At least we know what and why and how to avoid it. I just hope there are not another 50 people out there in the world who delete the lights, whatch the program crash, curse studio and then curse me...

Yes I been moving over to IRay also, that's why Khory's lights got my attention.
I think I will let Paolo know, (it's only fair) so he can fix Reality causing the crash for users still wanting to use it.

Now that the problem has been found, hopfully Khory can get back to getting praises for her product:)

I filed a bug report for this myself on Paolo's bug report system. At least that way he can track it.

It's in his Mantis at http://preta3d.com/mantisbts/view.php?id=1827 -- I think, if you have an account in his system, you can add notes to that yourself to let him know that you're also experiencing the issue.

I sent him a message in the new Reality Chat tread he has going on Daz Forums, and he already responded.

Laughter.. I don't think it is a big secret exactly. Well one thing I have been working on I actually can't talk about. But I suspect the next to the store will be emissive shaders. I am SO procratinating finishing them. All I have left is a PDF for them (because I worry people don't understand how emissive stuff works) and I am on page 4 and just can't....make...myself...type.. Blarg. And the thing is I'm not 100 percent convinced it will sell well even though I keep using them myself on other stuff. And then some lights I can't talk or lights for paler skins. Not sure which would be in the store first there. Because I always find pale skins a pain to light myself. And after that I have a set to texture for a friend, and about 5 other half finished things including flooring shaders and a pose set. I really need to figure out a way to work more!

That's in the Art Studio section, in case anyone wants to converse with Paolo. He checks in often (daily)

Khory, looking forward to your next product. The Emissive Shader sounds good! Keep typing....

Just used your lights again last night, Khory! Second time was much quicker for my old brain! It turned out beautifully.  Just hit me on the back of the head the next time I say I have to wishlist one of your products so I don't miss out on the good price again, please?  Well worth it worth it, though!  I just uploaded my latest with your lights and EJ Graciana to my gallery and I'm very happy with the results.  yes

I love that Fastbike1. I really love portraits that have dramatic lighting like that.

A bit of thread necroing, but I just want to offer another big thank you for this product!

Since I got them in early March I've used them for almost every render I've done. Good thing I'm not more productive than I am, or you'd be spammed with notifications of product useage.wink Often I just use them straight out of the box, but it's also fun to play around with them, just using them as a starting point for the character lighting. Either way, it's a huge time saver over having to fiddle around from scratch with lights on my own and it of course gives better results too.

I love these too and even if I don't use the whole set at once I frequently find myself using various parts.  Very very handy indeed

I am always thrilled to hear a product has not lost it's luster! Sorry it took me so long to pop in but I was doing all the stuff for a shader set submission today and I don't just love that final step so I have to make myself focus a bit more than normal.

@Khory, I'm always late to the new products parties. blush  I just bought this light set and I so appreciate how easy you have made it to illuminate a character: add a camera preset, add render settings preset, add a light preset, add light render settings preset, add your background prop and choose a color. Render and done! I'll be using this set whenever I can!

I have a dumb question though. The light sets I've purchased in the Daz store have provided both a left side light and right side light, depending on what side you want to illuminate. Unless my download was corrupt, I only see a left side light and it's corresponding render setting, but no right side light with it's render setting. Am I missing something? If not, what is the easiest way to tweak your lights and render settings to illuminate the right side of the figure? Do I just rotate the focus 90 degrees?

Full body camera, G3F with Charlotte face morph from Faces of Europe, Beautiful Skin material, Defender props and poses, Alicia armor. Rendered in 31 min. (CPU only):

Same as above except this image uses lights #13 (I think the previous image was light #2 but I'm not sure). This took 1 hour and 39 min. to render with CPU.

I suspect the content library icons may be a bit misleading. See attached. The L stands for Light (not Left). RS is Render Setting. You need to look at the icon, which will generally show whic side is being lighted. Bear in mind that left and right refer to "your" left and right, not the character's left and right. There are also light setups that are more fornt-center lighting.

    Does this help?

Thanks for responding and clarifying @fastbike1. I appreciate your help. Let's go with my left side/my right side.

There are lights in this set then that focus on lighting my right side of the figure, and there are lights that illuminate the front-center. But I haven't found lights that focus on the left side of the figure, as there is always a shadow on the figure's left side. Does that make sense?

If you see lights that focus the lighting on the left side (that isn't also a front-center), please let me know which numbers they are. Otherwise, my question is how best to rotate the lights to light the left side, with a shadow on the right side?

    Thanks again!

I think I understand. I also don't think I was completely clear. There aren't mirrored sets of lights. You can see this pretty clearly if you toggle the preview light off (Ctrl-L on PC). You can also get a pretty good idea by zooming out in perspective view. It sounds like you've generally figured that out. So to answer the first part, there aren't really any "left side" lights. I'd suspect that Khory is right handed (the percentage bet) which generally leads to unconscious favoring of that side.

The easiest way to light the left side, in my opinion, is to select the Light Focus (click it in the Scene tab), then rotate the focus on the Y axis (Parameters tab). Watch either through the camera or in perspective. This will throw the backlight off depending on the specific preset. You can also rotate the character, but I'm pretty sure this will also definitely mess up any backlight or rim light setups.

EDIT: I've done some more poking around. The easiest way to change the lighting from right to left or vice versa is to first unparent the Rim and fill (Guidelight 2 for Light 10) lights if any. For the Rim light, change the sign on the X Translation and Y rotation. For the fill light, just change the sign on the X Translation. Then rotate the Light Focus as described in the previous paragraph.

Here are two (new) examples.  The second image has the 3 lights in Light 10 changed as described in the above paragraphs.

Maybe Khory will pop back with some better advice. Still an awesome light set.

@fastbike1: Yes, you have been incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for these instructions to mirror the lights. I had "mirror" on the tip of my tongue but just couldn't get it into the comment--I could have saved us both a lot of typing! :)

    Thanks again!

    Glad to have helped.

I was moving the Rim and Fill manually (and grumbling) when I actually said "Mirror, idiot" out loud. I then just swapped the sign on the translation/rotation. Makes the whole thing much more viable.
