I'm testing a new plugin introducing micro displacement in Carrara.

I decided to do a little more with a test image to produce a render.

This is V4 with Francesca preset and a home made displacement and colour map using the excellent Skin Overlay Merchant Resource for V4 and M4 Skin Sets

    Here it is:

    Old V4

I've made an extensive use of plugin for this render:

    • The one I'm testing (obviously wink)
    • LightX from Alberto : Dome light (personnal) to simulate GI
    • Light Mangler from Digital Carver to use SSS maps (a big thank you to @Jonstark for the guidance
    • GMIC for post render effect

It does. In the other hand, as far as I know, Octane already has micro displacement.

Wow, this looks awesome, Philemo!  It's weird, I was just thinking a couple of days ago that I wish displacement had smaller and easier to control values.  I'm assuming (by the name and example) that your new plugin addresses this?  If so, it will give those older characters new life.  Err, old life.  You know what I mean. :)

final shot, no raytracing light through transparency filter to avoid unwanted translucency issues

What an effort!  Amazing and clever stuff.  But girl, you need an editor. :)  I think that it would have been more impactful if it was about 8 minutes total.

    The ending was perfect.yes

Magaremoto, looking great as usual!  If I ever fully commit to ultrarealism in characters, I will probably bug you to death with lighting and shader questions. :)

I've made some test. You can see side by side renders with and without micro displacement in both Carrara and Octane (left is without, rigth is with displacement).

In the first set, difference is there but subtle. In the second, it's quite obvious.

The only drawback for Octane is that the mesh compilation for Octane takes some time. Better be patient wink

Philemo, how is your micro displacement different from Eric's Anything Grooves?

in the meantime I exported them in DAE format.. the only one that would work for me and impoted them into Carrara... no morphs available though even though I ticked the option..
