I'm getting to be quite a fan of Modo . . .  (and there's an Indie version on Steam)smiley

...yeah but the Steam version is optimised primarily towards modelling for game development.

I still  remember when it was primarily just a modelling programme, then it went multi feature and the price bloated. As I recall many years ago it was something like 880$ and there was this offer through Daz for a limited time where you could get it for half price. Now it's something like 1,800$ (though apparently on sale right now for 1,079$.

Actually the worst limitation is no scripting/plugins (oftentimes when you hit something you can't figure out, you find there's a script or plugin to do it, which you can't use). The "game development" limitation is 100k polys max and 4k textures, which isn't a big drag for me (generally it's only trees that go over 100k in the things I make, and I use Carrara or Xfrog for those)

I started a render when I left for work to come home to find that the computer restarted by itself.

Same thing happened to me overnight. I hate windows 10.

...that is part of why I used to have W7 only remind me of pending updates rather than auto updating. The other reason was so I could research updates before accepting/rejecting them (particularly important during the W10 free offer).

I now have updating completely disabled because of the new "rollup" policy that MS has implemented for W7/8.1 users staring this month which prevents us from singling out individual update files.

At least I can still choose to update or not my Mac. Mind you, Apple is not immune to screw-ups: their new OS, Sierra, won't even let me click an existing file to overwrite in a Save-As dialog (a real frustration when I'm making & updating 100s of material / prop etc icons from a layered Photoshop file!)

...well as of today, finally in the digital fast lane as we switched from standard cable to fibre optic service.  Definitely a yuuge improvement.  Now if things are slow, I will know it's not on my end. Found out they also use Norton so I don't need my own licence.

SCAYT spell check is working again though it seems to be having trouble remembering the language preference.

To my knowledge only FiOS claims to be all fiber.  They do not have Norton, they have the other one.  Fact is, the fiber stops at the house.  So, that extra 20 feet from the pole to the house makes that much difference?  I don't know.  I do like that the upstream speed is the same as the downstream speed.  Haven't fully checked that out yet, but it seems pretty fast here.

...not for me, I don't have 1,000$ to spare.  If I had that kind of money available it would be the 24 GB upgrade I need to do, a 250 GB SSD (so I can do a dual boot Linux/W7 system) and a GTX 1080.

if DS and carrara run on linux in 64bits with dual xeons, cool sayonara windows

    interesting
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star-Spangled_Banner
"My Country, 'Tis of Thee", whose melody is identical to "God Save the Queen",

    surprise
In a version hand-written by Francis Scott Key in 1840, the third line reads "Whose bright stars and broad stripes, through the clouds of the fight"

    Lyrics

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
    Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Little known fact, that I probably just made up... Francis Scott Key's original melody was intended for the electric guitar, which back then was know as the "Electroharpismatron" and was powered by lightning, as it was originally invented by Benjamin Franklin while he was experimenting with reanimating dead horses. Few people know that the version Jimmy Hendrix preformed was far closer to the original, than any other versions in between.

i start singin it, when i sing it  'Ain’t He Sweet' comes out okay,
then lyrics morph -  'sweet walks merrily down the street, brim pulled way down low',  then he bites the dust.
    started out a happy song

Ah yes... That was actually how Franklin used to sing it while he was playing it on his Electroharpismatron with his teeth... Actually it was Washington's old wooden teeth, which he was using as pick.

    Isn't history great?...

Nobody cares about it or learns from it, so you pretty much can make anything up and some idiot will believe it... Just turn on the TV, you'll see... Go ahead... I dare you.

    Its awesome.

ise havent had tv since they turned off the analog.  was best diet ever, less snacking lol

    vaccuum tubes, landfill fodder

    A wise decision indeed.

We didn't have a TV... All we had was an old Jack Daniels box with a hole cut out in the front... We filled it with rats and they acted out scenes from Gilligan's Island... And the rats weren't even in color, just grey and they kept forgetting their lines... And we like it that way too...

As the late, great snooker commentator Ted Lowe once famously said, "Steve is going for the bink ball, and for those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green..."

..the reason for the dual boot is to run Daz, Carrara and my other programmes in Windows offline and use Linux for online activities since I completely disabled Windows updating because of the change in MS's update policy for W7/8.1.

I read somewhere in the forums here that someone was able to get the DIM to run in Linux since it is 32 bit.
