [Edit] To say that it can't turn a photo into an accurate 3D model is not to disparage it: neither can a human being do that, and I doubt if AI will ever be able to do it either. There just isn't enough information in a single front-on image: the length of a nose or the extent to which cheeks or chins protrude is not always going to be visible from shadows and other depth cues... there are times when we really need the profile to make 3D sense out of the front-on shot. I still don't understand why it isn't at least producing 3D models that look correct from the front (the eyebrow might turn out to be wrong from the side, but that's no reason to make it look wrong from the front when the correct shape is visible there in the photo), but I suppose the algorithms for guessing at the depth info must somehow do a worse job when they're forced to keep things perfectly consistent with the photos...?

    I see that Face Transfer 2 is now 'officially released' and have a question.

    In the product description it says the following:

    The trial version allows you to create three saved figure shapes without the watermark, while the unlimited version lets you save as many figure shapes without watermarks as you like

    Will I be paying $35 for a trial version?
