Which files did you download Jimmy, Creative Suite of just CS2?

I downloaded the Creative Suite CS2. I haven't done much with it yet, but it seems to work OK. I just bought PSE11 a couple of months ago, and I am well pleased with it too.Thx Jimmy...I love me PSE6 and know it inside out but I need more than it can give. This gives me the chance to use CS2 for a while before I get CS6 if needed at all. :)

Look in the installation (Program Files\Adobe\...) for documentation in PDF or HTML format. If lucky it might be there. If unlucky then it was either a link to an online document that they no longer support, or it was simply not included in the free download.

Good news is that you can still find documentaiton like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Premiere-authors-Greenberg-published-Paperback/dp/B00A38KUWM/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358092075&sr=1-7&keywords=Adobe+Premiere+Pro+2+Bible
    available new: for $$$

    or this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-Classroom-Book/dp/0321385519/ref=dp_ob_title_bk
    for only $

If these products do work, free and legal it's very cool of Adobe to do this. However, I had minor trouble with PhotoshopCS2 on Vista and even more trouble with it on Win7. Perhaps my trouble was using it with various versions of other old and older Adobe products (Premier6, Acrobat7, GoLive6, EncoreDVD1.5, AfterEffect5.5, LiveMotion1.0) that didn't play well together in the modern OS. IllustratorCS2 on Vista would disable the "Aero" desktop feature and sometimes Photoshop would get stuck in an inconvenient mode that required restarting the program to clear. I eventually relegated my older Adobe products to WinXP where they play very happily. My newer products like PhotoshopCS5 and IllustratorCS5 and DreamweaverCS4 work well together on Win7. Haven't tried them on Win8 yet though.

I'm grabbing these free versions of things like Audition, and PremierPro just on the off chance that I find them useful.

Thing is though that they are already out of the loop for upgrade pricing. Might be nice to have them but if we want to move up to a modern version we'll still have to pay full price.

Is anyone else waiting for a catch!?

I'm only posting so I can get a reply notification if there is one. I'll download it, but I won't install it till I'm sure there isn't one.

    We'll see...

I downloaded only Photoshop CS2 (not worth it to me to install the whole suite just in case there are some extras in it for PS). Installs and works fine on my Win7-64bit.

what is the difference between Photoshop CS2 and Creative Suite 2? I did go ahead and d/l the cs2 version but maybe only need the photoshop version? I have never tried PS before but has been on my list of wants for awhile

Well, curiosity and boredom got the better of me, and, I downloaded and installed it. It’s there, it’s in and it works. It even accepted my custom actions that I’ve had set up in every version of PhotoShop I’ve ever had.

    Happy days!

Now, will the current 3D bridge to PhotoShop for DS 4.5 work with it!?

    CHEERS!

    EDIT:

    Short answer: No!

    Ah well.....

Good question. You'll have to let us know. That version of PS may be to old for the current bridge to work.

Right. And like I say, the clock is ticking. It's too old to qualify for an upgrade, so if people who get to depend on it want to go on using Adobe software after this gets outgrown by their hardware they will need to actually buy a commercial copy.

You can get the current versions of Adobe software for about a third the price if you qualify for the academic versions. Those are no longer crippleware. They are the full versions, and they upgrade to the full versions (for the standard upgrade price). All you need is to be able to prove you're enrolled in a qualifying school (pretty much any acredited school -- mine is the local Jr College) and you only need to be signed up for one class to do that. *Any* class. Even just an exercise class.

Not exactly correct. When I was in college, I wanted to get the academic version and they told me that my school had to be on their special llist of approved schools.

Also seems to work only for schools in the US. If you teach elsewhere, in another non-approved school, or overseas, sorry, no academic version for you. I asked 2 years ago and that was their answer.

hence why I never bought it. :(

Quite right. I don't know how it works outside of the U.S.

But the situations have changed over the years. Back when I first started using a computer, the academic versions were crippleware and not good for upgrades. There may have been more stringent limitations on the schools as well (probably were). But now almost any public school qualifies, and probably the majority of private ones. There is a number to the education sales -- or you could just ask to speak to one -- on the Adobe site.

After all, they *want* to get new users. They're willing to cut a deal on the entry price to do it.

And now, some of that even has reached down to high school and in some cases with some software...grade school. And for some software the discounts are more than 'amazing'...

The 3D Bridge didn't come into existence until CS3, and I guess Adobe still considers that version viable.

My son's school has programs where they use Photoshop, 3DSMax, and AutoCad. If he continues with his robotics club he will receive 3DSMax for free his senior year.

Till now, I'd been using Photoshop 7, it had all the functions I needed and worked perfectly. It ran in Windows 8 too, something which Vue 10 won't do!

I'd always fancied a newer version and now, thanks to you guys I have one. It's free, it works. Ok, yeah, being compatible with the current 3D Bridge to PhotoShop for DS4.5 would have been nice, but, hey, think of everything else you get for free.

If you have an older version of PS and this is newer then go for it, before Adobe change their minds. If only the makers of ZBrush would do something similar...

We've had CS, CS2, CS5 and now CS6. CS2 to CS5 cost us a small fortune to upgrade.

I have been quite happy with my older versions of PS. Had 5.5 and upgraded to 7. The only reason I would even think about running this version is because I would then be able to use Ron's newer brushes, as he no longer has PS 7 support for his brushes.

    Yeah, same here,

The main reason I got 7 was that it had 'save for web' as I was wanting to get into web design at the time. I tend to use it mainly for postwork on renders now.

My problem with PhotoshopCS2 on Vista and Win7 was that the cursor would get into a funky mode indicating that some tool other than the one I wanted was active and I couldn't change tools. Had to restart the application or I think in some cases had to delete the Adobe personal settings file. Didn't happen a lot but did happen enough, and without warning, that it became a real thorn in my side. That's what really prompted me to finally upgrade to PhotoshopCS5 before I lost out on the upgrade cycle. Haven't had that problem since then.

Although I repeat that my problem may have been related to the fact that I had a whole slew of Adobe products of different ages installed on the machine at that time. It could have been boogered interactions of files, libraries, and Registry settings. But I think at one time I had tested PhotoshopCS2 on a virgin installation of Vista and still had the problem now and then. Just say'n.

I was just thinking the same thing. I have been using Gimp for so long now it would be weird to go back and relearn Photoshop.
I have CS2 now just in case but yeah I don't know if I'll go back to PS

    Pretty much the same here.

I was hoping to be able to alter brush angle in CS2 but, no, that must have come later (not talking about dynamics).

The only other thing of use better than PS7 besides being able to use more brushes is the font drop down now has a visual cue as to what the font looks like. Though it's only the word 'sample' and almost too tiny to read.

Oh, and a 'smart sharpen' which seems to work very well.

I have a handful of actions, tons of brushes, and layer styles but no plugins to speak of. I gave up on PS plugins years ago.

I'm sure I'll find other little 'goodies' as I use it more. Hopefully, anyway.

See below, brush angle [rotation] in CS2 is under Brush Tip Shape.
