    10TB surprise

I'm unstuck!  Yea! smiley  Neighbor dug me mostly out yesterday.  I was then able to get my car moved a bit, and get the ice scraped from the windows and get my trunk open.  Snow shovel is now more accessible. blush

Went uptown before the next storm hit, got my prescriptions and lunch and some groceries and got the car parked at home again before the snow started.  indecision

    ...excellent.

Still treacherous here for old folks like us to walk.  Ended up taking the bus home last night from the market as it took me more than twice the normal time to walk to the there while trying to not slip and fall.

Unlike Wisconsin where I grew up, there are no laws here about clearing the walkway in front of your residence or business (there if it isn't done within something like 6 - 8 hours after a snowfall you can be fined by the city).  So all that nice light fluffy snow we got on Wednesday got trampled by feet and packed down by cars, thawed, then refroze turning into a 2" coating of thick very uneven ice in many areas.  The day it snowed, all it would have taken was a broom to clear the pavement as it was the dry light kind. Letting it get packed down and then freeze made the job of removal at least ten times harder. Even though it was sunny all day Thursday and part of yesterday, it did little to help melt the thick icy layer on the pavement and streets.

On my way to the market I saw some people trying to chip the ice away with whatever they had on hand (often making little progress and simply giving up). One fellow in front of his business was even using a large propane torch to melt it all away.

Just staying inside today as there has been little improvement and more snow in the forecast.

...what gets me is this is older generation memory (only 1333MHz). Originally a 24 GB kit cost nearly 800$ when I first built my workstation several years ago, then the price began to fall and really plummeted after  DDR4 quad channel memory came out to where it was at 108$ for a full 24 GB kit.ony a couple weeks ago. Now it is 158$.

...and I also need an OEM of W7 pro which is another 140$.

If you have the money, buy it.  When it is a certain distance from original release time, it starts to get harder to find...which starts putting the price up.

    Dana

...that's what I figured might be happening as it is most likely heading to "legacy" status as DDR4 has pretty much become the "norm".

Yeah, I need a nice "prezzie" this holiday season so I can finally get this upgrade done. I know W10 Home is only 80$ and supports up to 128 GB of memory but I'd be totally at the mercy of MS as to when updating occurs and cannot disable a lot of the useless feature bloat I don't want like can be done in the Pro Edition.  Besides, if I really wanted MS to take my system over and have the "Spawn of Bob" on my system, I would have got it for free during the "upgrade" offer.

Morning. A mob of bright-winged parrots struggling and failing to make any headway against a stiff westerley breeze, isn't there some song about walking backwards for Christmas? Flying backwards? Maybe am still dreaming :)

My bank debit card was hacked, and of course I have to lock the account just before traveling for Xmas.  My credit union account was hacked just before Thanksgiving. Aaaargh. Other than Daz, and automatic bill pay for utilities, I don't do much online.  Aaargh.

(*sigh*) It's snowing again.  It hasn't been cold enough, long enough, yet to freeze the Great Lakes so everytime snow comes from the West (which is almost always) we get "lake effect" snow.  Which is winter speak for "frozen downpour". frown

It's been warm enough the last couple of days that all that snow we had previously has turned into 10 inches of stuff the consistency of a gray 7/11 Icee.  When it does really freeze hard around here again we'll have an ice base till spring. sad

I was sweating late yesterday (75F) moving my potted plants inside.  The Real-Feel right now is 13F.  Typical weather change for Texas.

    ...same here.

75°?  Would love to have some of that here to finish melting off all the ice on the walkways. Sun can't seem to do it alone when the temp is still hovering around freezing and the angle is low to where a lot of areas are in shadow all day.

Talking of melting ice.   I discovered a rather strange thing.  It is apparently against european law to use salt to clear the weeds from the patio, because salt is not a recognised weed killer.   However it is permissable to use salt to melt of the ice on the patio, so it isn't slippy.    So if anyone asks I am melting the ice,  OK.

Hmmm... why is "goal" pronounced "go'-al", and "gaol" pronounced "jay'-al"? surprise  I find the word "jail" (jay'-il) quite satisfactory
