I'm testing a new plugin introducing micro displacement in Carrara.
I decided to do a little more with a test image to produce a render.
This is V4 with Francesca preset and a home made displacement and colour map using the excellent Skin Overlay Merchant Resource for V4 and M4 Skin Sets
Here it is:
I've made an extensive use of plugin for this render:
now this looks promising for octane too if it works on displace in 3D view
It does. In the other hand, as far as I know, Octane already has micro displacement.
Wow, this looks awesome, Philemo! It's weird, I was just thinking a couple of days ago that I wish displacement had smaller and easier to control values. I'm assuming (by the name and example) that your new plugin addresses this? If so, it will give those older characters new life. Err, old life. You know what I mean. :)
replaced last post with my video as it is finally done and up
w.i.p. testing SSS and translucency with Indirect Lighting
no post
final shot, no raytracing light through transparency filter to avoid unwanted translucency issues
same lighting set, another ten24 model
no postwork
What an effort! Amazing and clever stuff. But girl, you need an editor. :) I think that it would have been more impactful if it was about 8 minutes total.
The ending was perfect.
Magaremoto, looking great as usual! If I ever fully commit to ultrarealism in characters, I will probably bug you to death with lighting and shader questions. :)
it was edited
it would have taken an hour otherwise
I overdid some stuff badly
thanks UB,
carrara, daz studio, octane, luxcore...ultrarealism can be achieved easily within daz universe :)
another shot with same lighting rig
hopefully wanna persuade someone to give carrara a chance or a try
provia filter in post
I've made some test. You can see side by side renders with and without micro displacement in both Carrara and Octane (left is without, rigth is with displacement).
In the first set, difference is there but subtle. In the second, it's quite obvious.
The only drawback for Octane is that the mesh compilation for Octane takes some time. Better be patient

Test 2 Carrara
Test 2 Octane
Test 3 Carrara
Test 2 Octane
I gotta say it again. Looks awesome to me, Philemo!
+1 on that... awesome!
Love the critters - hope they escaped....
Make that +2 and triple the awesome !!!
make that quadruplo times π to the ∞ :)
the next product I will purchase from the Daz Store when it comes out is this!
Hope it works in Carrara..
oh well... the bug crashes Carrara!
maybe its a bug
need to check the duf in notepad I guess for the rigid nodes and typos
Misty the one to guide you there, I never could fix Krampus or Blind Demon
Philemo, how is your micro displacement different from Eric's Anything Grooves?
lol
yep... but I have no idea what to look for ..... help @mistara
in the meantime I exported them in DAE format.. the only one that would work for me and impoted them into Carrara... no morphs available though even though I ticked the option..
Il stop highjacking this thread and have created a dedicated one
i tried not to laugh
Stezza, you could model one just as better than that one
lol.. not thinking so ...
Moon Buggy
what an inimtable style you have Stezza ;)
here's
Old video I made . Everything modelled in anim8or or Carrara then rigged in Carrara and with added animation clips from Carnegie
