Here is a tesf of my entry.

The stanger got off his horse and the town bully noticed there was something different about him but coudn't placeit only seeing his back and all.

He call out to him "Draw Boy".

"I said Draw BOY, What are you Chicken?

And the stranger slowly turned aroudn as the words hung in the air.

Slowly saying and what if I am.

I know I have to fix a few things yet and finnish adding everything.

That's great Chickenman. My only critique is that it looks as if maybe some of the people aren't on the ground. The same with the stage and horses. If you are using a terrain, go into the editor and set the terrain preview resolution to the same as the render resolution. It should be easier to accurately place your people that way.

Also, if you want dust or anything, you could play around with a volumetric cloud or two. Just dial down the brightness a bit, and change the color to a brownish color. The amount of brightness can vary by scene due to lighting. The color should be similar to the dirt on the ground, but different enough so that it doesn't completely blend in.

Just an FYI for anyone looking for sets- I am not sure if it is because I am a Platinum Club member or if it's a regular sale, or some combination of the two, but alot of the Old West buildings are showing up as on sale for $1.49 for me right now: http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=old+west

I've used most of these in Carrara and they work fantastically pretty much "out of the box."

I loaded up the sheriff's place today and it put me in a loop asking for a UVcheckerboard.jpg

I couldn't get out of the loop, I even made a jpg file and called it the right name to try and trick carrara but didnt work.

Lost my whole scene as I couldnt save the car file as the loop just kept asking for the jpeg - so beware.

Noticed that and still adding some more people. May play with the volumetric clouds like I did for the space one.

Really weird.  And Chickenman said he had issues with the Saloon Interior too.  I was playing around yesterday with a scene and had them all loaded (saloon, mercantile, undertakers, sheriff and bathhouse), plus interiors with no issues at all other than having to manually load some bump maps after they loaded.

Well, I'm imaging my image taking place in the Western US around 1870.  The average hourly wage at the time went from 0.15USD - 0.30USD and $1,000 then is roughly equal to $20,000 today (I found a range from about $18,000 - $25,000 searching various sites for inflation adjusted numbers).  So $1,000 isn't that small a reward if he's just a cattle rustler or train robber, although it might be low if he's a highly wanted killer.

So many great projects under way.  I have the start of a 2nd idea that Misty mentioned.  I exported a genesis model as an obj.  I then selected just the face polygons that corresponded to the face shading domain.  I copied those, inserted a new vertex object, and then pasted the face.  Back on the genesis model, I applied an alpha to the face shading domain.  Can add some wires and electronics to the head later.

    Hi Chickenman,

This image is really coming along fantastically so far.  I hope you don't mind me offering a small critique?

The composition seems a little off - all of the lines in the image are pointing toward the far figure so that's where my eye goes first, but the Chickenman who is the largest and closest figure in the scene is off to one side and looking toward the corner of the image makes me want to look off to the left; his gaze and the lines of the building behind him draw attention out of the image.  The tension between the two is not very pleasing compositionally.  I think that you should make the Chickenman character very clearly the focus by moving him much closer to the camera, putting him on one of the thirds lines and maybe turning him slightly toward the camera, and then shifting the other center characer a little bit to one side so he is not right in the "sights" of all the lines in the image.  Moving that back character a little to one side also breaks up the way the rock formations are echoing/precisely matching his shape, which is a little distracting. Then you have the gaze of the chicken man and his size and nearness drawing you into the image, then you follow the lines and brightness back toward the other character.  This also has the advantage of establishing a clearly broken up foreground, middle-distance and background in the image. There are many things you could do with this, but something like that would be my suggestion.

I drew on your image a little in Photoshop to show what I mean; the first attachment shows what I mean about the lines, the second one I just shifted the two main characters a little to give you a better idea of what I an getting at.  This is just my opinion obviously so take it or leave it as you please. smiley

No, I'm the one who is sorry - I got that you meant it jokingly, I just get wrapped up in weird little research tangents sometimes and thought the random trivia about the value of a dollar back then was more interesting than it really is and probably came off as too serious. laugh

MDO thanks for the suggestions I am still working on composition so the help is beneficial.

I have it rendering again so will be ready  in the morning.

I had changed the camera point of view slightly but did not really notice the lines all basically going to the same vanishing point.

I will see what it is like tommorrow and post it as well.

Looooool  did a search for old west saloon, seeing images of the daz saloon.  too funny.

this challenge is turning out to be educational.  all i knew about the west was the hollywood version.
The west was all about the search for gold.
