Well, I get some wishlist notifications from other sites, and the 50% off there is usually cheaper than 70% on Daz. If they continue rising prices (and doing other unappealing things), I might finally break and start shopping elsewhere rather than on Daz.

I like my smart content and the convenience of DIM download, but there's only so much I'll "pay" for those.

Ok. So, I do shop other places. I've done so for years. And my experience is, there are some very nice items on other stores. No lie! Some beautiful work being done there, excellent quality. I've bought from those other stores, and I'll do so again! Yet, Daz gets the bulk of my content dollars. I won't dissemble. Price is the main reason. I'm a self-described cherry-picker, a sale sniper. I go for the very best deals. Daz taught me to do that. And over the holidays, it was the same. When I can snag a holiday item and 2 G8 pro bundles off LD for $15 (which I did during this holiday sale), why am I going to go buy a single outfit at another store for $6? Because I like it a lot! Sure, I'll buy the outfit from the other store, but it's usually when there is a drought in DazLand. And the other store has got more expensive, too. I can prove it in my receipts. TL;DR: Shop at other stores, get good stuff, pay more!

Speaking for myself, I buy sparingly from "the other store" and almost everything I buy there is either something they have that Daz doesn't (eg, I bought the extensive collection of horse coat colors available there, and some of the really great bird collections) or pose sets offering something off the beaten path. They are pricey for what they are. Daz is still the best deal on a good sale day.

I'm not sure I really need to buy that much more stuff anyway but - yeah - it's an addiction.

My last comment is, BTW, very harsh and cynical. It's arguably anti-artist and maybe not very nice, but it's the truth! A very well-regarded long-time PA of my online acquaintance has said, Daz is real money, the other site is hobby money. I've listened to other current and former PAs when possible, and experiences vary. I know all that and I factor that into my position. Sometimes I buy the items even when I know the price is objectively high because I want the items, it's good for everyone and I can afford to do that. I'd like to do that more, but then Daz has a big sale and here I am giving Daz all my content money in exchange for a veritable mountain of content. Other stores simply can't do that. IDK. It's complicated! frown

Finally, and I want to make sure folks here know this, the artists at the other stores are just outstanding people! One can contact them directly, they reply, they're friendly, they're helpful, sometimes they go above and beyond expectations on their own! It's the difference between a big box store and a boutique. I think that's the best way to think about it. enlightened Some of them are PAs here and I've contacted them. They answer! It's so cool. cool Also, I encourage everyone here to at least visit the other sites and buy something from someone there. See what they're doing! Competition is good for everyone! angel I'm done now. Thanks.

i have been on this poser/DAZ thing since it all began. I owe my allegiance more to the memory than the current reality. I bounce back and forth. I buy what I like, pretty much overall, but being here at DAZ lends itself to picking up A LOT of things you may not otherwise buy, just from the basis of the pricing. Why would you pass by a bundle for $5 if you can afford to do so, at least if it has a couple items you can use. There is no question that DAZ sales far outweigh anything anywhere that I have seen, other than free is free. This last sales gave me a ton of products, many free, but I did spend quite a bit overall. I got $2546.33 worth of product in return for $155.09 spent, which included a Premiere Membership purchase of 1 month. That's 94% OFF !!!
This gave me 2 each of the coupons as well. I supposemy spend of $155 is lowball compared to many here, though, but almost $100 more than what my average was a month.

Missing the Punches feels.... well... like a punch to the gut lol.

Punches got a bit tiresome in the end. I mean, there's only so many items that one can get to end with only spending $ 1.01, especially when in the end it's not sure that for the maybe one or two products one might really want the punches will really make enough of a difference wink

...I wish they would  go back to the original token values where 8 tokens got you 40% off both Daz-O and PA items. I've pretty much run the course of Daz-O items that interest me so I rarely ever use more than 5 tokens now.(which still gives 25% discount).  Using 6 or more is diminishing returns as they are worth only 2%, 2% and 1% respectively coming to an additional total of 5% for PA items.  By themselves those three together would be worth a total of 18%

I think a number of PAs may have been unhappy about having that high of an extra discount on their items, especially new ones.

  • Today's sale isn't so bad when you consider the 50% off 5 wishlist items stacking discount. I'm seeing slightly better prices on the Holiday new releases than when I had full Premier punches and all the other jazz, and the same prices on artist items from those days where you got 20% off a large cart. Granted, it's with two buy-ins and the selection is smaller, but it seems tempting for those interested in something from each set of new items and who have 5 items from the Holiday new releases on their wishlist. When you think about the buy-ins to get Premier punches too, I don't think it's too shabby - just not as store-wide as the big sales are.

To be honest, with the amount of shopping I do here nowadays, tokens are virtually nonexisting in my world wink

I've done a re-organization of my libraries over the holidays, and now have to actually look at each single asset I own. Am currently working through the characters. I do a quick render of ALL of them, same lighting, same pose. Man, this is insanity. I have SOOOOO many of them, how have they accumulated so much? And so many of them are basically the same character! This really put a damper on my spending (maybe even as much as the Premier shenanigans did). Owning that much makes the organizing a task all of itself!

I've also noticed that DS really gathers allllllll the morphs it can find, even those manually installed in extra libraries. I will start putting turbo content to good use.

I haven't logged my characters yet, although I need to get to it.

Right now I'm still working through props. Wow I have an insane number of sofas. I will never have a use for all these sofas, seriously, but so often i buy an environment because it has one little prop I can't find anywhere else (Russian nesting dolls, for example) and end up with everything else, and I feel like I really ought to keep track of it in case someday I need a sofa (or whatever).

But man oh man I will never use all these sofas.

Or THAT one sofa, with that special look you need for the scene, that has to look exactly as you imagine it, for the scene to work properly... and even after going through all those hundreds of sofas in your library you can't find a perfect match...   wink

I don't even own a sofa in real life devil

I think it's one of those things people model first as easy to make using primitives then challenging to make later when doing deep buttoned upholstered versions

By comments elsewhere it looks as if they are tomorrow's releases, so I expect they will get their specials tomorrow.

Would be really funny if it involved some sort of wishlist discount (before 6th) as I already wishlisted some of these :P

Checked that box already! I needed a 70's hand-me-down abomination for my girl's flat. All those sofas in my library, and I still had to buy a new environment set...just for the sofa.

No love on the stacking for me, alas... just not aligning with the stuff I need. That 48 hour flash sale ought to do some nice things to LD for the next couple days, though, so maybe I'll get lucky there.

  • TorquinoxTorquinox Posts: 3,529

I'm not complaining, but I do find the current promotion a bit vexing. Normally, around this time, holiday sale ends and customer appreciation begins. In that, our spending for the last year is assessed and we get a % off on all purchases that stacks on top of whatever else is going on (with usual exceptions) - And that is quite obviously not what we're doing now! As for this sale, I think it has potential, especially if LDs roll well. Unfortunately, I am unable to participate. In fact, my procurement on all sites is temporarily frozen. Nothing to do for it! Gotta clear the holiday bills now. Spent quite a bit more than usual on real life stuff! It was well worth it, too. smiley
