'Nother complaint:  For at least two years I've been noticing that my eyesight is getting worse.  Gradually getting dimmer, and more blurry.  I got a new prescription and glasses last year which helped the blurriness for a while but not the poor night vision.  Now in the last 6 months the deterioration has accelerated.  I see rings around bright lights, the world looks like I'm viewing it through cheesecloth and I can barely read road signs anymore even by looking through the very top of my progressive lens glasses.

Of course I went to the eye doctors (a couple of them) and it's confirmed to be cataracts.  Yellowing of the lens, developing of semi-opaque spots in the lens and now development of little bubbles on or around the lens.  I've known this for a couple of months and the surgery is planned for the 11th (left eye) and 18th (right eye) of October.  I'm hoping this works out OK and everybody says it will, but I'm probably not as relaxed as I should be.  I worry that my insurance company will screw me.  I worry that my doctor could be incompetent, I worry that the problems of a fixed focus lens will be a major setback in my life, especially for close work on the computer or reading.

But everybody says my far focus seeing will be great and the world will seem much brighter again.  If so, I'm really looking forward to being able to see the stars again.  I haven't seen them clearly for many years.

installed my new 2gb nvidia.  was a lil nerve racking.

discovered the 2 usb3 ports are in the back, the 2 easy to access usb ports on the front are usb 2.

and iggy came by to visit, barking at my window for some attention, ... and a milkbone.

i should wash my windows >.<

I went to Starbucks for a cheese stick and a refill this afternoon.  They did not ask for my name but they still put my name on the cup.  Maybe I took a drink from another customer who liked their coffee the way I do and have my name. Wait what are the odds of someone else with my first name to get an ice coffee the way I like it?  Granted I do not have a common first name.

Complaint:  why does Apple insist on screwing around with color schemes every time they update iOS?  My daughter upgraded my phone to iOS 10 and now the clock app is all white on black, the icons at the bottom have a distracting light background.  It's hard enough for someone with visual issues to modify this stuff, why do you have to mess it up?

    I agree with that...

First off, it's Apple, so they know Far more than you what is good for you, so you better agree or you're not cool.

    Screw what your eyes say.

Despite that, yeah, I hate white background with black text... It hurts my eyes and I don't care what "studies" say, because I can't find one article that quotes a source for their studies (overwhelming pro white background) that is either: not done in the late 80s/early 90s, isn't about printed text, or quotes a actual scientific study or university finding... Lots of articles saying "studies" show blah, blah, blah, blah... But nothing actually mentioning modern LCD monitors or tablets...  Lots of people complaining about white/backgrounds, but I suppose if "studies" say my eyes are not hurting, them my eyes must be up to something and trying to trick me into believing them for some dark nefarious reason.

Admittedly, not paying attention to anything my eyes say might be a good idea, considering how they've been screwing me over for over half a century.  I mean, 20/5000?  That one's not even trying.

My eyes and my brain don't get along well... They argue about what is real a lot... Usually the hands have to get involved and they whack the head or poke the eyes to break it up... It's a mess... Don't even get me started on the pancreas and the big toe.

"Ereshkigal"... "Double Frappamachiato latte for Ereshkigal...? No ancient Sumerian goddesses of the underworld order one?... Ereshkigal?"

Thats probably not your name... But it sounded cool at the moment.

    That moment passed.

Did you stick around to see if you came around to pick it up... What if there are two of you? You could be part of a secret cloning project... It was very common in the 80s... You might be the last two left... Then the other you would be really lonely...  Or she could be deranged and trying to track down the last of her clones...

    Hmmm... Proceed with caution.

...MS seems to have taken the same page from Apple's playbook with W10.

PCIe currently, as far as I know, has three versions. They get faster as the number increases, but they are backward/forward compatible - if you put a PCIe x card in a PCIe y slot it will act as if both are the lower of x and y. (So PCIe 3 card in a PCIe 2 slot will run at PCIe 2, PCIe 2 card in PCIe 3 slot will run as PCIe 2 as well.)

..so then I could put a 1070 or 1080 (once everything was ready for rendering in Iray) in my current system.  How much of a performance hit would that cause?

Still would need to upgrade the physical memory to 24 GB because of how Iray mirrors VRAM, but that would b far less expense than having to build an entirely new system right now.

  • Subject to space and  PSU yes. For Iray I'm not sure it would make an enormous amount of diffrence - it would slow the initial transfer of the scene to the GPU, but on complex scenes that's a minor part of the total time taken.

Sorry to hear that. Feel better.

...the Pascal GPUs tend to be a bit more power efficient than the Maxwell Generation at 180 W peak vs the 980 TI at 250W  Basically it would put a about the same load on my PSU as my old Fermi GTX 460 (160 W peak). I already have a 750 W PSU in my system that rarely even gets to a third of it's capacity during CPU rendering. I also have a 450 W auxiliary PSU which I was using to handle the dual Radeon HD 7950s I had installed.

The 1070 would actually consume 10 W less than my 460 so I could conceivably run two of them for a total of 3800+ Cores.

You need to structure the movie as if it was a UV texture following the screen's UV's, if you get/make a UV template for each screen you will see what you have to resize/rotate to keep the video aligned to the screen aspect ratio, um, I do that kind of stuff using Motion, maybe Fusion Free would get you there :0

I am not sure that there are many who order ice coffee with Mango and Raspberry flavoring.  I did not drink it all last night but put it into the freezer for today.
