I've only had 2 issues with Paypal, one took 5 days to resolve, the other 2 weeks and several nasty letters. No problems in the past 2 years, though.

Urgh, wish I were at home, writing and rendering. Back to pricing new laptops, since I'm having to move and sell most of my stuff I've dropped buying another guitar and can use that budget for an i7 (once I settle someplace permanent). Maybe a Toshiba or Asus.

Seems questionable to me. I'd have to see a lot more about it, and see solid, thumbs-up reviews by major economic and financial institutions before trusting it.

Now that's a Thunderbird! Anybody notice that Ford has a problem keeping small cars small? The T-Bird got larger and larger until it was considered a luxury vehicle. they did the same thing to the Mercury Cougar. Even the Mustang suffered the same thing, but it didn't get too out of hand. I do like the look of the new Mustang. I'm not a Ford person, though. If I were rich, I might get a Mustang. But for now I stick with my Toyotas.

Ah, looks like a classic fastback! I still see one around now and then, but up here in New England, cars don't last quite as long unless they're garaged and well cared for, and kept off the streets in the winter.

...I'd go with Toshiba. Notebooks are their only computer product line.

My Satellite is now 6 years old (as of last December) and the only issues I had (outside of not enough memory for rendering because it's a 32 bit machine) was the original HD dying a couple years ago and the battery is pretty much toast. They're fairly rugged, especially the Techra line (had one that was eight years which unfortunately fell victim to a glass of Fume Blanc that was accidentally spilled on it near the fan vent).

'plaints - i need a bigger kitchen. bigggger with vent thingees, a kitchen island, one of those smooth-top ovens with 6 heater spots.

No arguments there. I'd love to stay home and write and render all day, but.. bills.

    ...I'll second that.

The one big "toy" I'd like would be a professional chef's kitchen.

6 burner gas range island with grill
    Gas oven (main)
    Convection oven
    Wood fired oven
    Polished granite topped counters.
    Commercial grade fridge/freezer (maybe even a walk-in)
    Commercial grade dishwasher
All stainless steel and cast Iron cookware
Professional grade tools (knives, utensils, gadgets, etc)

...and a place to put my trusty old MixMaster.

We have a nice 5 burner gas range. It has two quick boil burners, one really powerful. And the center burner is a long one. The grate can be swapped out for a griddle (grates and griddle are cast iron). Or you can put a long pan or baking dish on it. The oven has convection assist heating (it has quick preheat and quick bake options), digital controls, center rack is connected to the door so it pulls out automatically when you open the door, and pushes in when you close it. One rack has a section that can pop off if you have a high roasting pan or something. There is a lower drawer that is a warming and actual separate oven, with its own control. So you can bake things at two different temperatures. Even the burner knobs are high end...they're heavy, they aren't plastic, they're metal. I was amazed when I pulled one off and felt how heavy they are. When the inspector came to check out the connections he said it was the nicest one he'd seen in quite a while. We got it two years ago when the oven in the old one died...it wouldn't ignite. Two burners on the top wouldn't ignite. We were told it would cost almost as much as a new one to get it repaired, and then the other two top burners might have died after that. It was expensive, but it's worth it. It's a Frigidaire, special edition available only at Lowe's. The extra for the special edition model is the glass window...some windows get this rainbow effect after a year or so of use, from heating and cooling and heating and cooling...this one doesn't, or if it does, it doesn't show. Stainless with black ceramic top. We love it. Of course, the white hood looked stupid and cheap above it, so we had to buy a nice stainless one to match it. It, too, is really nice. A lot of money was spent when we really couldn't afford it, but we had no choice on the range. At least it's an upgrade.

This is it except for the glass, which is tinted. You can see inside fine when you turn the light on. And the griddle seems to be an option that wasn't in the non-Lowe's version. It seems Lowe's no longer sells this model. Maybe there's a newer one. Models are changing all the time.

Tell me about it. And yet, I can't get hired. I've been out of work for quite a while now. Different issues have held me up, kept me down, jerked me around. And depression has hindered my concentration and ability to pick up new stuff quickly like I used to. My area of expertise has become a dinosaur, so I have to learn new stuff. It isn't working out well. Been using my website as a tool to learn new things, while at the same time hoping that I can make money with it...if I could only get it finished.

Tired of working for someone else and then being laid off, while they hang on to their millions as they close the company, but I lose all my savings and pile up debt.

...in a month or so may find myself in the same position as the client who's account I handle will no longer be with out company.

Having to find a new job while pushing 60 is not something I am looking forward to. They say there are laws against age discrimination, but there are so many loopholes to skirt them.

...c'mon Megabucks, If I ever needed those numbers to fall just right for me, it's now.

I understand...I turn 59 tomorrow. Yes, the laws are against it...but trying to prove age discrimination is very difficult, sometimes impossible.

Asus is really good, though, and they make motherboards. I don't know if Toshiba makes their motherboards or uses another maker. I've heard that the Toshibas aren't so great anymore. But that was a few years ago...it may have changed again.

Is early days. What's interesting is it has the potential to solve one of the problems posed by Ted Nelson, how do we pay for stuff over a network without making third parties stinking rich taxing us?, in Computer Lib years ago

So I'll come and do your dishes
While I hand out birthday wishes!

    I'm sitting and I'm thinking
That I really should be drinking
    I'm a dull unhappy slob
    With a boring mundane job
But I never shed a tear
Since I get wiped out on beer!

    I'm thinking as I'm sitting
That perhaps my life is fitting
On more fun I'll have to pass
I like sitting on my ass
I will try to make this clear
I fell best when filled with beer!

Now don't stare at me and frown
    I'm a slacker, not a clown
On the sofa with a can
It's just perfect for a man
    I'll be happy, never fear
When I've drunk a ton of beer!

    :-P %-P :P

i need a motivation to finish my kindle editions. the thought of making money from it isn't motivating, cuz i don't believe there will be any.

and i have no motivation to update my MCSE.

maybe i should try for a CCNA? it would be a lot of studying. i have subnetting octets down pat, but i never absorbed the supernetting concept. and nowadays, IPv6 is prolly part of the test.

and i still want to become proficient with php pages and mysql.

Oh, and Salvatore, Dana mostly hung out in Netjera's thread in the Members Only forum, while you were mostly in the KMWill Fan Club and Complaint threads. I think JasmineSkunk and I were the only ones who regularly went back and forth between the two groups.

I've also been a nearly constant fixture in the monthly Freebie Challenge (not the official contest, but the one overseen by music2u4u and hosted by a different person every month). I'm not an official or anything, I just like the folks (in general) and the atmosphere, and the challenge. I've entered a few, but not very recently.

Ah thanks bwaomega, feel a bit less silly for not recognizing.. :)
Oh yeah, the KMWill Fan Club, best place to be, we had some fun times, good to see lots of the old people still hanging around here.
